At the time of Emperor Napoléon III (1808-1873; term of office 1851-1870), this type of fauteuils became popular in France. In several example books this model is referred to as ‘fauteuil anglais’, which indicates the great influence of the British furniture industry in nineteenth century France.

The Napoléon is a sleek, elegant armchair with a relatively high backrest. Unlike its British counterparts from the same era, the Napoléon is not excessively filled up. The beautiful lines of the chair are therefore easily recognizable.
