Eight OT students and 2 faculty traveled to Haiti for 1 week to implement their capstone project. They conducted home visits and provided environmental adaptations and skillful interventions to allow for optimal occupation performance. Four days were spent at the clinic evaluating and treating patients. Students hope to revisit Haiti in the near future and help to rebuild the Bon Samaritan Clinic.
NOTABLE SHU GRADS
OT, PT, and SLP students and faculty spent a week in Guatemala helping underserved populations. They worked interprofessionally to apply clinical skills to assess various aspects of peoples' functional abilities and implement interventions. They modified and adapted wheelchairs, completed hearing screenings, provided hearing aids, went on home visits, and educated on the importance of prevention and proper self-care.
SLP graduate students, Lianne Khoo, Ansley Gouck, Jill McCann, and Arianna Faustini, took first place in the regional Praxis Bowl at the New England Symposium for Speech-Language Professionals (NESSLP) Conference in Worcester, MA.
The Veterans Resource Center has moved to the
second floor of the HC wing, room HC-222.
