HW Due today

On p. 26-27, complete #28-30; 43-44.TEST on Ch. 2 on Monday Nov. 4

HW assigned today

Please RE-DO/ RE-CHECK #28-30; 43-44, BASED ON THE MATH SKILLS we practice in today’s Do Now. ALSO – do the 4 math problems in your POGIL! (#25-28) We are rapidly reviewing these next class. Upcoming Tasks: Food Drive (Nov. 13) and Test (Nov. 4 )

Do Now: Take your study guide & clicker. Then, WRITE DOWN and SOLVE the following question: In 5 seconds a car moving in a straight line increases its speed from 50 km/h to 65 km/h, while a truck takes 7 seconds to go from rest to 14 km/h (in a straight line). Which has the larger acceleration?

Extra Credit• Food Drive – all items due by November 13! NO EXCEPTIONS.• All items must be NON PERISHABLE

– Able to still be good/fresh etc. after being in this box for over a month

– +2 for each BOXED GOOD (feeds multiple people)– +1 for each CANNED GOOD (feeds 1 person)

• While the amount of food items you donate is NOT capped, the extra credit will be capped at 8 points per student

• Extra credit is applied towards total points for MP1• Check in your items with a teacher before placing them in box.• If you are UNABLE to donate food items, please EMAIL ME,

speak with me in class or after class, etc., and we can arrange an alternate task for extra credit.

WRITE DOWN and SOLVE the following question: In 5 seconds a car moving in a straight line increases its speed from 50 km/h to 65 km/h, while a truck takes 7 seconds to go from rest to 14 km/h (in a straight line). Which has the larger acceleration?

DISCLAIMER• If at any point from now until the test you think…– Class is moving too slowly for you, and you want a

challenge– OR you need more practice/explanations,

• Get up and grab something from the supplemental materials folder.

• We have:– Level 0 – Descriptions and Solved Examples– Level 1- Average Speed problems with some DA– Level 1 & 2 – Distance vs Displacement, Speed vs.

velocity, with some DA – Level 2 & 3 - Acceleration problems with some DA; also

included are some problems with today’s new formula

QUIZZES Returned • You must ALL make corrections on your

OWN PAPERS for complete notes! –(the notes become your study tool for the

TEST, and an aid during QUIZZES)• See board for solutions to questions on

the back • Stuck? Ask for HELP!

LABS Returned • In lab groups, you are to review the comments on

the graded copy together

• You must ALL make corrections on your OWN PAPERS for complete notes–(the notes become your study tool for the

TEST, and an aid during QUIZZES)• Project Managers can ask me questions about the

grading if needed. • You may also use this time to peer

review regarding your QUIZZES

• So…You CAN’T assume that the faster you are going, the higher your acceleration.

• Acceleration is NOT how fast you’re moving!• Acceleration is the change in velocity divided by the

time interval • Acceleration describes how quickly velocity

CHANGES– Having a HIGH acceleration does not mean HOW

QUICKLY you can move…– It means HOW QUICKLY you can change your velocity.

Changing direction Then it is ACCELERATING (Centripetal acceleration… we will learn about

this in Ch. 9)

If you’re NOT doing any of these things,

you’re not accelerating!

22. Why is it that an object can accelerate while traveling at constant speed, but not at constant velocity?

Because it can travel at a constant speed and CHANGE DIRECTION (meaning it’s accelerating!)But…constant velocity means it’s not changing velocity, and therefore not accelerating

23. Light travels in a straight line at a constant speed of 300,000 km/s. What is the light´s acceleration?

14. Why does the unit of time enter twice in the unit of acceleration?

• When done with your Quiz…– place quiz upside down in IN Box–Return calculator and clicker!–Do your HW or Start Prepping for your Nov. 4 Test• take Extra Practice if needed

• HW: Please RE-DO/ RE-CHECK #28-30; 43-44 (but you do NOT have to do part 2 of #44!).

• AND do the 4 math problems at the back of your POGIL (#25-28)– We are rapidly reviewing these next class, & getting back

your quizzes next class• Upcoming Tasks: – Food Drive (Nov. 13) and Test (Nov. 4)
