CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

ISBE McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program

OPENING DOORS

> Are you aware of which children and youth are homeless in your district, school and classroom?

> Do you know how you can provide support for their continued academic progress?

Learn about the law and ways to provide educational stability to homeless children and unaccompanied youth covered by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act.

Sessions will be offered throughout the conference

Early childhood education is an important part of the educational continuum in Illinois and provides the basis for a student’s successful educational career. A strand of sessions focusing on early childhood education will be offered throughout the conference, but there will be a strong focus on Tuesday, February, 13, 2018. Many presentations will emphasize what K-12 educators should know about pre-school programs.

Illinois Association of Title I Directors (IATD) MeetingIATD members and prospective members are invited to a meeting at 4:15 p.m. following the concurrent sessions on Monday, February 12th. IATD works closely with ISBE to

> Create forums for interaction, communication and discussion with districts of all sizes;

> Make available human and technical resources that help Directors answer questions;

> Provide opportunities for continuing professional development on the latest research topics; and

> Provide opportunities for Title I Directors to discuss and have input into education issues.

Special Sessions On The ESSA State PlanThe Illinois State Board of Education has been moving ahead on the

Every Student Succeeds Act State Plan. Come hear the highlights and learn about next steps for ESSA for districts, schools and students.

Because of the importance of this topic to all Illinois educators, an informational session led by ISBE staff will be offered.

PLAN TO PARTICIPATE IN ONE OF THESE IMPORTANT SESSIONS!

An Evening at the Theater In an era before Twitter and eHarmony, two of history’s oddest couples seek to thaw the seemingly intractable relationship between the United States and Soviet Russia. Despite their advisors’ efforts to keep them on track, Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev eschew conventional protocols to discuss pop culture and old movies—while their wives mirror their husbands’ negotiations in a passive- aggressive tango over tea and fashion choices. A compelling and edgily comic journey through the dizzying intricacies of statesmanship.

Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 7:30 PMGoodman Theater Tickets: $35 each including handling.

Note: Tickets are limited for this event. They are intended for conference attendees only and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
