Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome to Pehiatea Te Wake-Arona (Room 11) who started at Henley School recently.

Last week we had over 60 children involved in the Rock da

House mass choir at the Trafalgar Centre. This is a biennial

event organised by music teacher, John Phillips and others involving around 21

Primary and Intermediate School Choirs from the Nelson and Waimea area

joining to sing a range of uplifting songs. There are also soloists and guest artists

and we have a number of Henley students who have been selected for the

‘Backbeat’ choir. Well done to all of the children who performed. A huge thanks

to parents who provided transport to rehearsals and to Miss Samantha Hickman

who was the Henley teacher in charge.

Last week we also had a Henley School ski team

competing up at the Rainbow Skifield in the

Rainbow Regional Inter-Primary School Champs.

Our team members were:

• Cole Clarke • Ethan Clarke • Summer Clarke • Maddie Sinclair

The team had a great day skiing on the fresh spring snow, and we look forward to

competing in this event again next year. Thanks to Caroline Clarke who transported

and managed the team on the day.

We have a number of activities and groups for our children to take part in during

lunchtime. One group that makes a real difference around the school is the gardening

group under the supervision of Mrs Donna Elkington. They have planted out a number

of areas including our school raised planters in the vegetable garden. Mr Satherley,

our school Caretaker, also helps maintain the plants. Earlier this year we lost a number

of plants in the drought – if anyone has some natives they would like to donate they

would be much appreciated – particularly for ground cover. A big thanks to Mike

O’Connor from Appleby Fresh Farm for supplying us with seedlings for our vegetable

garden.

Finally, thanks to all the staff for a fine term’s work and to the parents and caregivers

for continuing to support the school. I hope you have an enjoyable holiday break for

the next two weeks and look forward to seeing you all back safely for the start of

Term 4 on Monday 14th October.

No reira, noho ora mai rā (so look after yourself) and

hei konā rā (Goodbye for now), John

Henley retains the Mannering Cup!

On Tuesday 24th of

September, Henley sent a

team to the Mannering Cup

Rugby League tournament,

which was held on a cold,

windy day at Ngawhatu

fields in Stoke.

After tough but successful pool games against

Tahunanui, St Paul’s and Stoke, the team played

a second Tahunanui team in the semi-final, before

meeting a very tough, determined Hokitika team in

the final. This game was even throughout with

neither team getting ascendancy until the end

when a crucial intercept from a kick by Mac

Frankish gave us possession and a roll-on.

Tristan Lawson scored off the back of that, then

we managed another try just before the final

whistle to take out the final 6-4.

The team played their hearts out and fully deserve

congratulations.

VIEWING & ORDERING

You should by now have received information regarding viewing and

ordering of this year's school photographs (a flyer with viewing instructions

and a sample image was sent home).

Pacific Portraits use an online ordering system. Please take your time to read

all the instructions to ensure you are able to log in and complete the ordering

process.

If you have more than one child at the school, you will need to log in

separately for each of them (using each child's individual number) and place

your order which will then go into your online cart. Once you have

completed your order for each child just head back to "online ordering"

before proceeding to checkout.

Just a reminder that orders need to be placed by Monday 30th September.

Orders placed up to and including the 30th will be delivered to Henley School

early in Term 4. Orders placed after this will be couriered directly to you, but

at your expense.

If you have not received the information flyer from the school (after checking

your child's bag), please contact [email protected] . You will need

Our gardening group meets 1-2 times a week during their lunch

break from 12:45-1:20. They take care of the vegetable garden and

some small flower beds around the school. We would welcome any

parents or grandparents who would enjoy helping a small group of

children with the watering and weeding. This could be once a week

or fortnight. If you would like to take part, please let the office know.

GARDENING VOLUNTEERS

Congratulations to our Senior Henley team for a fantastic win at the Tasman Primary School Rugby 7's Tournament. The boys showed outstanding teamwork throughout the day and went on to win the final against St Josephs 6-2.
