Who We Are...
Bal Swan Children’s Center specializes in the highest quality early childhood education in Broomfield as noted by Qualistar and our partnerships with Pyramid Plus and the University of Colorado. Our innovative
programming blends children with challenges with typical peers in a fully inclusive environment. Thirty percent of our students have a variety of disabilities and seventy percent are typically developing
preschoolers. Some of our more notable services are our degreed teachers, low ratios, four on‐site play‐grounds, warm water pool, weekly music program, dance & movement program, staff psychologist for
family counseling, family workshops and parenting classes, and our vast range of therapy services which include group therapy classes. We have been a non‐profit since 1963 and have historic community
support. In fact, one‐third of our tuition is subsidized by our community. During the school year, we serve ages two through six in our Toddler, Preschool, and Kindergarten Enrichment programs, offering half day and full day schedules. Throughout the summer we offer programs for up to age twelve. For
more information or to visit our center, please call 303‐466‐6308. We welcome you to be part of our Bal Swan family!

Towards the end of the winter snow runoff, the river is not that deep so it makes it great for kids. Plus the river bottom is all soft sand and the river actually pulses like waves! This is as close as you can get to the ocean in Colorado! Bring your sand and water toys for a fun in the sun and water kind of day. Camping is available nearby.

Section 6
“Anywhere Activities” Family fun activities that can be done in your
backyard, living room, etc. Pretend it’s Winter: On an especially hot summer day when it seems like it’s too hot to even go
outside, our family likes to pretend it’s winter. We get some plastic paper plates (plastic works better than paper), step on them, and “skate” on the carpet. We even put on some holiday music and drink hot cocoa! Some years we’ve frozen snowballs in the freezer during the winter (keep in plastic bags so they don’t dry out too much) and get them out in the heat of the summer and have a snowball fight in the backyard!
Create and Imagine Box: We have a big plastic tub (or use a basket) where we put odds and ends as they appear in our house (e.g. milk jug tops, spare buttons, paper towel rolls). When the kids seem bored and in need of a project, we send them to the “Create and Imagine Box” with some glue and markers. We have fun seeing what they can create from the things in the box.
I Spy: This is a fun activity while waiting in a restaurant, traffic jam, or even while traveling down the highway. One person starts off by saying, “I spy with my little eye something that’s...” and then describes something they see. For example, something that’s red, some‐thing that’s round, some‐thing that you eat. Other family members try to guess.
43
Camping in the Living Room: We did this for the first time when we had a power outage because the kids were afraid of not having any lights on in the house. It was such a hit we have done it even without the outage. Put a large sheet over your kitchen/dining room table OR over some tall chairs and pretend that’s your tent. Have dinner in your tent. Turn off the lights and have fun with flashlights. You can also build “forts” in any room in your house. It’s fun to have a secret “room within a room” where you can read, play and sleep.
Glitter Pinecones: Gather some pinecones of all shapes and sizes. Have children roll them in liquid glue and then roll in glitter. Let them dry. After the glitter dries, you can glue on sequins, jewels, etc. and you’ll have mini Christmas trees!
Dolly Parton Imagination Library: Free books for Broomfield and Boulder county families! Contact: Foothills United Way at (303) 444‐4013.
Decorate a Holiday Box: Before putting away your holiday decorations (winter, Easter, Valentines, Halloween, etc.), ask your child/children to draw something on the lid of the box related to that particular holiday. Have them draw on a new box lid every year. It is so much fun to see how the drawings progress year to year and makes getting out the decorations such fun! If you use plastic boxes to store your decorations, you can have them draw on a sheet of paper and then tape the drawing it to the lid.
