Audience

• All youth, ages 12-18– Most at risk for getting into trouble if not given the

support they need to grow and thrive in the community.– Need access to services, programs, get involved in the

community.– Raised on Sound bytes, search, social networks. Web

information is not accessible unless you know what to search for.

– Needs support from family, school, youth programs, councilors, teachers.

PROBLEMS YOUTH FACE

• SCHOOL: The graduation rate for OUSD students is only 60%.

• TEENAGE PREGANANCY: Over 8%of all births in Oakland are to teenage mothers.

• GANG ACTIVITY strongly affects Oakland’s communities and is attributed with committing most of the acts of violent crime.

• HEALTH: Hospitalization rates due to asthma for Oakland children are four times higher than for all California children, at 775 per 100,000. They need better access to health care services.

KineKt focuses on these assets:• Youth as resources in our community- Young people are given useful

roles in the community.• Safety – young person feels safe at home, school, and in the

neighborhood.• Creative activities – young people need to spend three or more hours

a week in less lessons or practice in music, theater, or other arts.• Youth programs – young person spends three or more hours per week

in sports, clubs, or organizations at school and/or in the community.

• Read local news• Review job listings, select ones you want and save them to your Job log.• Find events, save them to your event log, SMS events to friends to arrange meetings. View

friend responses. • Find community service hours and track them.• Need health care services? – find doctors, and free services in private. • Check you personal page, My Page. This contains your event, job, and community service logs

– everything you saved.• Set default settings – create a profile, set up topics you want to read, order topics, add new

groups to your list, update your content.• Administer a secure group – create a user group: define users, password, post news to the

group. For example, provide all school communication through the group.

filter the content and make it useful.
