W a r m w e a t h e r brings annoy-
ing pests like fl eas, ticks and chiggers. They bite and suck blood from warm blooded mam-mals. This includes you and your pets. Be-sides being uncomfort-able these bug bites can spread infections like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spot-ted fever. They can also ruin a picnic or patio party for you and your children.
These nuisance pests can be easily controlled in your lawn by applying Grass Pad Critter Gitter. Apply the insecticide to the lawn in late afternoon and water for thirty minutes. This will control surface feeding insects as well as those in the crown
of the grass plant. In-sects continue to hatch in your lawn through-out the summer. So for complete season long control an application once a month may be necessary. Bugs that hatch early in summer will continue to multiply until September.
Liquid sprays such as Cyonara or Bifen can also be used, but they also should be watered in after twen-ty-four hours. When spraying make sure to spray dog kennels, tall grass, bushes, low hanging tree branches and the foundation of the house. This will give good general control of irritating pests, as well as, mosquitoes. For best results spray in the early evening with no wind.

The Pot Shop is at the Grass Pad. Find glazed ceramic pots in bold coor-dinating colors, sizes and shapes for any backdrop. Choose with care; your rela-tives should want to fi ght over your pots! The bigger the better and the more, the merrier!
Uncle says three easy steps will create a basic framework for any pot, basket, or container. The rest is up to you.
The Thrill: The plants that the make the big im-pact and provide height and structure to your container. Dracaena spikes, Zonal Ge-raniums, New Guinea Im-patiens or Dragon Wing® Begonia add thrill. Fireworks fountain grass or tropical hi-biscus work well. Perennials such as sedum or penstemon can be use, also Magilla™ Perilla or the new Sun Patiens™.
The Fill: Flowering or fo-liage plants that will fi ll out the body of your container. Choose complimentary col-ors of pastels or bold colors. Select plants that will grow at similar rates so one plant that will grow at similar rates so one plant does not over-run another. Diamond Frost
Euphobia®, Osteospernum, and Lantana are just a few.
The Spill: Trailing vari-eties that spill and cascade over the side of your con-tainer. For foliage try ivies, licorice plant or vinca vine. Add color with bacopa, trail-ing verbena, trailing calilbra-choa, scaevola or torenia.
Try new plants and combinations. Use bold and col-orful foliage. Add untraditional plants such as caladiums, upright elephant ears, cannas or tropical variegated gin-ger, hydrangea, and cordyline.
Come on down to the Grass Pad we got everything you need to make you the envy of the neighborhood.
UNCLE’S EASYROSESROSES
POT SHOPPOT SHOPGLAZED & CONFUSED
Roses have long been the centerpiece of formal gardens. They are a sym-bol of beauty and love for poets and singers as di-verse as William Shake-speare and Bette Midler. Oddly enough they were also primitive man’s fi rst barbed wire and planted
as fences to protect fi eld and fl ock from thief and vandal. Through the ages, countless gardeners have worked their magic and today roses fl ourish in gardens throughout the world.
Low maintenance shrub roses require less at-tention and less subjected to black spot diseases that plague their more elegant cousins. They are also resistant to powdery mildew and rust and will tolerate humid summer weather.
Shrub roses are ex-tremely versatile and may be used wherever sea-son long color is desired. As a border for porch, patio or pool, depend-able color will set off the green grass of suburban lawns. Flower blossom on shrub roses can be smaller than hybrid tea roses but displays in ever blooming profusion.
Uncle’s Easy Roses include best varieties from the Easy Elegance® Rose series Paint the Town (red) and Yellow Brick Road. Also the very popular Drift® Rose se-ries are repeat-bloomers that are tough, disease re-sistant, winter hardy and
virtually maintenance-free. Continuously bloom-ing from spring to frost they are naturally dwarf, with very attractive foliage. Ground cover Flower Carpet Roses® are available in scarlet, red, pink, white, yellow and amber.
Uncle says these shrub rose varieties are not as fl ashy as their hy-brid tea sorority sisters but they certainly are an easy date. They are win-ter hardy in our climate, tolerate summer heat and deliver reliable good looks year after year.
