2020 TERM 3 WEEK 6

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe

Friday 28th August 2020

From the Principal

It’s hard to believe that we are already in Week 6 of Term 3.

We have had a busy term with lots of things happening across the school.

COVID-19 update

As information has been coming into school on advice for families and staff, letters will be sent home accordingly.

As all previous correspondence has indicated, any student who is unwell is to remain at home until they are completely symptom free.

If you need clarification, please call me at school and I can discuss.

Thank You Mr John!

This week is the last week that Mr John will be working at our school. He is moving to be closer to his family.

We thank Mr John for all of his work over the last 18 months across all of the classes.

Mr Beard and Miss Bec will be working as the teaching staff on the Koala class whilst Miss Tracey is on leave.

SASS Appreciation Week

This week we thank our SASS staff in a more formal capacity throughout the Department.

Our School Administration team, our General Assistant and our School Learning Support Officers all make up a valued part of our school.

Thanks team for helping the students every day!

Education Week

We celebrated Education Week a little more quietly this year with in-class activities while ‘Learning Together’ (the theme for this year’s event).

IEP Meetings

As part of our school, students have two formal meetings per year in regards to their educational, social, sensory and emotional goals.

Thank you to all of our families for your insights into the beautiful children that we have in our care at school.

The documentation is currently being reviewed before we send home.

60 Year Celebrations

How good do we look for 60!

On the 20th September this year, our school will be turning 60.

As we are unable to have a celebration like we had envisaged, there will be a photo book made over the next few months with historical information and pictures. More information will be sent home once this has been finalised.

The Fence

The fence will be completed over the next couple of weeks which is great news for our school.

Watch this space for some updated information.

Wombat Class

The Wombats have continued working on the development of their literacy and numeracy skills, mainly through play-based learning.

In Geography, the students are learning about places. They have particularly enjoyed a view of their homes on

Google Maps and Google Earth.

In Science, the children have been learning about the weather. Elmo off Sesame Street has been hard at work teaching us about the weather. Our Art and Craft lessons are an extension of our Science unit of work. The students are working on space with the help of Ms. Sue.

The integration of movement and dance at different stages of the school day has had a positive impact on students’ engagement in their learning.

Overall all the students have been working hard in different areas of learning. They deserve an applause for their effort.

Miss Esther and Sue

Koala Class

The Koala class have continued this term with some wonderful learning experiences. We have all been very interested to learn about the animals that live in the various habitats around the world. There have been some very colourful (chameleon), unusual (remora fish) and large

(blue whale) types of animals investigated.

The whole class are learning their times tables with the help of some very catchy songs. We have also been doing some very tricky number puzzles to help us with Maths.

Seems that we have some budding football stars coming up in the ranks.

The competition at recess and lunch has been really impressive. Great to see such commitment.

Thanks for letting me share your learning journey for the time that I have been able to be in the class. It’s been a pleasure.

Mr John, Lisa, Nat and Sharon

Goanna Class

The Goanna children and I would like to make a huge shout to our amazing SASS staff Tash, Mylissa and also Nat who has been helping us over the last few weeks. We couldn’t do it without you. Thank you so much for being kind, caring and patient as we learn and play.

Another thank you to the parents who came for the IEP meetings, it was great to catch up and work on the children’s new goals and to also share information and ideas.

As always, the Goannas have been hard at work. We have been reading the Gruffalo in English. All the children enjoy this story and request it daily.

This book has also been the focus of our art and craft lessons. We are reproducing the story on our back wall.

In geography, our focus is on Places particularly Australian and Aboriginal culture and sacred places.
