ter 12 hours, our Firebirds left the compe-tition feeling “accomplished,” as their presi-dent Erik Vento described.

It was a pleas-ant shock to the team when they won due to it being their first ever win. They are taking this win as an “opportunity to try to grow in order to lat-er excel even

more,” in up-coming competi-tions, said Vice President Luis Penaloza and Head of Fund-raising Pedro Fernandez. In the end, Santa-cruz was very proud of the team’s win and everything they accomplished together that day. Now, they are all actively preparing and looking for-ward to states.

Christmas Home Decorations

The season of Christmas fills the last month of the year with glistening lights, the aroma of fresh pine and the feelings of warmth from hot chocolate. The rush of finding the perfect gifts and turn-ing your house into a Christmas wonderland is in the front of ev-eryone’s mind. Almost every person knows that to create this vision the pricing may be very

high. It’s always helpful to gain some inspira-tions and ignite your creative juices at an affordable levelthrough these do-it-yourself projects. These original home deco-rations and gifts will completely redesign your home and bring the Christmas spirit to everyone who sees.

The first home deco-ration is an ideal cen-terpiece for the dinner table. You can get all of the items to make this from object you have at home and from a stop at your local Dollar Tree. In order to make this you will need three wine glasses, a dozen orna-ments, a large plate and

three candles. The second is a beau-tiful window decoration that hangs from the top. You will need a line of plastic pine streamer, a dozen ornaments, two packs of ribbon, Christ-mas red flowers and

snowflakes. The last home decoration is a Christmas themed frame that can be hung from the wall. To recreate this decoration you will need three different

size or-naments, ribbon and a pretty frame.

Christmas Gift Ideas

Christmas is just around the corner. Lights are getting put up and pine scents invade the air. The pressure of finding the perfect gift for your loved ones starts to kick in, but don’t you worry because we have you covered. Finding the perfect gift might seem hard, but you’ll be surprised to see that the simplest ones are the most heart-warming and memorable gifts of them all.

1) A Snack Box:

For this gift idea all you will need is a box, tags and your loved one’s favorite snacks!Put together a mean-ingful box that shows them just how much you know them and their unique taste. Leave a cute message on the inside of the box, label the snacks you chose and be sure to add cute decorations to really make it the best gift!

“This is some-thing so simple yet extremely touching, It’s so sweet to see how your friends no-tice tiny little details like what your favor-ite chocolates are,” said Sofia Oviedo.

2) Get them a Record or CD:

Music is the perfect way to connect and

show your love to peo-ple in a different way. Find your loved one’s favorite album and give it to them along with a heartfelt note. You can also gift them an album that you think they might enjoy and give them a note with songs on the album that they need to listen to.

“Being a person with a huge passion for music, I’d say this was by far the best gift I’ve ever received. I got to discover new music, and that’s something I’m always looking to find,” said Fran Alvarez.

3) Coffee Mug Mixers:

If you are looking for a sweet gift for someone with a sweet tooth then this is perfect for you! Pour melted chocolate into a vintage or decorative

spoon and top it with adorable treats like marshmallows or can-dy cane pieces. Wrap with a decorative bak-ing sheet or cellophane and you are good to go!

“All my friends say I’m addicted to candy, and now I can definitely say they’re right! I haven’t stopped munching on these delicious treats since the mo-ment they were gifted to me,” said Awilda Barrera.

4) Picture Col-lage:

Great friendships leave you with great memories. Whether you’re far from your loved ones or have them close by, this is a gift that will definitely be appreciated by all because of the amaz-ing, fun times that

it will bring to mind. Start by setting aside a selection of pictures of the best times you’ve shared with the person. Next, choose where you’ll be laying them all out. Get creative! You can try a wooden letter, a cork board, canvas, or just a simple frame. Finally, arrange the pictures, glue them on, and decorate however you wish.

“I haven’t seen my best friends in two years because we live on opposite sides of the country now. She sent me a beautiful collage full of pictures from our best times through-out high school and college and it was the sweetest gift I’ve ever received. It had me smiling and tearing up while reminiscing for hours,” said Kath-erine Laxton.

Christmas Movies You Had No Idea Were “Christmas Movies”

Before November is even over, every chan-nel you flip to on TV is playing some gushy Christmas movie. But what if you are not in the mood for The Grinch or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer AGAIN. This list is the chance to watch action-packed and eerie movies while still being in the Christmas Spirit.

The Night-mare Before Christmas

The first movie on our list, even though mostly played during October for Halloween, is actu-ally a Christmas movie. When Halloweentown’s pumpkin king, Jack Skellington, accidently discovers Christmastown, his main goal is to con-trol and be apart of the bright colors and warm feelings of Christmas rather than being the “master of frights.” This childhood movie created by the dark mind of Tim Burton revolves around Jack’s blunders as he kidnaps Santa and teach-

es the terrifying monsters of Halloween what he believes the true meaning of Christmas is.

“There’s children throwing snowballs, instead of throwing heads, they’re busy building toys and

absolutely no one’s dead.”

– Jack Skellington

Edward Scissorhands

Second on our list is another one of Tim Burton’s creepy creations that have a hint of holi-day cheer. The entire film is a grandmother telling her granddaughter about a young man with blades for hands trying to as-similate to a society that

worships his uniqueness but quickly turns against him. In this society he falls in love but even his kindness cannot keep him from being an outsider. The moral of the grandmother’s story is why it always snows on Christmas thanks to Edward and his scissor-hands.

“Before he came down here, it never

snowed. And af-terwards, it did. I

don’t think it would be snowing now if he weren’t still up there. Sometimes you can still catch me dancing in it.”

-Kim

Gremlins Even after those two movies and you are still in the mood for a little bit of horror, imagine unwrapping a gift and finding a Gremlin inside. The movie is about a boy whose dad buys him a special pet for Christmas that comes with special rules. The adorable little creature should not be ex-posed to bright lights, wa-ter or fed after midnight or else terrible things will happen. And of course these things do happen and what was once one adorable creature turns into a gang of grotesque monsters causing holiday havoc in the town.

Batman Returns Yes, there are even Christmas superhero movies! Who doesn’t love Christmas in Go-tham? In this movie Bat-man must face off against the wicked Penguin and devious Catwoman whose main goal is to denounce his name and portray him as a criminal. The atmo-sphere of the movie is decorated with Christmas lights and loose penguins in the sewers.

“Mistletoe can be deadly if you eat it.”

-Catwoman

In Bruges Lastly, this Brit-ish-American black comedy has two Irish hit-men sent to Belgium on Christmas to hide out after a job has gone terribly wrong. The adventures of these two hit men with contrasting opinions on the fable-like town brings humor to the plot even though one of them is facing the guilt of killing a child. Their violent mishaps in the peaceful town make this thriller very entertaining

and hard to remember that this all takes place on Christmas.

“If I grew up on a farm and was retard-ed, Bruges might im-press me. But I didn’t

so it doesn’t.”- Ray

Christmas EveFor Christmas Eve, most of us celebrate “Noche Bue-na” which means get together with family and have dinner before Santa Claus comes to deliver presents under our tree. A girls’ go to outfit is mainly a dress or even a nice shirt (maybe throw on a scarf if it’s chilly), a cute pair of jeans and some booties to finish off the look.

Christmas DayAny ideas on how to dress for the day practically known as Santa’s hangover? Well, honestly, the advice we are going to give you sounds like something your mom would say: go for layers. However, don’t layer up too much because after all we do live in what feels like the hottest city in the world sometimes. If your plans for Christmas Day are to visit family then you are most definitely in the right place.

New Years Eve2017 is coming to an end and here are some tips on how to stay fashionable. For New Year’s, we usually go all out and love the sparkles and that’s one way to go. Sparkly dresses, or leather pants with a pretty blouse and jacket (if it’s cold) would be the perfect outfit. Girls love the heels and it’s a good way to make an outfit so much better.

The Astros claimed their first World Series title in franchise his-tory three weeks ago, defeating the Dodgers 5-1 in Game 7 at Dodger Stadium. Houston scored five runs in the first two innings to silence the eager Los Angeles crowd who have been waiting since the late 80’s for a glimpse of a World Series championship . Lance McCullers started for the Astros, but he lasted just 2 1/3 scoreless innings after hitting four batters, which was the most in a World Series game and ever in a MLB playoff game. Charlie Morton slammed the door shut by allowing just one run with four strikeouts in four relief innings. Whether starting or working out the bullpen, Morton was incredible all postseason. In my sincerest opinion he should have won World Series MVP.

Still dealing with the after-effects from Hurricane Harvey, the city of Houston hada reason to celebrate thanks to the Astros’ clutch Game 7 victory. It empowered a city that has gone through so much, bring-ing them together. The entire series had been high-lighted by towering home runs, but the Astros implemented a small-ball approach early Wednesday to beat the Dodgers. George Springer led the game with a double. Alex Bregman then reached on an error which scored Springer stole third base, and ultimately scored on a Jose Altuve groundout to first. The Astros scored five early runs, executing in a variety of ways to get men home. Houston left just five runners on base three of which occurred in the top of the sixth inning when Cameron Maybin

popped out in a pinch-hit at-bat with two outs and the bases loaded. The Dodgers, however, frequently occupied the bases, but struggled to get runners home. Los Angeles went 1 for 13 with runners in scor-ing position, stranding a monstrous 10 batters on base. Cleanup hitter Cody Bellinger struck out three times, surpassing Aaron Judge’s recently established record for most strikeouts in a single postseason. But it wasn’t just Bellinger’s fault. As a whole, the Dodgers failed to execute when scoring opportunities presented themselves. The offense failed to execute in their factors and the advaenture to win. George Springer was named World Se-ries MVP for his outstanding play during the series and Justin Ver-lander did an execptionable job as well. Well done Houston Astros.
