LIBRARYLocated at the centre of the College, the student library is equipped with thousandsof books covering all subjects. There are plenty of computers with the latestsoftware and internet access, and e-learning materials are also available. Our expertstaff will be on hand to assist you in finding the materials you need.

SPORTS HALL & CLIMBING WALLOur full size sports hall is built to SportEngland specifications and, as well ashaving all of the indoor facilities youwould expect, we also have aspectacular built-in climbing wall.

SALONSOur salons are purpose-built and areequipped with the latest industrystandard equipment and facilities. FITNESS SUITEAll students will have access to our fully equipped, air conditioned fitness suite,which has a built in CD system to create the perfect environment for a work-out.Pop into the Student Support Centre to set up an induction with one of our fullyqualified fitness instructors.

NURSERYThe College nursery is located in aseparate building within our groundson Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland.

The nursery provides a caring and wellresourced learning environment forchildren of students, staff and thegeneral public.

Professionally qualified and experiencedstaff look after children from threemonths old to four years and elevenmonths.

The nursery is a fun place wherechildren are encouraged to learnthrough play, experiencing new andexciting activities while beingsupported by caring adults.

Our ‘Be Your Own Boss’ drop-insessions give students theopportunity to discuss businessideas or aspirations, and freeinformation, advice andguidance sessions with anEnterprise Coach are alsoavailable.For many of our full-timestudents there may also be theopportunity to study anenterprise qualification.ACTIVITIES

Qualifications are measured in terms of levels. When searching for employmentor looking to progress to higher education, such as university, your potentialemployer or preferred university will look at the level of qualification you haveachieved and measure this against their selection criteria.

Apprenticeships are practical, hands on programmes designed to provide youwith relevant, practical training, which will enable you to progress within yourchosen industry. Apprentices are paid a minimum of £95 per week.Apprentices start at Level 2 unless you have suitable knowledge and vocational experience in your chosen field. You will work with an employer four days per week and spend one day per week at the College working towards your qualification.

HOW DO I FIND ANEMPLOYER?You will need to find an employerwilling to take you on as an apprentice.Whilst the College provides a supportservice to help you find an employer,we cannot guarantee you a job.

There are lots of switched onemployers looking for switched onapprentices. A bit of planning andinvestigation will give you the edge.You can start the ball rolling byapplying to companies whilst still atschool, with a view to being taken onas an apprentice once you leave.

They may also want you to do somework experience before leaving school.

HOW DO I APPLY FORJOBS?It looks easy – and it can be if you putin the preparation. If you haven’t hadmuch experience at job hunting don’tworry, the College can help with CVpreparation and interview techniques.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?If you secure a job, the College willwork with you and your employer tobegin your apprenticeship as soon aspossible. If you do not have a job, youshould still apply for an apprenticeshipand we will invite you to attend aninterview. It is a good idea to visit theCollege and come along to one of ouropen evenings.

WHERE WILL I STUDY?Over the last few years we’ve investedmillions of pounds in new facilities forour apprentices.

The new centre in Spennymoor,combined with the new facilities at themain campus, provide an outstandingplace for apprenticeship training.

Natalie Watson, aged 20, fromSpennymoor, left school aftertaking her A Levels and wanted tostep into work straight away.Natalie chose to study a Business Administration Level 2apprenticeship, progressing to Level 3, in order to gain realexperience of the world of work.After securing her apprenticeshipwith Newton Aycliffe based web

company, Design 365, Natalieworked hard in her role, expandingthe search engine optimisationside of the business.She impressed the company ownerso much that after just six monthsNatalie became a full-timeemployee, and is now the AccountManager for the search engineoptimisation side of the business.

SARAH GRAYBTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA LEVEL 3 IN ART & DESIGN(equivalent to three A Levels)Sarah left Bishop Barrington School two years ago with no ambitionsof going to university, but has just qualified from the College with atriple distinction in a Level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts,equivalent to three A Level Grade As.Now the 18-year-old, from Bishop Auckland, is off to study BAPerforming Arts at Cumbria University and hopes to become atelevision or film actress.

Many of our qualified mechanics choose tobecome self-employed and have even taken on apprentices of their own.You will develop your skills and hone your craft in the workplace for four daysper week and spend one day per week being taught by our qualified staff in theCollege’s fully equipped motor vehicle workshops.Entry requirements:• Level 2: Three to four GCSEs at grade A-D including Maths and English.
