3 O’Clock Divine Mercy Prayer

You expired, Jesus, but the source of life

gushed forth for souls and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.

O Fountain of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and

empty Yourself out upon us.

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of

Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust

in You.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy

Immortal One, Have mercy on us and on the whole world (3

times).

JESUS, King of mer-cy, I trust in You!

Amen.

2019 CATHOLIC APPEAL Total contributions as of April, 19, 2019

The 2019 Catholic Appeal campaign still needs your support to reach its goal. So far, Good Shepherd has received $63,755 in pledge donations that represents 74% of our financial goal of $83,965.

The Catholic Appeal helps sustain the important minis-tries that the Archdiocese of Boston provides for those in need. Please pick up a pledge form at the back of the church or visit bostoncatholicappeal.org . Thank you for your prayers and support.

On behalf of our priests in good standing, especially our senior priests, thank you for your generous support of last week’s special Easter Collection. Like us. Boston priests are troubled by the current events taking place in the Church, but they still answer the call and are there for us. Thank you for being there for them. You can learn more about the ways in which Boston priests continue to answer the call every day at cler-gytrust.org .

PRAYER for Earth Day

Dear Lord, on this Earth Day we celebrate all of life that you have created! We thank you for the beauty we find in every creature big and small and for your beautiful mountains, trees and waters big and small. Help us to understand that whether big or small we

are all connected to each other.

May your love 💕 guide us in our desire to protect your beautiful earth 🌏 so that we take practical and meaningful steps every day to support the environment

in our home town and in communities everywhere.

We pray especially for your Earth’s waters—the oceans, rivers and streams which we need for life and

that we love so much.

Strengthen our awareness of keeping your waters clean so creatures who reside within them can live free

of pollution, and fishers can fish and kids swim and play in them for a long time to come!

Lord we seek the power of your love especially on this Earth Day, but everyday to help us live in harmony with your Earth; the place you gave us and that we

call home. AMEN

BIRTHRIGHT OF FRAMINGHAM AN-NUAL MOTHER'S DAY CARNATION

DRIVE

Good Shepherd parish will be distributing carnations and seeking donations in support of Birthright of Framingham on Mother’s Day weekend, May 11/12.

Birthright provides love and support to women facing crisis pregnancies and helps them find housing, food, medical care, jobs, and school. Your donations will help pay for the rent and utilities of the Birthright office.

Our Good Shepherd parishioners have given much sup-port throughout the years and we thank you very much for your continued support this weekend. If you are able to spend a 10-15 minutes after one of the Masses to help distribute the carnations, please contact Peggy Higgins ( [email protected] or 508-653-1590) and let her know which Mass you would be availa-ble. Thank you.

WEDNESDAY LUNCH GROUP

All are welcome to come and meet with Mi-chael Halloran who will discuss The Par-menter Foundation – it’s legacy of caring and it’s mission going forward.

The next meeting of the Wednesday Lunch Group will be on Wednesday, May 1st in St. Zepherin’s parish cen-ter at 11:30 AM. Please remember to bring a brown bag lunch and a donation for the food pantry.

It is not necessary to let us know if you are coming but call if you need information: Janet Testa 508-358-2934 or Marjorie McCammon 508-358-7203.

In Luke’s gospel (24:1-10) the angels ask the wom-en, “Why do you seek the living one among the dead?” Certainly the women and other disciples were relieved when a pious stranger had come for-ward to provide Jesus with an honorable burial ra-ther than the unmarked, mass grave into which crimi-nals were tossed. For the women to have prepared spices, observed the Sabbath rest, and arrived at dawn as mourners, shows confidence in the future God has promised to the faithful in Israelites. In Eze-kiel 36:16-28, “I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you. . . . and make you live by my statutes . . . . be my people, and I will be your God.”

The prophets’ pictured God revitalizing a people dispirited by generations of exile and subject to a succession of foreign rulers by using metaphors of the dead coming to life. “Your dead shall live, their corpses shall arise. Awake and sing with joy, (you) who sleep in the dust; for your dew is a dew of lights, and the earth shall give birth to the shades,” (Isa 26:19; cf. Isa 65-66; Ezek 37:1-14). So in the time of Jesus there were some Jews, particularly Pharisees, inter-preted these prophecies differently. They did not refer to Israel’s destiny among the nations of the

world but to a future time of divine judgment and transformation.

Martha expressed this belief about her brother Laz-arus in John 11:24, only to hear Jesus reply, “I am the resurrection and the life, whoever believes in me even if he should die, he will live,” (v. 25). Even so nothing could prepare Jesus’ friends and followers for the new reality of Easter. Where could they ex-pect to find the missing Jesus? Mary Magdalene feared that some hostile party might have taken the body (Jn 20:2). After all nothing has changed in the world. Jesus’ frightened disciples have doors locked even a week later (Jn 20:19, 26).

Today people ignore the questions that prophecies of resurrection were addressing: new creation and justice. Instead of seeking the life which restores a community of love, justice and joy, banqueting in God’s kingdom, my email queries worry about indi-viduals and their bodies. In the gospels Jesus has not withdrawn from the world in which his friends and disciples exist. Instead every resurrection appear-ance challenges them to find life by reaching out to others.

Growing up on the edge of poverty, Hector wrestled with homelessness, and was struggling to find food. While playing basketball in a local Church league, he met Fr. Paul O’Brien, who encouraged him to go to college.

Fr. Paul was there for Hector at every step of his journey to college and beyond. With his help and guidance, Hector went on to play basketball for Regis College, graduate, and now works as a school counselor to give back to students the same hope and inspiration he received. Like Fr. Paul, our senior priests in good standing have been helping others for decades.

As we celebrate this Easter with our families and friends, please remember the Boston priests who have helped us along our life journey and consider making a gift of thanks to the special Easter collection for their health and retirement needs.

Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust – an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.
