Shiatsu Angie Jones MRSSShiatsu is a Japanese healing art. It relaxes and de-stresses the physical, emotional and mental aspects of a person and promotes the feeling of overall well-being. It can help a wide range of conditions – from specific injuries to more general symptoms of poor health.

Dan Hoare volunteers at Hannahs at Seale-Hayne and has Multiple Sclerosis: “My Shiatsu sessions with Angie are absolutely wonderful. She is such a compassionate and friendly person and a really good practitioner. She is so respectful of my disabilities and totally understands my condition. She is so gentle with her fingers and works on specific areas to get rid of the toxins. After each session I always feel completely relaxed, taller, cleansed and my mobility is better.

I have been having Shiatsu sessions with Angie once a fortnight for a year now and have never looked back. The NHS pain clinic has recommended that I carry on with Shiatsu as they recognise the immense benefit. Before I discovered Shiatsu I was desperate as I was in so much pain. I was looking for alternative therapies and willing to try anything. I would recommend it to anyone with an illness”.

EVENTS

Jaws ScreeningVisitors enjoyed a “swim along” screening of Spielberg’s classic blockbuster ‘Jaws’ in the warm, shark infested waters of Hannahs Hydro Pool recently. They watched half the water-based blockbuster in the water and the other half relaxed on a deck chair with popcorn and refreshments in the Amity Island Beach Cafe. All funds raised helped to buy new sensory lighting and underwater speakers for disabled guests to enjoy their time in the relaxing waters of the hydro pool even more. Another water-based film screening is coming soon.

Chest WaxBen Stephenson from Highweek, who works in the Health & Wellbeing Centre, bravely underwent a chest wax and raised £240 for Hannahs. The deed was performed by beauty therapist Amy Joanne, who also works in the Health & Wellbeing Centre. The screams could be heard all around the grounds of Seale-Hayne but they were coming from Ben’s supporters who had gathered to watch and cheer him on!

Hen PartiesHen parties are now becoming regular events in the Health & Wellbeing Centre. Hens can enjoy facials, massages and use of the hydrotherapy pool, sauna and chill-out room in the Health & Wellbeing Centre with teas and coffees served throughout the day. They can also enjoy a delicious meal in the private supper room next door to our Bistro. For more information or to book a Hen Party at Seale-Hayne call 01626 325825.

to a variety of injuries as you work to build a strong and healthy body. Our bodies have an intelligence which we rarely tap into. Through Pilates, our bodies can remember the strength, natural flow, and range of movement which we gradually lose through age, repeated heavy physical training, illness or simply our modern lifestyles. Through Pilates we change our bodies, strengthening and mobilising each joint as we work, but also we change our relationship to our body too, creating an intimacy with our physiology which cannot be surpassed.

Leia Yaniv, founder of Coretelligence Pilates, in South Devon, began working as a Pilates teacher in 2012. Leia is available for 1-1 sessions, where there are specific injuries to attend to or 2-1 sessions if you would like to work with one or a couple of friends. A variety of regular classes run all the time but need to be booked in advance.

THANK YOUThank you to everyone who has come to the Health & Wellbeing Centre since it opened, both past and present. By supporting us you have helped to create a fantastic service for those who need and benefit from the Hydrotherapy pool.

It has allowed us to create the ‘Chill Out Room,’ bring Paola in as an amazing Physiotherapist and put on fundraising events. Ben Stephenson’s chest wax enabled us to buy the new Hen Party robes and thanks to the success of the screening of Jaws we were able to buy underwater speakers for the pool.

We are delighted that we now have a second chair hoist. This is enabling a greater number of people to use the pool at any one time. There is no more waiting around and the pool experience for both guest and carer is much more relaxing and enjoyable.

Aaron and his team are there to welcome all visitors and support them in any way they can.
