Foremployees of biopharmaceuti-cal research and developmentcompany AbbVie Canada, “a

that help address serious diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s,hepatitis C, Parkinson’s and prostatecancer. To help ensure that patientscan benefit from advances in research, the company collaborates with gov-ernments and other organizationsto innovate beyond the drug devel-opment pipeline. “Sustainability ofthe health-care system is of seriousconcern to governments and privateplan sponsors – if wewant patients tobenefit from themost innovative newdrugs, we also need to help improvethe efficiency of the system,” says Mr.Lassignardie.For example, AbbVie Care is a patient

support program that currently hasmore than 35,000 members who re-ceive education about their conditionsas well as services such as medicationhome delivery that are proven tocontribute to successful treatment out-comes. Project360. This is a weekly review tool for employees to share their “gut instinct” on how a project is progressing. If anemployee feels there are potential issues, this weekly review provides a proactive avenue to express concerns to the wholeteam, including management.

Managing with Grace. Flipp Corporation applies “Grace” as a management tool that allows the firm to experience failures butthen reconcile, forgive and move on with no baggage. This facilitates transparency and permits staff to take risks, admit whenthe risks haven’t worked out, and move forward to find a better solution.

Peer Problem Solving. At Royal LePage Performance, employees having difficulty resolving a situation can ask that theproblem be brought to an “agent or management council.” A panel of peers hears issues from both sides and makes a finaldetermination.

Get out of Work Free Cards. Points' version of Monopoly’s get out of jail free cards are awarded by managers to employees foroverachieving on specific goals, or as a discretionary thank-you for exceptional performance. The award? A day off for somewell-deserved R&R!
