In France, we often see this type of armchair with silk damask upholstery, the legs painted white, while in Great Britain a slightly sturdier model carried out in mahogany and often with a leather or horsehair upholstery, became all the rage as a ‘library chair’. The version of Heritage Fauteuils has straight legs, but is also available with turned legs. Queen Charlotte (1744-1818) was the spouse of King George III. She is known for her preference for simple furniture such as this armchair.
