SCOIL COLM NEWSLETTER Volume 2, Issue 5 February 22nd 2012 Principal: Ms C Ní Chianáin Deputy Principal: Mr H Maune Dear Friends, I hope that you all had an enjoyable St Patrick’s weekend. The school was a sea of green last Friday when we celebrated our Green Day and, of course, St Patrick’s Day. Ms Watkins is leading the team who are hoping to gain a second Green Flag for our school. During our Green Day, the pupils reminded us all to “switch off” all non- essential sources of energy around the school, such as lights, computers, plugs, etc. Our Confirmation ceremony took place on Tuesday, 13th March in St Agnes’ Church. Ms Coady’s sixth class boys were a credit to the school as they received the sacrament and took part in the ceremony. The choir sang beautifully to accompany the mass. I would like to thank all who helped prepare the Confirmation ceremony. As our Easter Fair approaches on Saturday, 24th March, I would like to warmly invite everyone to the event. It will take place in our main school hall from 11.00 noon to 3.00pm. If you have any unwanted toys, books, games, candles, gifts, etc., in good condition, please donate them for use at our fair. We look forward to seeing you there. May I take this opportunity to wish all of you a happy Easter and thank you for your continued support of our school. Kind regards Claire Ní Chianáin School Closures: The school will close at 12.00 midday on Friday, 30th March for the Easter Holidays. It will re-open at 8.50am on Monday, 16th April.

We made sure the computers were all turned off when they were not being used, we turned off the lights when we could and the photocopying machine was off for most of the day!We hope to get our green flag for being Energy Efficient next year. Our school held an election for our green schools committee. Our green schools committee will promote energy awareness in our school.By Christopher.

We would like to remind students that all Trócaire boxes should be returned to the school next week before the Easter mid term break so that we can pass them on to Trócaire on their behalf.

Scoil Colm Easter Fair

Scoil Colm Parents’ Association are holding an Easter Fair, in Scoil Colm hall, on Saturday 24th March, between 11am and 3pm. There will be lots of exciting things on the day including a toy stall, book stall, clothes stall, cosmetics stall, cake stall, hotdog stand, popcorn machine, Easter eggs, face painting and excellent raffle prizes. A fire engine will visit from Dolphin’s Barn Fire Station. Why not pamper yourself and get your hair or nails done on the day.We are still taking donations of toys, unwanted gifts and any items suitable for the fair or raffle. You can drop these into Scoil Colm any day between 8.50am and 2.30pm. If you would like to bake a cake for our cake stall, you can drop it in on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. It should be a great day. We’re looking forward to seeing you there.

Greyhound Race NightThe recent greyhound race night in The Stoneboat pub was a great success and provided some much needed funds for the general running of the school. The final result/winning combination was: 2-1-4-6-5-3. Congratulations to our winner of the top prize of €500, Michael Conboy, and ticket seller, Lisa Verlin. All-Ireland Final tickets were auctioned off to Anthony O’Keeffe. There was great music & dancing on the night.Well done to Ms Timbs’ 5th Class, who sold the most tickets. They had a well-deserved party afterwards. We would like to thank everybody who supported this event by selling or buying the tickets.

Recently this facility was updated to include each class teachers name who the message is coming from. Please do not reply to these messages as they are computer generated and will not be received by anyone. Thank you.
