INFORMATIONS OF THE COURSE PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY

The information is intended for regular third-year students of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad - the integrated study of medicine.

This guide contains basic information about the course, information of the total hours number, the organization of theoretical and practical teaching, the curriculum, the list of histological and macroscopic preparation, informations of taking exams, exam questions and a list of basic and supplementary textbooks.

We believe that this type of information will help students to master knowledge successfully related to this course and studies in general.

III. PRACTICAL TEACHING PROGRAM

Practical taeching of the course will be held in all of the above teaching facilities according to the plan:

- 5 hours per week during the winter semester - 3 hours per week during the summer semester.

Histological diagnostics During the semester, students attend the exercises of histological diagnostics based on

schedule that is published under the general schedule for students of Medicine in English. These exercises are held in the microscopy hall at the Department of Pathology and Histology

at the first floor of the Medical Faculty in Novi Sad. Introductory lessons for histological exercises are performed in the hall for microscopy at the

Department of Pathology and Histology at the first floor of Medicine. Students are required to wear white laboratory coats during practical teaching.

From the academic year 2015/2016, the teaching of histopathological diagnosis is performed on computers with scanned histological slides, which will allow interactive teaching and easier way to master the subject matter of this type of diagnosis. Department believes that the introduction of digital microscopic diagnosis is of great importance to the improvement and modernization of the teaching of pathological anatomy. This type of instruction will allow students to review and practice all slides throughout the year so there is no need for performing the pre-examination exercises.

Macroscopic diagnostics - MUSEUM GROSS PREPARATIONS

During the winter and summer semester, students attend the exercises of the macroscopic (gross) diagnostics during one hour per week according to schedule that is published as general schedule for students of Medicine.

These exercises are held in the hall for macroscopic preparations of the Department of Pathology and Histology on the first floor of the Medical Faculty in Novi Sad.

Students demonstrate the museum preparations with a special request for independent active work in the description and diagnosis of the preparation.

Students are able to review the museum preparations freely.

AUTOPSY During the school year, students will be self-divided in small groups in order to attend the autopsy. Autopsies are obligatory. During the school year, student must attend at least two autopsies (1 located in Novi Sad and one located in Sremska Kamenica) without which student will not be able to get the signature at the end of school year.

After students attend a complete autopsy, they will be signed in the index (for this section of practical teaching).

Students are trained to observe morphological changes, especially by the ways of thinking and reasoning in pathology and to form an autopsy conclusion.

Informations about the autopsies in Sremska Kamenica are available on weekdays and Saturdays at 7.30 at telephone 480-5322 and in Novi Sad at telephone 484-3313 from 8:00 am.

FINAL EXAM PRE-EXAM STUDENT ACTIVITIES Continuous verification and evaluation of the pre-exam activities of students include: - Regular attendance at lectures, - Regular attendance and active participation in exercises / review and evaluation of knowledge on each exercise, - Attendance at autopsies, - One colloquium for microscopic preparations, and one colloquium for macroscopic preparations at the end of the school year in the last two weeks of summer semester, - Theoretical test at the end of the summer semester. 1.1. Regular attendance at lectures The presence to the theoretical lectures is the statutory obligation.

1.2. EXERCISES

Students regularly attend and actively participate in the histological and macroscopic exercises with checking and obtaining points, or evaluation of knowledge on each exercise.

During the two last week of practical training at the end of the summer semester, the student MUST take the colloquiums from microscopic and macroscopic exercises. At the practical part of the exam, the student must have a minimum of theoretical knowledge which can explain the lesions recognized on microscopic slides and museum preparations.

During the last two exercises in the summer semester students take the practical exams that include: - colloquium for microscopic preparations, which includes diagnosis and description of three slides (which then have to be explained orally to the teacher). For passing exam, 2 slides have to be correctly described. - colloquium for museum gross (macroscopic) preparations comprising 2 macroscopic description that also have to be explained orally to the teacher. For passing exam, 2 preparations have to be correctly described.

The teacher has the right to ask the theoretical questions related to the pathological changes present in the preparations.

If student does not pass the preliminary exams, student will take the practical exam during the official examination period starting from the June exam period of the current year.

Both microscopic and gross practical colloquia are graded (6 to 10), and signed in the index. Passed practical exam is valid forever!

1.3. THEORETICAL COLLOQUIUM

Students must take the theoretical test at the end of summer semester from General and Special Pathology.

The theoretical test is eliminatory and has 40 questions. The minimum number of points for passing is 60% correct answers which carries 24 points. Test is also graded 6 to 10.

Passed test is valid forever! The test results are published on the same day on official website of Medical faculty. It is

possible to see the test after published results, at time and place that will be published with test results.

Passed theoretical test and two practical exams (Microscope and Macroscopic) are a prerequisite for taking the final oral exam.

Students who did not take those exams or did not pass in pre-examination period will have the opportunity to pass them during the regular examination periods starting from the June period of the current school year. Place and time of the tests will be at the website of the Medical faculty and the notice board at the Department of Pathology and Histology at the first floor of the Medical Faculty in Novi Sad. 2. FINAL ORAL EXAM

The student may take the oral part of the exam after the certified VI semester, obtaining the signatures from teachers in the index and passing all partial components within the pre-examination student activities.

Student can not take the final oral exam unless he did not pass all three partial exams (test, macroscope, microscope).

Oral examination shall be provided in examination periods according to the Statute of the School of Medicine Department of the Faculty of publication at the beginning of the school year and in line with the adopted Ordinance on examination at the Medical School.

Final oral exam from lectures consists of four questions, and two questions are from the General Pathology and two questions are from the special pathology. In case of constrained assessment, examiners have discretion to set additional questions from the overall curriculum.

After theoretical test, students must sign on the list enrolled at the hall of Histology and Pathology Department, and select the desired date of examination. Department will try to meet the wishes of students (in the range of +/- 2 to 3 days).

For the oral exam, students 'electe teachers' by drawing cards with the names of examiners randomly on the day of the exam.

Department of Pathology has a common criterion that a candidate must give a positive answer to each of the four theoretical questions for a positive assessment.

Taking the test, preliminary exams from the practical part of teaching and / or oral exam have to be confirmed 72 hours (Saturday and Sunday do not count) before by leaving signatures to the Secretary of the Department (first floor of the Medical faculty - Department of Pathology and Histology).

Time and place of the test and the theoretical exam stands out in a timely manner on the bulletin board of the Department for Pathology and Histology and on the website of the Medicine Faculty specifically for each examination period.
