Education linked to local employment opportunities We all know that Warrington is a fantastic place to live, work and study, but recent research compiled by the Think Tank,

Centre for Cities, has revealed that Warrington is in fact one of the UK’s greatest economic success stories of the 21st

Century. The long-term investment in the town’s transport links, homes and education infrastructure has encouraged

more and more people to move to Warrington from neighbouring cities and, as the town has expanded, it has become

even more attractive as a business location. Warrington now punches well above its weight in terms of the number of

national companies headquartered in the town and in some sectors of the economy is fast becoming a UK centre of

excellence.

As a result, there is increasing demand for employees with the practical skills needed in these sectors. Employers are

increasingly aware that students who have chosen a vocational route are very well prepared for work. More and more

companies are looking to recruit directly from College or to take on Apprentices to fullfill high quality job vacancies.

At Warrington Collegiate we recognise the important role we play in supporting the growth of the local economy by

producing highly skilled people, ready for the world of work. All our courses have a specific focus on the practical skills

needed by local employers that will allow you, the learner, to have the best chance of starting a productive and rewarding

career in your chosen industry.

We work hard to ensure our courses reflect the needs of local employers, and you are prepared for employment, by

providing real work experience during your studies. Warrington has a diverse economy and a wide range of career

opportunities are available for motivated and skilled applicants.

National statistics from the London Economics’ study of the labour force, May 2013, revealed that university graduates

studying only vocational qualifications at sixth form (BTECS) had an employment rate of 80% compared with 74% for

A-level only students. These figures underline the role that high quality qualifications which develop vocational skills could

play in addressing many of the challenges we face in the UK.

There are many positive opportunities for students enrolling at Warrington Collegiate. You will gain qualifications enabling

you to find employment in your chosen industry or progress onto Higher Education as well as gaining valuable skills

through our Warrington Collegiate Graduate Award which will enhance your knowledge, talent and skills even further.

the career path you wish to take. They can be studied at Levels 1 – 3.

Vocational qualifications offer a mix of theory and practice, including an

element of work experience. They suit students who prefer to be assessed

knowledge that you will need to be successful in the future.

English A-level is perfect for people who:

loved English at school; have an enquiring

mind; enjoy learning about the origins of

words; like to share and discuss ideas as part

of a group; enjoy analysing and picking apart

a range of texts (fiction and non-fiction);

would like to learn how to write in a wide

range of styles for a range of purposes and

audiences. To access English A-level you

should have an A*/A/B in your GCSE

English Language. If you gained a C, but have

been working for several years since then,

you can complete a pre-course activity to see

if the course is suitable for you.

Modules studied include:

Year one, AS Level: UNIT 1: Categorising

• Introduction to the methods, approaches

and terminology required to study

language at AS level.

• Exploration of how language is used in

both written and spoken texts.

• Analysis of how purpose, audience and

UNIT 2: Creating Texts (Coursework)

• Develops candidates' own writing

expertise as writers for different

genres.

Progression:

Studying the full two year A-level course

could help you go on to study at university.

A-level English can help with future careers in

journalism, teaching, public services,

publishing, legal professions, advertising and

many other jobs that require a high level of

literacy.

Mathematics Edexcel A Level(Level3)

Course Length:

1 - 2 years

Do you have a logical mind? Do you enjoy

solving puzzles? Do you have aspirations to

work in fields such as Medicine, Formula 1,

Space Exploration or Code breaking? If so,

then an A Level Mathematics will open the

doors to these careers and more. It shows

potential employers that you have a highly

logical mind that can present organised

arguments to solve numerical problems - a

skill which is widely sought after.

To access Mathematics A Level, you should

have an A*/A/B at higher tier GCSE

Mathematics. If you gained a grade C or have

been working for a few years, you can
