AS Media Coursework Evaluation
2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I have tried to make my magazine look original and possibly reflect
the ideas of magazines suck as NME
The house style remains the same throughout
It contains a front cover, a contents page and a double page
spread
3. Front cover
I used a simple masthead. It is short and stands out. The word
revived itself stands out. I got ideas for the masthead from
various other music magazines. The masthead is also in the primary
optical area.
The selling line where music comes first helps grab the readers
attention along with the masthead above. It is short and simple as
it is one of the first things the customer will see.
4. Contents page
I used a simple list of pages for the reader allowing them to
quickly find the page number theyre after.
I have tried to maintain a good house style throughout by using the
same font for the headings on the contents page as previously used
on the masthead on the front cover.
5. Inside cover
I tried to maintain the house style again and have a simple double
spread which matches the contents and the front cover.
The pull quote stands out and is simple and eye catching.
6. How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
The social groups my media product represents are young people who
like the music of the main artist on the cover and are fans of
her
New chart/indie music is represented throughout my magazine
It tells the audience how the artist Philippa Lockitt is all about
the fans, appealing well to the reader
7. What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
I think a rock music media institution may distribute my magazine
as that is the type of music represented throughout the
magazine
I think it would be good if it was distributed by a magazine
company like Kerrang as I have tried to gain a similar
audience
8. Who would be the audience for your media product?
I think the main audience for my magazine would be young adults who
like and are interested in the music advertised in the
magazine
The language throughout the magazine works well with the audience
as it isnt boring and is similar to language they use today
9. How did you attract/address your audience?
Front cover
My magazine stands out to the audience the magazine is aimed
at
They would easily recognise the person on the front of the magazine
and therefore may be persuaded to but it
The bright colours will attract a younger audience
The name revived will also catch the readers attention as is it not
a boring name
Attention grabbing name
Bright colours and recognisable artist
10. How did you attract/address your audience?
Contents page
The contents page is fairly simple and informs the reader where the
information they are looking for is in the magazine
The picture of the artist in the bottom right corner is in the
terminal optical area and the word contents is in the primary
optical area
The contents page attracts the audience as it has a contrast
between dark and bright colours
It sticks to the house style created on the front page
It isnt too complicated
11. How did you attract/address your audience?
Inside cover
The large picture of the featured artist definitely attracts the
reader
The pull quote particularly grabs the attention of the reader
Again, I have tried to maintain a consistent house style
throughout
It appeals to the younger readers well
12. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
I have learnt how to use Photoshop
I have managed to edit images to they look better and I can now
change an image to fit the requirements of a magazine easily
I am happy with my end result from using Photoshop
13. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product.
Looking back over my preliminary task I feel I have learnt a lot
about how to create a magazine and how to attract readers attention
and how to appeal to a particular audience. I have learnt how to
manipulate images and use things such as pull quotes and attention
grabbing language when constructing my media product. My final
product contrasts with the ancillary project and shows progression
through my time using Photoshop. Overall, I am pleased with my
magazine.
