very happy. Many new internet
communities are mostly virtual
surrogates for closer human relations.
It is for the fifteenth time that we have
gathered here from very different parts
of our continent. We, too, are
competitors, as everybody tries to be
better than all others and sometimes
these fights indeed get very strong.
But on the other hand we are a very
nice company, too. The Golden Drum
is not only an advertising festival, a
Creative Academy and competition;
the Golden Drum is a society of
dreamers, of artists, of thinkers and
inventors who come back to Portorož
every year not only to compete, but
also to meet colleagues, to enjoy their
company and to join the club.

job is competition of human dreams,
honest promises and imagination.

ICAC, the Intercontinental AdvertisingCUP was established in 2007 byorganizers of the world’s three biggestregional advertising festivals: AsiaPacific’s ADFEST, Ibero-American FIAPand New European Golden Drum.From the first year onwards the ADC*E,Art Director’s Club of Europe, is also amember.Basic principle of this new advertisingcompetition is that all shortlistedentries from participating regional
festivals are entered without additionalpayment into the Intercontinentaladvertising selection judged by thehighest level international jurors.
The mission of The CUP is theaffirmation of locally inspiredcreativity. The purpose of The CUP isnot competition with any otheradvertising show, but a very newinternational concept that makes itpossible for local creativity to bejudged on a global scale by its localmerit.It is a natural extension of localfestivals with regional judges, whorecognize the quality of local creativityand bring a fresh perspective to globaljudging.
The judging process structure wasdeveloped by Michael Conrad. Allentries are grouped in 19 Best ofproduct and service categories and atfirst judged regardless of their initialmedia appearance. In the secondgroup Best of Media the jury selectsthe best work regardless of its productor service category. And in the thirdgroup Best of Admaking the craft skillsare awarded.In every category 5 nominees areselected in each of 38 categories.
