In November 2012, Hilton Frankfurt Airport and Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt Airport held a very special event where children from Die Arche e.V in Frankfurt were invited to the hotels to bake and decorate cookies. The children had a fantastic time as they created over 4,000 cookies which were then sold to hotel guests and neighbours raise money for Arche e.V so that they could take the children on a school trip in 2013.

Following this successful event, both hotels decided to use Easter as a great opportunity to invite the children from Die Arche e.V to the hotels again, but this time, to decorate easter eggs.

The afternoon of egg painting began with a tasty lunch for all the children, followed by colouring and decorating over 200 Easter eggs in the Team Member restaurant. All of the children’s beautifully decorated eggs

became part of both hotels’ easter decorations and will also be available for guests to purchase. All of the funds raised from the eggs will go directly to Die Arche e.V, which helps vulnerable young people.

In addition to the eggs, further Easter sweets and treats are also on sale in the lobby of Hilton Frankfurt Airport, with a share of the profi ts also going to the charity.

Die Arche e.V is a charity that aims to get disadvantaged children off the streets by providing them with meaningful activities that run alongside their regular schooling programme. From providing free, healthy and hot meals to the children, to assisting them with their schoolwork, Die Arche is there to support, encourage and inspire children in many different ways. A wide range of free time activities including sports and music are also provided and, above all, young people get plenty of much needed encouragement and affi rmation from staff at Die Arche e.V in order to

build their confi dence and sense of self-worth.

In true Easter spirit, Hilton Frankfurt Airport has also made a giant Easter bunny chocolate egg that is over 2.5 meters in height to decorate the lobby.

These are just a few ways in which Hilton Worldwide Hotels at Frankfurt Airport aim to contribute to the wellbeing of underprivileged young people. Keep up the good work!

SCBD partnership updateThe latest ‘Small Change, Big Difference’ campaign, which ran from October-December 2012 raised an amazing £148,000 (€177,600), which will make a huge difference to the lives of young people. The campaign invites guests staying at Hilton Worldwide hotels to add an optional £1 onto their room bill during their stay. Since its inception in 2004, the campaign has already raised over £1.1 million (€1.32 million) for children’s charities.

25 different charity partners benefi tted from the latest campaign, including Radda Barnen (Save the Children) Sweden, Stichting Papageno in the Netherlands, La Colonna - Associazione Lesioni Spinali ONLUS in Italy, The Smile of the Child in Greece, Debra Austria in Austria, Association Reves and Les P’tits Cracks in France, Inspire in Malta and Tereza Maxova Foundation in the Czech Republic. In the UK, funds have been collected for the HCF central grant fund, with a third going to local causes nominated by the hotels. For example, from the money raised at Hilton Cardiff, Hilton London Metropole and Hilton Birmingham Metropole, a grant of £7,110 was made to Carers Trust (see Claire’s story on page 22).

Die Arche – supporting children throughout Germany

Child poverty exists in Germany and Die Arche is fi ghting against it. Die Arche was founded in Berlin in 1995. Since then, the charity has expanded to include ten centres across Germany, which reach over 2,000 children and young people. The opening of further centres is in the works because the need and demand is enormous. The work of Die Arche relies 100% by donations and was chosen as the national partner for Small Change Big Difference in Germany for the 2012 campaign, which raised €11,451.67 from 11 of the hotels in just three months.

The organisation offers through its centres the chance for children in need to get a free daily nutritious and warm meal, get help with homework, engage in purposeful leisure activities including sports and music and, above all, make sure they receive lots of attention. Children need confi rmation so they can grow their self-confi dence. Their sense of importance needs to be reinforced with lots of love. Many children don’t experience this reinforcement at home.

The founder and director of Die Arche, Bern Siggelkow, was awarded the highest local and national honours for this endeavour. “Die Arche” was also awarded with the “Carl von Ossietzky Medaille der Internationalen Liga

für Menschenrechte“ and the “Hanse-Merkur-Preis für Kinderschutz” awards.

An ongoing partnership

On 8 November 2011, the 15th Die Arche e.V location opened its doors to children in Meissen near Dresden. From this date, Hilton Dresden has been partners with this institution and its children. Supporting the children and their teachers by providing kitchen equipment as well as bedspreads and pillows which were no longer used by the hotel, Arche Meissen was able to create a relaxing room for the children.

As a part of the Global Week of Service in November 2012, Hilton Dresden organised a cooking event at Arche Meissen to provide the children with healthy menu choices and to learn more about local products and healthy meals. Together with the children and teachers they prepared a three-course-menu and arranged a quiz about optimal nutrition.

Funder of the year 2013Hilton in the Community Foundation is delighted to have been awarded the 2013 Funder of the Year Award at the Charity Staff and Volunteers Awards 2013.

The awards, which celebrate outstanding achievements and dedication made by charity staff and volunteers, commended the Foundation not only for their local giving, but honoured Deputy Chairman of the Trustees, Dame Maureen Thomas DBE. Dame Maureen was recognised for her commitment, dedication and leadership since becoming a Founder Trustee of the charity in 2000. Dame Maureen has not only raised signifi cant funds for the Foundation by leading key events, but she also chairs the Grants Committee, leading a programme of effective local grant giving.

As a grant giver, Hilton in the Community Foundation is dedicated to creating brighter futures for young people. HCF funds a wide variety of projects which provide and facilitate access to education, provide tools and opportunities through equipment, facilities and training or relieve suffering, improve treatment and wellbeing. By reaching out to smaller, local organisations across Europe, the Foundation engages the network of hotels to identify local youth causes that need help. Through this local giving model we can achieve a powerful impact for social good.

Committed to its role as a grant giver, HCF visited one of its 2012 grantees, Drake Music on 25th March. The visit was to see the progress being made on a collaboration between six schools from three London boroughs, with a music rehearsal for children from the Good Shepherd RC School and Jack Tizard special school. The BBC Symphony Orchestra is partnering the project to assist with rehearsals and lead the fi nal performance in a few weeks time. The grant of £7,500, supported by fundraising from Hilton London Kensington, helped purchase instruments, IT and software to enable children with disabilities to play using switches and tablet technology. We wish all the children well for the fi nal performance!

Fred Sirieix, General Manager of Michelin-starred Galvin at Windows restaurant at the top of London Hilton on Park Lane, has been honoured with a special award. The Trustees of the Foundation wanted to commend Fred’s time and commitment to the Galvin’s Chance into-work programme. Fred is a driving force for the project, which since 2009 has helped at least 35 disadvantaged young people to secure paid employment in front-of-house roles, 60 young people to complete pre-employment training and nearly 200 young people to fi nd out about roles available in the industry.

Fred is an amazing fundraiser and active participant raising awareness for Galvin’s Chance. He is an enthusiastic runner (taking part in the annual Mayfair Park and Tower Race) and spearheaded the charity boxing event ‘Rumble in the Kitchen’ when he stepped into the ring against top chef Marcus Wareing.

The Award was presented by HCF’s Deputy Chairman and founder Trustee Dame Maureen Thomas on 25th March in London. She thanked Fred for his drive and commitment to the Foundation and its ethos, which is greatly valued and appreciated by

all the Trustees.

Helping at Whitechapel mission

Amanda Love, Colin Boom, Michelle Lezemore, Hayley Hyatt and Elizabeth Major from Hilton London Stansted Airport decided to help the community by volunteering at the Whitechapel Mission for homeless people. Using their skills from the hotel, the team started their shift at 6am by cooking a full English breakfast. With each person in charge of different roles in the kitchen, from serving food to cooking or preparing, it was easy for all involved to see how much homeless people depended on these meals, either for free or for 50p if they

could afford it. The team ended up serving approximately 150 breakfasts between 6 and 10am.

Elizabeth Major, Foundation Champion and PA to hotel Manager, said:

“The team thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the Mission and we are all booking up to go back again and help.”

For the second instalment of volunteering, Sarah Larter, Robert Watts, Jackie Carter, Kim Hester

and Janet Day headed over to the Whitechapel Mission to sort clothing donations. Firstly, the team had to check to see if the clothes were wearable and then divide and label them by size, then hang them so that they are ready for distribution to the Mission’s service users. Having the chance to interact and hear the many different stories that the homeless people had, made the team realise that the Mission provides a very important service to those who fi nd themselves struggling and in diffi cult circumstances, and are keen to volunteer there again.

Making the right connections

On 6th March, Janet McAteer and her fellow Blue Energy Committee members at Hilton Leeds City participated in a unique initiative to regenerate the area around the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, as well as offering valuable benefi ts to the young people in their local community.

Students of Hospitality at the David Young Community Academy were invited to participate in this initiative, held in conjunction with Canal Connections and Business in the Community.

Students spent the morning preparing food on a barge, which arrived at the hotel at lunchtime. Afterwards, they made up the bunk beds in the barge with linen, pillows, towels and toiletries (kindly provided by Hilton Leeds City) and their efforts were judged by Head Housekeeper, Jackie. The winner was awarded for her efforts with a goodie bag comprised of a few treats.

The students were then invited behind the scenes at the hotel and received a guided tour of some of the departments within the hotel, including several of the guest rooms and suites. After being treated to refreshments, the students returned to the Community Academy feeling ‘uplifted’, and having thoroughly enjoyed the day – as did the team at Hilton Leeds City!

In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, Hilton Milan decided to join forces with guests and Hilton in the Community Foundation while helping women in need.

Instead of giving the usual gifts that are on offer for Gold and Diamond HHonors members, Hilton Milan ordered small gifts from Farsi Prossimo, a nice token for all female guests staying at the hotel.

Farsi Prossimo is a project that helps young women, and their children, that have been mistreated in the past and aims to empower and prepare them for social integration after suffering from abuse through either prostitution, being a vulnerable refugee, coming from a disadvantaged background or at high risk from being marginalised in the community. The project provides shelter to the women and their children and aims to educate the women in a programme called Mama Food. The programme aims to equip the women with the skills that they need to fi nd careers where they will be fi nancially independent and provide a more hopeful future for their children.

By stocking these small gifts from Farsi Prossimo, prepared by Mama Food, €230 will now be paid to women that are in need, helping to provide the hope and promise of a better future for these mothers and their children.

Foundation Champion Jolanda Kappa said:

“By merging the forces of guest and Foundation initiatives we have been able to support a cooking workshop that helps young women and young people in need.”

Well done to Hilton Milan for coming up with an idea that embraces the Foundation and hotel activities and helps to provide a brighter future for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. Keep up the good work!

Firewalking for the fearless

Walking on fi re is a very brave thing to do for charity, but Area Finance Director, Gary Hughes, proved how fearless he is by doing it three times in one evening, on 23rd February.

With the support of colleagues, friends and family, Gary has been able to raise £1,650 so far, with the promise of more money to come.

On the night, approximately forty different people bravely walked on the burning embers of the fi re that were recorded as reaching a temperature of 617°C collectively raising more than £13,000 for Anna’s Challenges.

Anna’s Challenges is a charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for children with Cystic Fibrosis and support the children

and families affected by Cystic Fibrosis by helping them to buy the essential equipment that sufferers need.

Gary braved the embers for a second time after fi nding out that his children were upset because they were unable to see him through the crowds walking across the coals the fi rst time around. Braving the coals for a second time, only to be told at the end by his wife that she couldn’t get and good photos, he braved the coals for a third time. Gary said: “After my third walk across I felt I had completed all that was asked of me and can now cross fi re walking off my list, although someone at the charity was then talking about glass walking next …”

When asked about what it’s like walking on fi re, Gary said:

“To answer a few questions – yes they were hot, but you couldn’t feel it. Unless an ember gets stuck to your feet or between your toes, then there is not suffi cient time to transfer the heat. My feet are fi ne now, but I don’t think I’ll do it again, but I would defi nitely recommend the experience.”

A lot can happen in a month at Hilton

Top: Foundation Champions Caroline Lowe and James Tattershall with Trustees Dame Maureen Thomas and Billy Differ after winning Most Profitable Event Award. Left: A Team Member mentoring students. Right: The team ready for bingo to raise money for Comic Relief.

It has been a great month for Hilton London Heathrow Terminal 5, who kicked off a great month by winning the Most Profi table Event Award at the Champions Workshop at the beginning of the month. Foundation Champions, James Tattershall and Caroline Lowe came up with some more great ideas to help children and young people.

Then four Team Members at Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, volunteered to take part in the ‘Learning to Work’ mentoring programme. The programme took place at the local secondary school – Langley Academy. The aim of this programme is to provide assistance to young people in their fi nal year of secondary school with exam revision. The young people selected for this scheme are in need of support so that they can achieve their predicted grades. So far, six sessions have been held with the students on confi dence, motivation, pathways, interview skills, employability, revision, organisation and time management. The sessions are one hour per week and are focused around group activities followed by other tasks completed in smaller groups to really get the most out of learning for young people- a great way to help them to achieve their full potential.

In addition to this, to raise money for Comic Relief, the hotel’s fantastic Foundation Champions held two lunchtime bingo sessions. The lunchtime was fi lled with excitement and laughter as James, Sales Manager, called out the bingo numbers using rhyming slang. With a total of four games being held and great prizes including chocolates, a digital photo frame or afternoon tea, the team were able to raise £42 which will be added to the rest of the funds that Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 have been able to raise during other events. A big well done to Foundation Champions James, Rachel and Polly.

Teaming up with the Rainbow TreeHilton Royal Parc Soestduinen has, like last year, selected Regenboogboom (The Rainbow Tree) as their local charity for 2013. The charity inspires children who suffer from a trauma, illness or handicap to discover their own strength.

Whenever as a child you have to deal with a trauma, illness or handicap you can feel that it’s the most important and biggest thing in your life. At moments like these you will more easily forget that you have the strength to deal with the situation. The Rainbow Tree Foundation helps children remember who they are, the strength they have and helps them get back on track. With songs and story telling they help the young people fi nd a safe place where they can fi ght fears, pain and sadness.

Hilton Royal Parc Soestduinen set up several events to raise money for the charity, such as the annual cup cake event, and in September last year the a “Dam tot Dam loop” race took place in Amsterdam. Two teams of 10 team members joined this running event. Together they raised a stunning €2,103.40.

Photos:Main: All of the young people that attended Hilton Budapest for work experience.

Far left: Hilton Budapest also organised learning sessions for young people.

Left: The young people received training in both tourism and hospitalitly.

Hilton Budapest’s Blue Energy team and voluntary Team Members gave Buda Castle Elementary School 7th and 8th grade students (age 13 - 14) the opportunity to study a “cluster” of jobs in the hospitality and tourism industry fi rst hand. To offer a brighter future for those who show specifi c interest in catering and tourism, the hotel also provided professional mentoring.

On 28th February almost 40 students got the chance to meet professional Team Members from the following departments: Front Offi ce (Béla Varga), Business and Meeting Center (Judit Kovácsovics), Housekeeping (Marika Polónyi), ICON restaurant, Kitchen & Confectionary (Annamari Fonó). Béla, Judit, Marika and Annamari explained the different roles to the young people including Bell man, Receptionist, Maid, Chef, Pastry Chef and Waiter. For many of the young people participating, it was their fi rst time seeing how a big hotel is run.

The children were keen to explore the “back stage” areas of the hotel, particularly the kitchen, restaurant and the confectionary areas. At the end of the day, 8th grade student Bence said:

“I think it was interesting that we got to see different jobs and how the staff enjoy their work. It was really nice of the Hilton Budapest team to take time to show us all of the different roles within the hotel. It’s obviously not something everyone gets to do.”

Organising career orientation classes is the perfect opportunity to be involved in the community and to teach core life skills that are important for young people regardless of their school level. Career days teach children the importance of good teamwork, communication, responsibility, professional appearance and competency in the workplace.

Collecting for brighter futures

On 6 March, Michelle Geeling from Hilton Birmingham Bromsgrove made a cheque presentation to their long-term charity partner, the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The cheque represented the fi nal instalment of the funds the hotel raised through Around the World in a Day 2012 – an impressive £2,581.31.

This money was used to buy teaching aids for children who will undergo surgery to remove an eye due to a rare form of cancer called Retinoblastoma. Children and their parents use these heads to practice inserting and removing prosthetic eyes so the whole family is prepared for life after surgery. Previous to the hotel’s donation, the department had a limited number of teaching aids available, all of which were male – which girls found very upsetting. Now, the hospital has been able to order more teaching aids to benefi t its young patients, including female heads for the fi rst time.

In March, Team Members from Hilton Avisford Park headed over to their local Tesco supermarket to take cash collections for Hilton in the Community Foundation and promote Around the World in a Day. The team managed to raise just over £100. Thank you!

Hilton ParkSA and Conrad Istanbul recently joined forces to help their local community. Both hotels had unused old equipment which had either expired or were no longer in line with Hilton’s brand standards. As a result, both hotels had 20 PCs, 30 meeting tables and 17 chairs. The hotels decided to put them to good use instead of just selling them at a low price.

The hotels contacted TOÇEV, one of their local charity partners, and asked them to help fi nd a school that did not have a computer lab. They found Munir Nurettin Selcuk Elementary School, located in the suburbs in Istanbul, which has over 2,000 students coming from families with low income. The school had a computer laboratory, but the computers were over 13 years old.

The hotels immediately took action and arranged for the computers and furniture to be donated to the school, with the Cluster IT team setting up the new computer lab for the school. A week later the school’s very grateful principal invited the team to the opening of the computer lab.

What a fantastic initiative.

Triathlon to combat hungerCongratulations to Christian Hoehn, Director of Operations at Hilton Abu Dhabi for completing his third Abu Dhabi International Triathlon.

The triathlon included a 750 meter swim, 55 kilometre cycle and a 5 kilometre run. If that’s not challenging enough, the triathlon takes place in the desert with temperature topping 35 degrees.

Christian completed the race in 5th place in his age group, and came 45th place overall out of 788 other participants, which is a wonderful achievement.

Christian raised $2,629.82 for HCF and The Hunger Project, which is headed by a previous Hilton employee, Paul Teichmann. The Hunger Project is committed to the sustainable end of global hunger.

When asked about how it felt when participating in the event, Christian said: “Racing in the desert is always very challenging because the temperatures reach 35+ degrees in March, so it isn’t made very easy for us. However, with good preparation and training I would like to recommend this race to all sporty Team Members in the Hilton family who are always welcome to Abu Dhabi. See you next year again at the starting line.”

Giving young people a chances a follow up to the Global Week of Service 2012, Hilton Prague is working very closely with the Project Chance Association. Founded more than ten years ago by László Sümegh, who has become an icon for helping abandoned children and adolescents living on the streets in the Czech Republic, the association‘s mission is to offer help not only for children living on the streets but also to help these children fi nd alternative education, work and social therapy, reintegrating them into scoiety.

In March 2013, Hilton Prague managed to offer working positions to three young men who had a very diffi cult family life and unfortunately as a result had ended up living on the street. The positions were offered thanks to a close cooperation with an outsorced company operating the Hilton Prague Stewarding department. In the beginning, the Project Chance was helping the three young men through social therapy to help them fi nd a new meaning of their life. Now, thanks to the Hilton Prague‘s support, Robin, Mario and Karel are able to live meaningful and independent lives.

We wish them all the best in their future and hope that they keep up the hard work while enjoying the benefi ts and freedom that their new independent lives give them.

Helping visually impaired children to learnOn March 7th, Team Members from Hilton Strasbourg visited the Louis Braille Centre to deliver some joy to the charity. After successful fundraising from Hilton Strasbourg in 2012, some Team Members were delighted to handover a cheque for €9,000 to Association “Regards d’Enfants” for the Louis Braille Centre which would enable the organisation to purchase a state of the art “IRIS”, a Braille computer, made specifi cally for young people with visual impairments.

It was a wonderful moment for all involved, especially the children and their teachers as the new equipment will now provide the centre with alternative ways to educate the children and young people that use the centre.

Hilton Budapest was able to grant another young person’s wish through Csodalámpa (Magic Lamp). Csodalámpa grants wishes of young people suffering from life threatening illnesses and living in a low-income household.

With additional help from their corporate partner, Horváth and Partners DLA Pipers Law Offi ce, the hotel was able to host a charity cooking event to help raise some funds in order to purchase a new laptop for a poorly and disadvantaged young person.

A busy month for Hilton Budapest

When branding guidelines changed at Hilton Budapest, the hotel was left with lots of outdated pens and notepads that were no longer suitable for the hotel. Team Members decided to donate them to a good cause instead of throwing them away.

Every year there is a race from Budapest to Bissau in Africa, with some drivers continuing their journey to Dakar to deliver donations to small villages in need. The Team Members decided that they should donate the pens and notepads to a school in Dakar and gave the pens and notepads to one of the drivers that intended to carry out charity work in Dakar so that they could be used by children in schools.

The children and teachers were very grateful for the helpful donation.

Recycling and donating to schools

Every minute, every day, there is somebody in hospital in need of blood, so the Blue Energy Team at Hilton Budapest arranged for a blood giving day. More than 40 Team Members from Hilton gave blood with the Hungarian Red Cross meaning that up to 120 lives can be saved.

Collecting toys for disadvantaged children Not wanting to lose momentum on all of the wonderful things that Hilton Budapest has been doing this month to help children and young people, the Team Member party was seen as another great opportunity to help children in the local community.

Team Members attending the party all donated different toys and helpful bits and bobs that would be very useful for childcare. The collection was so successful that they were able to collect 78 shoe boxes of toys that could be donated to one of the poorest nurseries in Budapest.

Hilton Cardiff has been unstoppable this month in its drive helping local children and young people in need.

Following a very successful Foundation Ball in 2012, where over £22,845 was raised for HCF and Ty Hafan, Marie Fagan and Rachel Cornelius visited Ty Hafan to present them with a cheque for £10,722.90. Ty Hafan is a children’s hospice that offers comfort, care and support to life limited children, young people and their families.

But the generosity didn’t stop there. Later on in the month, Team Members from the hotel visited Kidney Wales in order to handover a cheque for £351.60 which had been raised by Tom Williams who had competed in the Cardiff 10K run in 2012.

To round off the month, Team Members from the hotel handed over another cheque or £601.37 to LATCH. The money for LATCH would be used to purchase Maclaren Major buggies specially designed for children who develop additional needs during treatment and for additional diversionary equipment on the wards and keep the children occupied whilst undergoing treatment.

LATCH supports the children and their families who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales, whose catchment area stretches from Chepstow in the South to Aberwystyth in the North. Around 70 new cases are diagnosed every year, so the donation was gratefully received by the team at LATCH. The money had been raised by Hilton Cardiff from their 2012 Around the World in a Day event. They hope to raise even more this year.

Caring for young carersCaring is an emotionally and physically draining role, which often seriously damages young carers’ education, health and social lives. Online support is therefore vital as it helps young carers to improve the balance between caring and their own well-being, so they can reach their full potential. Following the Small Change Big Difference campaign 2012, HCF supported the Carer’s Trust with a grant of £7,110 to enable an online support worker to give one-to-one emotional and practical advice to young carers – children as young as 5 who care unpaid for family or friends – via the Carers Trust’s dedicated website www.youngcarers.net (YCNet).

Case study: Claire, 16Claire is a young carer. Her mum works long hours so from a very young age Claire has had to help look after her father, Mike, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, and whom she loves very much. He needs her help with everything from making his dinner to helping him use the toilet. Because of the time this took and the physical and emotional stress she was under, Claire was unable to make friends or do her homework, and her school-life really suffered.

Thankfully, three years ago she found Carers Trust’s young carers online support team. They were able to provide her with one-to-one emotional and practical support, and the online forum gave her the chance to make friends with other young people in the same situation. This enabled her to build her confi dence enough to take the important step of attending college, and since then she has made great progress. She’s now 16 and recently emailed the online support team to thank them for the support they gave her:

“Not sure if you guys remember me but I wanted to send an email to say thank you for everything YCNet has done for me (and is now doing for my little brother and sister, who are now members!).

When I look back at how I was when I joined the boards, I was about 13 and I was shy, lacking confi dence, and felt like I was the only person in the world going through what I was going through. I felt totally alone as a young carer, and to suddenly be in an environment where people were friendly, supportive and know what it’s like to be a young carer was fantastic, I can’t describe what a great feeling that was.

Fast forward three years and I’m doing well at college and hoping to eventually work with young carers and bereaved young people in a drama setting. I’ve got a great group of friends and I’m so confi dent and happy. I know that I am not the only person who’s been a young carer, and that there are people I can speak to if it gets me down - but YCNet also helped me to overcome one of my biggest fears; which was leaving home to go to college and not being able to be half an hour away from my family at the very most if they needed me. I just wanted to say I’m so grateful to everyone on YCNet, especially the support chat workers who are just amazing. Thank you very, very much.”

Thea Stein, Chief Executive of Carers Trust, said: “Our thanks go to the Hilton in the Community Foundation and all the hotel staff and guests for this grant, which will ensure the continuity of our online support for young carers. By helping them to balance their education and caring role, this support will give many young people like Claire a much better chance to reach their potential”

Note: due to the sensitive nature of our work with young carers, the names and some of the details of this case study have been changed, and the photo is representative.
