What is the First Year Intervention Program? (FYI) The First Year Intervention Program (FYI) is an early alert

program designed to identify and help students in their first year at UMBC who are struggling academically.

Since its inception over 20 years ago, the FYI program has evolved to better serve the UMBC population: Faculty now send alerts directly to first-year students,

rather than submitting them to our office. Faculty may send alerts to students who are not in their

first year.

FYI—How you can help Faculty participation is key to this program.

By sending alerts early, students have more time to seek help and improve their grades.

By sending alerts before the final drop deadline, students can withdraw from classes they may have otherwise failed.

Students are encouraged to follow up with faculty
