“My obligation is to build the best houses I can, both from a design and a construction perspective,” he con-tinued. “That’s what this project deserves. This home is super cool and was fun to design. It has amazing features both inside and out.”

The Avanti is a ranch floorplan in Colorado mountain-modern style. Through the private entry courtyard, you’ll find about 5,000 finished square feet of living space, in-cluding five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. The master bath and laundry have heated tile floors, and the master bath features a free-standing soaking tub. Each of the bedrooms is en suite, with its own private bath and walk-in closet. “You can give teens, or guests, or other family members their own space,” Rust said. “If folks come to stay with you during the big golf tournament, you’re all set for that type of living.”

With space for three cars, the garages are split with two on one side of the home and one on the other. Both spaces are heated with epoxy floors. The kitchen features European-style cabinets, Miele appliances, quartz coun-tertops and tile.

Security and home-automation systems, smart wir-ing and speakers throughout the home and a basement projection TV room with surround sound will ensure the technology-lover is at home here. You’ll find ceiling detail work throughout, including beams and coffered ceilings, along with decorative and functional details in just about every space.

Other amenities include a wet bar and a wine cave, along with the perfect special touch for those drawn here by TPC Colorado – a golf simulator room. Take your warm-up swings right in your own home, whether that’s before dawn or late at night. Work on your game all winter long in the cozy confines of your own basement to prep for spring league play or just your regular outing with co-workers, clients, family or friends.

As warmer weather comes to Northern Colorado, one of the hottest neighborhoods in the area is Heron Lakes on the northwest

side of Berthoud. If you love nature, views, staying active, golf and quality luxury homes, this is the place for you.

You can move in quickly if you appre-ciate the care, planning and effort that Lifestyle Custom Homes has put into 2702 Bluewater Road. It not only puts you in the lap of luxury, it blurs the line between vacation and home, as the developer likes to say. With a bevy of recreational oppor-tunities, lake and mountain views, and a variety of wildlife as your neighbors, your dream home haven is just minutes from the rest of the northern Front Range and Denver.

With a lot in “The Rookery,” a gated section of Heron Lakes on the south end of the development, golf membership is included with the home. On the edge of Lonetree Reservoir, you’ll be close to the trees where the great blue herons nest.

Lifestyle Custom Homes owner Ed Rust is as excited as anyone about Heron Lakes. “I’m extremely happy and honored to have the opportunity to build here,” he said. “This will be a crown jewel for Northern Colorado. It’s just a special place.

ON THE JOBThe Centers for Gastroenterology was founded in 2007, after several practices in Northern Colorado combined into one. They now have office locations in Fort Collins, Greeley and Loveland, and provide hospital services for Medical Center of the Rockies, Poudre Valley Hospital, UCHealth Greeley Hospital, McKee Medical Center and the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESSMost people’s first encounter with a gastroenterologist is for the all-important colonoscopy screening. Current guidelines generally advise starting the screening at age 50, although those with a family history of colon cancer are advised to begin sooner, says Dr. Crystal North, physician with the Centers for Gastroenterology.

“Most patients with colon cancer don’t have any symptoms until it is very advanced,” says North. “I commonly hear ‘I don’t have any symptoms, so why should I get a colonoscopy?’ I tell them, ‘You get your oil checked, right? Why do you do that? To prevent prob-lems, right?’ Colon cancer is one of the only preventable cancers.”

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death and is expected to cause 51,000 deaths in 2019. The very temporary inconvenience of a colo-noscopy is well worth reducing the risk of colon cancer, North adds. Gastroen-terologists performing the procedure

catch cancer before it even starts by removing precancerous polyps.

Patients who have had trouble with the bowel prep in the past should dis-cuss with their gastroenterologist, says North. “We have lots of tips and tricks to help.”

In addition to colonoscopies, their locations offer upper endoscopies, which are performed for such ailments as heartburn, chronic reflux, problems swallowing, stomach ulcers and celiac disease. PillCam is another option for patients, where a pill-shaped camera is ingested to help determine locations for bleeding in the small intestine. Select locations perform manometries as well (pressure testing of the esophagus for conditions such as problems swallowing, 24-hour pH study of the esophagus for acid reflux symptoms, and manometry of the anal sphincter muscles for fecal incontinence).

The Centers is also proud to be a leader in infusion therapy, offering services in their Loveland location. This treatment for patients with Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis provides relief from the disease’s painful symptoms.

CLAIM TO FAMEFive of the practice’s 14 physicians are women, an impressive number when compared with the national average of only 17 percent of female gastroenterol-ogists in this male-dominated specialty.

Not only that, the Centers’ physicians have been practicing in Northern Colo-

rado longer than any other gastroenter-ology practice, says North.

THIS JUST IN…The Centers for Gastroenterology is committed to serving Northern Colora-do, which is why it will add a new, state-of-the-art, free standing endoscopy center in Greeley, set to open in January of 2020. “There are no other options currently in Weld County for highest quality, lower cost, ambulatory endos-copy,” says North, noting that insurance companies are increasingly mandating patients receive their endoscopic care in an outpatient setting because of the lower cost. “Now, patients will be able to stay close to home for these services, instead of traveling to our other endos-copy centers.”
