3. PROCEDURES FOR BILGE AND WASTE OIL MANAGEMENT OF MACHINERY SPACES

3.3.4 As far as possible, the OWS must not be used within 5 nautical miles off the nearest land of any country.

4.2 PROCEDURES FOR HANDLING TANK WASHINGS

Disposal of slops mixed with chemical cleaning additives must be carried out as per Marpol Annex II or to authorised shore reception facilities.

Oily water accumulations in the pump room bilges are to be discharged strictly in compliance with Marpol Annex I requirements.

5. SEWAGE The sewage treatment plant must have a

nameplate providing information on the type and serial number of the device, the name of the manufacturer, the date of the completion of the manufacture, etc.

The ship is discharging comminuted and disinfected sewage using an approved system at a distance of more than 3 nautical miles from the nearest land; OR

Sewage which is not comminuted or disinfected is discharged at a distance of more than 12 nautical miles from the nearest land,

5.6 Records for discharge from the holding tank should be made in the engine room LOG BOOK

Records must include:

Date, location and quantity of sewage discharged at sea or ashore.

Distance from land and ship's speed, when discharge is at sea

6.6 Record Keeping Of Garbage Disposal 6.6.1 All entries in Garbage record book

are to be as per instructions given in the book.

6.6.2 All disposal of garbage is to be strictly as per ‘Garbage Disposal Restriction’ table provided below. 

6.6.3 Receipts for all garbage landed ashore is to be retained on board for at least 3 years.

7.2 PROCEDURES FOR DISPOSAL

7.2.5 Rust / scale debris

All the rust and scale debris accumulated must be disposed at sea, open ocean, complying with Garbage Management Plan requirements. The vessel must be at least 25 miles from the nearest shore.

For vessels with class notation ‘CLEAN’, maximum sulphur content in any fuel oil is 3%

Ensure that the vessel orders, receives and uses correct grade of oil not only to meet manufacturer’s, owners or charterer’s standards but also to comply with international and local emission regulations on Sulphur control such as Emission Control Areas as specified in MARPOL Annex VI (revised), California Air Resources Board (CARB) and European Union directives for ships at berth in EU ports.

13. SOOT BLOWING In particular no soot blowing is allowed to

be done in port limits (min 12 miles from the nearest coast) and immediate corrective steps must be taken in the event of any smoke pollution noticed from the vessel.

16. REPORTING OF NON-COMPLIANCE BY EMPLOYEES AND CREW MEMBERS

The company encourages an open reporting of non-compliance issues and shall safeguard the identity of the person(s) making such reports.

16.3 ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE FORMS

At the time of sign-off, each crew member shall certify in writing whether they were aware of any breaches and violations of MARPOL and company Environmental Management System during their tenure. The “Environmental Compliance Reporting” (as provided in Annex 4 of this manual) form is provided for this. Master should get this form signed by the crew member prior his signing off the vessel and completed forms are to be retained on board.

ENERGY CONSERVATION The Shipboard Quality, Health, Safety and

Environment Protection (QHSE) Committee should discuss the importance of energy conservation with the crew and officers on board. The committee should monitor and constantly strive for continuous improvement of energy conservation.

Form F-S-0508 EMS Monthly Record must be sent by each vessel at the end of every month.
