Celebrate Freedom Week During the last full week of September, we recognize Celebrate Freedom Week. Our students will read the following from the Declaration of Independence each day. As a challenge, they will (voluntarily) attempt to recite it, without notes, on Fri. “We hold these truths to be self- evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The guest author and speaker is Dr. J. Michael Francis. This event is geared to adults, but some of our budding writers may enjoy hearing Dr. Francis talk about his work. At- Home Projects Beginning the second grading period, on Oct. 20, students will have their first at-home project assignment. Ample time will be given for completion. I value your home time, and will assign no more than one required project each month. Florida Heritage Book Festival at Flagler College

At- Home Projects

Beginning the second grading period, on Oct. 20, students will have their first at-home project assignment. Ample time will be given for completion. I value your home time, and will assign no more than one required project each month. Students are always encouraged to do more, though, and may choose from those on the enrichment/extensions page, or discuss a topic they would like to pursue and present.

Tues., Sept. 22-PE, Day E, with Coach Allen, 1:45-2:30

Wed., Sept. 23-WOW-Music with Ms. Height and TOT with Coach Allen (team members only/wear sneakers), 9:25-10:05

Thurs., Sept. 24-Music, Day A, with Ms. Height, 1:45-2:30

Homework-Week of Sept. 21-25, 2015

Reading/L.A.-Students read for 20 minutes from an appropriate AR book. The first goal is to reach at least 10 AR points by Oct. 16.

Writing-Students write in the nightly journal. The calendar on the back of the blue folder provides the writing topic for each evening. Due Fri.

Spelling-Students practice the current word list: beach, coach bench, mulch, lunch, patch, crutch, ditch, watch, scratch.

*Math-Optional, but encouraged-Practice online in Math Facts in a Flash and TenMarks.

Two students received recognition for completing addition in MFIAF: Max and Graham. They each received their backpack charm and chain.

AVID Intake Conferences

Conferences will begin on Wed., Sept. 23. If you have not yet responded to your invitation, please review the available dates and times in Sign-Up Genius. Those who’ve already signed up will receive a reminder message the day before your appointment.

Johnny Appleseed Day

Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) was born on Sept. 26. On Fri., Sept. 25, students will learn about his life and sample a variety of apples.

AR News

The class is moving forward in their reading, and I’m proud of their perseverance. Twelve students have met or passed the current quarter goal of 10 points, and the remaining five are on their way to reaching it.
