Effective last minute revision
requires tactics.
1. Cut out the fat
Its too late to revise everything.
Condense it down to memorising
the facts. Write essay plans for
essay based subjects and
memorise them. Here’s where
your flash cards come into their
own.
2. learn the summaries
Find online videos and lectures
that summarise your subject
material. Use the revision notes
that your teachers have given you
3. PAST PAPERS
Get plenty of practise on those
past paper questions that you have
found most difficult and have your
teacher talk you through your
answers
4. Clear your head
Go for a walk or a run. Clear your
mind and give yourself space to
think rationally. You’ll think
more clearly for the fresh air.
5. Sleep is more important than
cramming
If you’re suffering pre-exam
jitters then cramming last
minute won’t work. Overloading
yourself with new information
can actually be detrimental.
Skim your flashcards and essay
plans, but don’t open up a new
chapter of a textbook and
expect to learn it by tomorrow.
It’s much more sensible to get
some shut-eye so you can wake
up feeling alert and ready to do
your best.
Quiz quiz quiz Leading researchers in the
field of memory
consider testing yourself as
one of the most effective
ways to improve your
ability to recall
information .
Testing yourself also helps
you check for any gaps in
your knowledge. Practice
papers provide a good
starting point, as well as
quizzing yourself at the end
of your revision session.
