Dear residents and families, The Dynseo Summer Olympics are in full swing and we hope you are all enjoying the fun! This yearly event utilizes our state-of-the-art brain training software, called Dynseo. This software has been shown to help seniors improve memory, focus and concentration, maintain their reflexes, and socialize with others. Plus, it’s a lot of fun! The contest started on June 25 and goes until July 6. Every weekday, residents receive a set of 32 questions – 16 easy and 16 difficult – on general culture topics, which they answer as a team on a big screen. Not only are our residents competing against other Heritage communities, but they’re also battling other senior communities worldwide! The winning teams will receive a subscription to Dynseo products. Everyone’s also encouraged to take and submit photos of the fun! Good luck! We hope you have a blast! Cathy Thomas Wellness Director

Tracy Schreib Culinary Director

Our bodies are about 60% water. So it’s no surprise that staying hydrated is an important part of keeping our bodies functioning at optimal levels – from improving circulation and digestion to aiding temperature regulation. Water can also help us lose weight and eat less salt and sugar. But many of us don’t drink enough water throughout the course of the day –

Healthy Reasons to Stay Social this Summer

Stay Hydrated with Infused Waters whether it’s because we

don’t like the taste or simply don’t remember to. That’s where infused and flavored waters can help. These lightly sweet waters boast the refreshing, fruit-forward aspects of juice, but without the calories and sugar, making them a healthy way to maintain proper hydration levels. This summer, our community is excited to begin offering

these healthy flavored waters during mealtimes. Keep your eyes peeled for these exciting additions to our beverage menu!

Summer is the perfect time to get out and about, spend time with friends and family, and meet new people. And socialization is actually a great way to improve your health! Hanging out with friends – whether doing an activity together or just chatting – helps reduce stress, while also releasing immune-boosting chemicals in the body. That means socialization can actually help us ward off illness. It’s also beneficial for our cognitive health. An active

social life keeps the brain active and encourages continued learning. It even has the potential to lower the risk of dementia. Plus, interacting with others can do wonders for our mental health and self-esteem. Studies have shown that interacting with others can both boost well-being and decrease depression. It also helps foster a sense of belonging. So this summer, make an effort to take advantage of

some of the great activities and events our community has to offer! You might be surprised at the results!

This amazing fact made it into the Milwaukee Journal.

Frank served in the United States Army from 1960-1963. In August of l963, he eloped with Roswitha in Hamburg, Germany, and they are still married today! Frank speaks German as a second language and has traveled the world, including trips to Europe, Alaska and Canada. w Heritage’s Butterflies

Our science project for June was raising our own butterflies. We began with baby caterpillars, then watched them form chrysalides and finally miraculously transform into

Painted Lady Butterflies. What an amazing experience!

Describe the photo including who is in it and what they are doing.

Clockwise from top left: We brought our butterflies’ temporary home to the courtyard for the great release! A butterfly nibbling on watermelon is brought out for residents to see up close. The residents made butterfly snack bags in honor of our newly released friends. Shatoya displays a butterfly sitting on an orange slice.

Heritage Hoedown

On Thursday, June 14, Heritage Waukesha held our first-ever Heritage Hoedown. A good ol’ time was had by all thanks to some wonderful entertainment, yummy snacks, a country barn

photo stop and a little “kick your feet up” country dancing.

Clockwise from top left: Melvin can’t decide if he’s a good guy or bad guy! Frank and his lovely wife pose in front of the small barn. Lois can’t help but smile dressed in her “cowgirl duds.” Mathew and his daughter get into the theme of the evening.
