    Five Towns College offers summer graduate courses in MusicEducation, Music Technology and Childhood Education taught by

    our outstanding faculty. You may earn your Masters Degree inMusic (M.M.) or Masters in Education (M.S. Ed.) over the courseof three Summers or less.

    You can study this Summer taking 3 credit courses in one week orthree week sessions. You can also stay in our affordable on-campusresidence life facilities. Each room is air-conditioned, has internetaccess, cable TV and a private bathroom. These accommodationsare not only affordable but outstanding.

    Advanced level course involving the use of Sibelius music notation softwarepre K-12 music educators. Students wil l learn how to input music using an electrkeyboard and computer and to print out musical scores and parts for individ

    players. Topics include: recording (entering) and editing music, page layout adesign for various types of musical ensembles, incorporation of notation examinto other documents.

    EDU 524 TI:ME 2B DIGITAL MEDIA

    3 Credits 3 Class hoursPrerequisite: TI:ME Level One certification or equivalent experience.

    Digital Media (TI:ME 2B) covers the creation of multimedia files which mayintegrated into Internet and multimedia projects, computer programs or which mstand alone as educational products (videos, CDs, audio tapes, etc.). Teachers complete this course will develop multimedia in every area including text, graphsound and video. The materials developed will be appropriate for music instruc

    in the K-12 classroom. Software to be used in the class will include programscreating and editing text, graphics, sound and video. A multimedia presentaprogram will be used to tie elements together.

    TI:ME courses described below are held in the new state-of-the-art

    laboratory. Special certificates are issued together with College creditupon completion of course work.

    Maximum enrollment is 16 students per class.

    This course may be taken separately or its content may be integrated into oTI:ME courses. The format of the course will alternate presentations with cactivities in which student progress is assessed and in which the material preseis reinforced. Evaluation will be through written homework assignments, compleof class assignments and the submission of a final project demonstrating techniqlearned in class.Completion of one TI:ME 2B course meets one third of the requirements for LTwo TI:ME Certification.

    ON LINE CLASSES

    Students interested in taking online classes must register in advance so that theirBlackboard user names and passwords are properly setup for the required orientationmeeting that takes place on campus with the instructor on the first day of the class.The orientation meeting usually lasts no more than one hour and will review basicinformation on course access and course requirements. A second required on-campus

    appearance is required by the student to take the final examination. All onlinestudents must be computer literate and able to access their course regularly.Out-of-state students may take the final exam, with prior approval, under proctoredconditions off-campus, for example at a library or recognized test center.

    LibraryThe Five Towns College Library is an outstanding resource for students andfaculty use alike. It is also utilized by other libraries and researchers fromaround the world seeking information about various disciplines for which itholds specialized collections. Library holdings include collections of nearly33,000 books, more than 400 periodical subscriptions and approximately9,000 sound recordings. The collection includes over 2,500 score/arrangements,several thousand pieces of sheet music and a growing collection of morethe 2,000 video recordings on VHS and DVD. The Five Towns College Libraryincludes a variety of outstanding onl ine subscript ion databases, includingthe International Index of Music Periodicals, EBSCO, ProQuest, Gale Literature

    Resource Center, the Kraus Curriculum Development Library (KCDL Online),Blooms Literature Reference, Grove Music Online, Naxos Music Library andWilson Web.

    The Library provides students with the latest information technology.Representative resources include T-3 connections to the Internet, onlinecatalog, Macintosh and PC computer workstations, music listening stations,DVD and other multi-media players. The Five Towns College Library is affiliatedwith the Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC). Through LILRCsInterlibrary and Research Loan Programs, Five Towns College students andfaculty have access to additional materials housed in libraries throughoutthe world. Staffed by professional librarians, the Library is a major resource forcurriculum and instruction at the College.

    Keyboard LabThe Keyboard Laboratory contains electronic piano keyboards and is for the teaching of functional piano skills. The Keyboard Lab is open convenient schedule to facilitate student practice and progress. Additkeyboards are available for student use in the Music Education ReseCenter located in the Five Towns College Library.

    The College theatre provides the space and opportunity for a wide vaof cultural performances. The theatre may provide students withopportunity to perform, act and sing.

    Dining FacilitiesThe Upbeat Caf is located adjacent to the College Theatre. This dining

    facility is open daily Sunday evening through Friday afternoon andserves a wide assortment of hot and cold meals.

    Recreational ActivitiesOn campus recreational activities include the use of a weight room,a pool table, ping pong table and a gymnasium. Off-Campus activitiesduring the evenings or weekends include going to New York City, theHamptons, Jones Beach or Montauk Point. You will enjoy the many fineRestaurants and shopping on Long Island or New York City duringyour free time.

    HousingThe Living/Learning Center is a complex of four residence halls. Eachbuilding has a variety of single and double rooms, Internet access,cable TV and air conditioning. A minimum mandatory meal plan isrequired. Students interested in on-campus living must file a separatehousing application. The cost of this 5 day room plan is $250.

    Meals are NOT included.

    If additional time is needed to stay on weekends from Friday night toSunday afternoon there is an additional charge of $100. If a graduatestudent were to stay 3 consecutive weeks in the residence life halls,you would pay $950 from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon.If you calculate, three weeks at $250 and 2 weekends at $100, this costbecomes $950. There is no linen service and you would be responsibleto provide your own towels, sheets, blankets and pillows.

    Personal items such as computers, musical instruments & televisionsets are your responsibility if you care to bring them to the campus.In addition to the charge for room and board, there is a refundablesecurity deposit (using a separate credit card) of $300, providingthere is no damage to your room.     II. Request for Housing

    The cost of housing is $325 per session which includes meals. $100 additional for Friday night, Saturday and Sundayafternoon, where no food will be served. Example: Staying 3 weeks plus weekends would be $1,175.
