Positive Cheering/EffectsThings Kids Say They Don’t Want Their Parents To Do:

• Don’t yell out instructions

• Don’t yell at the officials, coaches, or my teammates

• Don’t lecture me about my mistakes after the game

• Don’t forget to laugh and have fun

Can the behavior of fans influence game outcomes?

• Yes, positively your cheering can give your team that extra ‘edge’ or ‘gear’ or ‘adrenaline’

• Yes, negatively you could have ‘torn down’ your team, child, official or coach.

• Yelling at a coach, teammate or official will only hurt your child’s attitude

• If you yell negatively all game at an official, and there is a close call at the end, which way will he call it???

How do we go about Positive Cheering?

• We work together as ONE, just as any of our sports teams

• The student section/cheerleaders should set the example, and the rest of the crowd should look to follow their lead

• Be proud of your school – stand during the school fight song…Do we even know the words??? (Stand during the opposing team’s song – shows respect)

• Get traditions back or start new ones!

• Doesn’t mean you can’t yell or cheer – just do so in a positive manner

For every positive cheer/comment we make, we take a step forward; however, for every negative comment we take two steps back – SO let’s take the steps forward for our students and our teams to be successful! Be LOUD, Be PROUD, Be a BRAVE!“All progress takes place outside the comfort zone.” – Michael John Bobak

Benefits of AthleticsAcademic benefits:

• A student-athlete’s GPA is a full point higher on average than that of a non-athlete

• A student-athlete’s attendance is well above what that is of a non-athlete

• Learn the balance and responsibility of grades and the positive or negative effect they can have on one’s eligibility

• Learn skills such as time management, patience, persistence, hard-work, and even helps with social relationships

Multi-Sport vs Single Sport Athlete

Single Sport – Often first to Quit; Multi-Sport – Better Overall Skills and Ability ;

***“If a student chooses to play one sport, we as Play Equals More Play (Rest, Rest, Rest)

parents and coaches must support that decision,

and at the same time ensure that athlete lives a

balanced life, gets the proper rest and time away from that sport.”

“Successful and Unsuccessful people do not vary in their abilities. They vary in their desires to reach their potential.” – John Maxwell
