    Brethren,

This is my rst message as your Grand Master, and lie

has really changed or me since the beginning o April.

On April 9th I retired rom my ull time position as a

Director o Inormation Technology and Service or the

Long Term aliate o the Saint Barnabas Health Care

System. During my twelve years with the Health Care

System, I gained an insight into the working o Nursing

Homes and Assisted Living acilities which has aided

me in decision making at the Charity Foundation along

    with the entire board.

On April 28th I was installed as Grand Master. I thank

MW John M. Colligas the Installing Master,

MW William H. Berman the Installing Marshal and

MW Douglas R. Policastro the Installing Chaplain, and

once installed RW Glenn T. Visscher took over as theInstalling Marshal. Then Grand Sta or 2011 2012 was

also installed, I deeply appreciate the support that the

sta has aorded me since the installation by attending

many o the personal visits scheduled.

In eect I had two weeks o retirement. Folks who do

not know the depth o my Masonic involvement ask

me what I am going to do to keep busy. For the month

o May I drove over two thousand miles to various

Masonic events. Some o the most rewarding have

been to attend the presentation o Gold Tokens to our

50, 55, 60 and 65 year members. And believe it our

not, awarding a 75 year membership pin to a 102

year old brother in an Assisted Living Residence in

Maplewood. What an honor that was. I also had the

honor o presenting a 50 year token to a brother who

was in a Nursing Home in Northern New Jersey, who

died a week ater the presentation. How glad I was that

we were able perorm these presentations. I have also

spent time attending annual meetings o our apendant

and coordinate bodies, district events, and hopeully

    making it to Lodge meetings.

I am the member o two wonderul Lodges which really

stepped up to the plate to make my reception on May

7th a great success. Over the years o being on a Grand

Sta, you observe the things which work and those

that dont. We had many rehearsals or the Worshipul

Masters and Lodge members participating in the

reception program. I was kept in the dark about all the

gits Betty and I received, and appreciated all o them.

A number o years ago while attending the North

Conerence o Grand Masters and Grand Secretar

was contemplating running or the Grand South.

involved in a discussion with the progressive ele

line regarding the operations o the Masonic Hom

o the statements which were made was during m

as Grand Master; I would most likely be closing t

Masonic Home. I am very proud to report that th

eort o the Masonic Charity Foundation Board o

Directors and support o Springpoint (ormally

Presbyterian Homes) and changes in stang that

are now on stable grounds and that we will be ab

continue supporting our Masonic Home. During

year we have not had to withdraw any monies rour investments to und the Masonic Home, whi

a good sign o our nancial stability.

    Sincerely and Fraternally,

    William L. Morris, Jr.

    unior grand Wardens MessageBrethren,

As I sit down to composemy rst article or theFreemason as your newlyelected Junior GrandWarden I am struck bymany emotions, sheer joyand satisaction at theresults o the electionwhich is nally beginningto sink in. A Past GrandMaster told me that weeksdown the road, I would

e sitting somewhere not thinking about anything inarticular and it would hit me, I am the Junior Grand

Warden. He certainly knew what he was talking aboutecause thats exactly how it happened. I am also struck

ith the awesome responsibility that goes with thele. I will never orget the trust you have placed in me.

When I think about my new position, I also think aboutline rom the installation that goes as ollows, the brieuthority (I dont know i you consider our years brie)hich you are about to exercise springs only rom theody o masonry and you owe to those whose git it isour utmost eorts to preserve peace, love and unitymong them. Another piece rom the installationremony that I eel is pertinent to my position stateshat as some o us must o necessity rule and teachothers must, o course, learn to submit and obey.

umility in both is an essential duty. I will never orgete aith and trust you have placed in me and there willways be humility as I perorm the duties o my oce.

he Grand Masters advice to me, ater the election,as this is a year to observe and learn. Brethren, I

am doing just that. I have spent the last year travelingaround the state raising awareness o the great workbeing done in the ve Childrens dyslexia centers. Inthat time, I visited many lodges and was able to meetmany brethren on the level and get their eelings andthoughts about our beloved raternity. I have developeda vision or our uture involving an increased senseo raternalism, a continued improvement o thedisconnect between the rank and le mason and theGrand Lodge, the improvement o retention and moreinvolvement o our amilies. As I travel the state, whichI used to think was small, I seek your input as to howto best achieve these goals. Brethren, I again thankyou or you trust and support. I look orward tomeeting you in my travels. May the Grand Architecto the Universe bless you, our Fraternity, and ourgreat country.

March 27 & April 10, 2011Recently I had the opportunity and privilege to accompanyWB Elmer Potter as he represented the Grand Master,

Joseph H. Rival Jr. and Grand Lodge at Eagle Scout Courto Honor ceremonies, on two Sunday aternoons March27 and April 10, 2011. At the rst event, WB Potter, PMNavesink Lodge # 9 17 Masonic District and hisentourage, WB Michael Carducci Master o NavesinkLodge # 9 and RW William Stryker Grand Chaplainattended the Court honoring Thomas Andrew Zak oTroop 180, Englishtown. The second Court was inrecognition o Evan Guastaerro o Troop 92, Hazlet.WB Potter as the Grand Masters envoy to the Boy Scoutso Monmouth County dutiully attends a number othese events each year. Well known in and about the 17thDistrict as an accomplished Masonic Ritualist, BrotherElmer, has now been revealed as an accomplished BoyScout himsel, having received his rank o Eagle Scoutin 1940. At each Court he participated in all the scoutingceremonies and retook the Eagle oath along with the

other Eagles in attendance. Brother Potter spoke eloquentlyto the assembly o Scouts, local dignitaries, parents andriends, drawing parallels between the two brotherhoods, specically stressing dedication to God, country, neighborhood and amily and clearly outlining thepurpose and dedication o Freemasonry to the valuesand virtues espoused by both. WB Elmer Potters actionsand dedication refect strongly and positively upon theCrat. Well done Brother Elmer!

I was asked to share a ewthoughts with you tonight. I toldGary I needed at least a hal hourbut he said to keep it brie so Iwill get right to the point. Thebest way I know how to do thisas an educator is.....the pencil.

When we think about our ownschool days, one o the rstimages we conjure up is that othe pencil. The tube o woodcontaining a slender strip ographite and an eraser cappedend allowed us to write anddraw. Think back to the joys ound in the pencil as ourthoughts and ideas fowed reely onto paper and cameto lie beore us in word and/or picture orm. Coloredpencils made our images so vivid we couldnt containour enthusiasm as we rushed to share our nishedproduct with a classmate, teacher, or parent. There weretimes when the point would become dull and need tobe sharpened. And many o us recall math problemsor perhaps book reports which caused us to whittlethe eraser down to the metal ring that held it in place, and although we might have begrudged the process welearned rom making those mistakes.

Our children are like those pencils we remember ondly. They are bursting with ideas and dreams, many owhich will shape the world we know it. They color thelives they touch with the rainbow that bursts orth romthem when they are inspired and empowered. Sure, their points may become dull and need resharpening or

    mistakes may be made anderasing.

I believe this is the greatestset beore educators today. our job to help our young plearn how to sharpen themto see their strengths and thtake those strengths out to with others. They need to btaught not to be araid o mater all they are equipped wan eraser, and oten our gregrowth as individuals comewhen we learn rom our miThe children o today will njust need to know how to bsel-refective in order to

their own mistakes but willto be problem solvers and creative thinkers in ordbegin to try to move orward rom the mistakes twill inherit rom others. We need to be the adultsrun to when they are ready to share the pictures words that encapsulate their dreams. Think o thdreams that have fowed orth rom a pencil, or pand shaped our country and world with great im

Freemasons and educators truly have much in coas we believe our greatest calling is to reach out atouch the lives o others - to help the pencils thatour lives nd vivid color, sharper points, and a vbeyond the mistakes that oten cripple them.

I am a quote collector and so would like to closequote rom Mother Theresa, I am a little pencil ihand o a writing God who is sending a love lettethe world.

At the annual communication o the Grand Lodge, theBrethren voted to nance the restoration o the LowerBallroom in the Historic Trenton Masonic Temple. OnSunday June 26th over 30 Brothers met in the GrandLodge Building or the rst work party o this project.Although eight hours were set aside or the removal othe old carpet and wallpaper, the project was completedin less than our hours. Ater lling a 30 yard dumpster,Mercer Lodge treated all inattendance to italian hotdogs. Now that this 60 by100 room is cleaned out, we

will move to the next phase. In July, several Brothers, whoare proessional buildingcontractors, will lay out theconstruction schedule timeline. Almost the entire projectis being done by Brothersvolunteering their servicesor our raternity. This isallowing us to restore thisballroom to its originalsplendor at an aordable

    price. There will most likely

be a ew more work parties scheduled over the next

ew months. I you werent able to be with us or therst phase I hope you will consider lending a hand aswe proceed. Knowing that you can always count on theBrethren o New Jersey to step up when asked is a trueblessing and I thank you or that.
