Dear Parents and Caregivers,

My name is Miss Lisa O’Malley and it is my great privilege to introduce myself as the

permanently appointed Deputy Principal for Year 3 – 6, at Freshwater State School.

It has been my pleasure to meet the staff and students over the

past few days, and to learn about our wonderful school. I

immediately recognise that I have joined a school community that

is extremely dedicated to the outcomes and wellbeing of its

students, and I am very proud to do so.

Throughout my 12-year leadership career, I have held various

Head of Campus and Head of School positions in both Primary

and P-12 schooling contexts. Most recently, I performed the role of

Acting Deputy Principal at Balaclava State School. Through this

experience I have developed a strong passion for inclusive

education, student wellbeing and student leadership, and am very

excited to be working with the Year 3- 6 students of our school. My

two children are now enrolled at Freshwater State School and are

also excited to be here. I’d like to thank all of the parents and

students that have already made both my children and I feel so

welcome.

I look forward to getting to know you and your family, and to serve the Freshwater school

community into the future.

If you would like to meet with me for any reason, please don’t hesitate to contact the

Administration Office to arrange an appointment.

In the meantime, I’d like to wish you all the very best for a fantastic 2019 school year.

Regards,

Miss Lisa O’Malley Deputy Principal (3-6)

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE OR DIALECT (EAL/D)

Over the past week our teachers have been attending professional learning about the whole school approach to student learning strategy which aligns with Education Queensland’s inclusive education policy. This year we welcome Lisa Garrett as our EAL/D coach who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. Lisa ’s primary role is to support teachers to continue to develop their professional knowledge and skills in responding to the needs of those students who require proficiency in English. Lisa will coach teachers and work with groups of students in their classroom to provide additional support as they learn English, and learn through English. This is the model for support identified in the EAL/D policy and guidelines and is considered best practice. We look forward to watching the growth of EAL/D learners this year.
