    enables Ethernet,

    Sub-E1 and Serial

Services over E1FCD -E1E is a m anaged access unit that

converts rates and interfaces for E1 and

    fractional E1 services.

    FCD -E1E features a serial n × 64 kbps data

user interface, and/or an Ethernet LAN

interface to allow LAN -to-LAN connectivity

    over TD M m edia.

The unit interconnects w ith RAD’s m odular

D XC (D ACS) products and E1 equipm ent

from other vendo rs, to suppo rt m ultilink

star applications such as access to SD H

netw orks, FCD , and M egaplex un its.

The E1 interface is com patible w ith

    virtually all carrier-provided E1 services

and m eets ITU recom m end ations G.70 3,

    G.704 , G .70 6, G .73 2, G .82 3, and G .82 6.

FCD-E1EM anaged E1 and Fractional E1 Access Device

FCD -E1E supports both 2 and 1 6 fram es

    per m ultifram e, w ith o r w ithout CRC-4.

    The E1 interface also accepts a 20 48-kbps

data stream and converts it to an ITU -TRec. G.703 unfram ed signal for transpo rt

over the E1 m ain link and sublink. Line

    code is H D B3/AM I. The integral LTU

ensures a range of up to 2 km (1.2 m iles)

    and is softw are selectable.

The optional sub-E1 po rt can be

configured to w ork w itho ut CRC-4, w hile

    the E1 m ain link is w orking w ith CRC-4.

E1 equipm ent no t supporting CR C-4 can

thus connect to an E1 netw ork that does

    w ork w ith CRC-4.

Bypassing the sub-E1 po rt to the m ain linken sures uninterrupted service to the

sub-E1 po rt and full im m unity to h ardw are

    and pow er failure.

The unit can be configured to assign data

from the data po rt into consecutive

tim eslots or the user can assign tim eslots

m anually.M ultiple clock source selection ensures

m axim um flexibility. Tim ing for the E1

m ain link and sublink m ay com e from the

    recovered receive clock, an internal

    oscillator, or the data port.

An op tion al 10 /10 0B aseT Ethernet port

can be ordered for m anagem ent, w ith or

    w itho ut bridge functionality.

N ote The de vices o rigina lly o rde red w ith

m anagem ent on ly function ality (/U TPM ) can b e

upgraded to the /UTP (bridge an d m anage m ent)

functionality by ordering a sp ecial softw are license

    key (see O rdering ).

Front-panel LED s indicate pow er, alarm s,

    and diagnostic loopback operation. Rear

panel LED s on the E1 interfaces indicate

local and rem ote sync loss. Rear-panelLED s on the optional Ethernet po rt

    indicate link integrity and activity.

FCD -E1E is available in tw o m odels:

    •  Plastic enclosure (FCD -E1E)

    •  M etal enclosure w ith LCD and

    push-buttons on the front panel

    (FCD -E1E/L).

Bo th enclosures can be m ounted alone or

    in pairs in a 1 9-inch rack using R AD’s

optional rack m oun t kits (see O rdering ).

    USER INTERFACES

The FCD -E1E un it features the follow ing

    user interfaces:

    •  Serial data interfaces: V.24/RS-232,

    V.35, V.36/RS-449, RS-530, X.21

    •  Ethernet 10/100BaseT LA N interface.

The synchron ous data po rts of FCD -E1E

operate in the follow ing clock m odes:

    •  D CE: FCD -E1E provides both transm it

and receive clocks to the user

equipm ent, w ith optional sam pling of

the incom ing data w ith an inverted

    clock

    •  D TE1 : FCD -E1E provides the receive

clock, w hile the tran sm it clock isprovided by the attached user

equipm ent (no t for X.21 and V.24)

    •  D TE2: The rem ote user equipm ent

provides both transm it and receive

clocks (not for X.21 and V.24).

The optional bridge port is a standard

    10/100BaseT half/full-duplex po rt

    featuring autonegotiation and autom atic

    crossover support. Its interface supports

VLA N fram es, autom atic learning and

aging. The bridge port tran sparently

connects FCD-E1E to rem ote LAN s over E1

links. It filters Ethernet fram es and

forw ards only fram es that are destined for

    the W AN .

    MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE

Status and diagnostic inform ation is

defined, configured, and m onitored using

any of the follow ing m ethods:

    •  M enu-driven m anagem ent using the

front panel LCD w ith three

    pushbuttons (m etal enclosure only)

    •  ASCII term inal con nected to the async

    control port

    •  Telnet (only w ith optional Ethernet

    port)

    •  RA D View elem ent m anager (only w ith

    optional Ethernet port).

    U p to 204 8 tim e-stam ped alarm s can be

retrieved through the supervision term inal.

    M aintenan ce capabilities include

user-activated local and rem ote loopbacks

on the E1 m ain link, sublink, and data port.

The user can activate a BER test on the

    m ain link o r sublink.

E1 netw ork statistics are stored in

m em ory, according to IETF RFC480 5.

Statistical inform ation can be retrieved

    locally through the control port.

FCD -E1E perform s VLAN tagging and

    priority labeling according to IEEE

    80 2.1p& Q (enh anced Q oS, suppo rting

    strict/w eighted fair queue m echanism ,

    w ith 802.1p/D SCP/IP Preceden ce priority).

The un it perform s rate lim iting (egress and

    ingress).
