Listing as many items as possible. Then in the red box, l list everything that DIDN’T work for you during that specific performance (again focus ONLY on the specific skill, emotion or action). Listing as many items as possible. Then in the green box, utilising the findings of the red box - list everything that you learned and will do differently in the next performance. Be specific, be practical and be honest. Ensure your actions are realistic and achievable. In the purple box list the structure of HOW you will replicate the new system, the step by step pattern, checks and rewards process. Focusing on applying that which worked (blue box) and that which has been corrected (green box). Also identify how you will know it has been applied and how you will know if it is not applied. The ‘points’ box is for any clarification tags, keep phrases or action notes. Concept: The concept is to break down the performance / emotion / action into what you got right, what you didn’t get right and what you need to do different then next time in order to get it right. This clinical and mechanical perspective enables us to remove the emotional fogginess aspects and look at the pure mechanics Vs outcome ratio. It also enables the athlete to build an accountable, sustainable step-by-step process to replicate the outcome as and when required.

Exercise: Mental Debrief

Working on a specic aspect of performance (Physical, emotional, cognitive)start with a very specic event in mind, a specic time where this was performedand where you can recall the sequence of events.

Then from a dissociated perspective (from the outside looking in on the event)deconstruct the performance through the rst three (3) stage coloured boxes.

(Blue) focus on What worked(Red) focus on What didn’t work(Green) focus on What do I need to do dierent

So in the blue box, list everything that worked for you during that specicperformance (focus ONLY on the specic skill, emotion or action).Listing as many items as possible.

Then in the red box, l list everything that DIDN’T work for you during that specicperformance (again focus ONLY on the specic skill, emotion or action).Listing as many items as possible.

Then in the green box, utilising the ndings of the red box - list everything thatyou learned and will do dierently in the next performance. Be specic, bepractical and be honest. Ensure your actions are realistic and achievable.

In the purple box list the structure of HOW you will replicate the new system, thestep by step pattern, checks and rewards process. Focusing on applying thatwhich worked (blue box) and that which has been corrected (green box).

Also identify how you will know it has been applied and how you will know if it isnot applied.

The ‘points’ box is for any clarication tags, keep phrases or action notes.

Concept:

The concept is to break down the performance / emotion / action into what yougot right, what you didn’t get right and what you need to do dierent then nexttime in order to get it right.

This clinical and mechanical perspective enables us to remove the emotionalfogginess aspects and look at the pure mechanics Vs outcome ratio.

It also enables the athlete to build an accountable, sustainable step-by-stepprocess to replicate the outcome as and when required.
