    MEANING

    Information Communication Technology (ICT) is a term thatdescribes types oftechnologythat are used specifically forcommunications.

    ICT focuses more on technologies that deal withcommunication, like cell phones, the Internet etc.

    The field of Information Communication Technology has takenoff in the last decade.

    At the end of 2010, the world had morethan 4 billionmobilephone users,and close to one-fourth oftheworld'spopulationhad accessto the Internet.

    Communication, the exchange of ideas, has become faster,easier,and moreefficientdue to advances in technology.

    The area of information technology is responsible for the

    developmentand maintenanceof technology.

    Technology-based communication involves computer softwares, hard wares, Internet applications and operatingsystems.

    E-mail is a popular form of communication for academicinstitutions and businesses.

    Schools and businesses usually have an IT department or atleast one IT professional.

    COMMUNICATION Communication technology has had both positiveand

    negative effects on organizational communication(same).

    Communication technology, like email and teleconferences,makes organizational communication easilyaccessible.

    Communication technology lets our manager better collectdataaround the workplace, allowing him/her to make moreinformed decisions.

    Electronic communication, like online forums, gives outerpersons a place to complainabouttheir work.

    Increased accessibility of organizational communication cancomplicatethe boundariesbetween our work life and homelife.

    The impact of electronic communication on organizationalcommunication depends on how managementimplementsthetechnologyinthe workplace.

    INTERNET: A REVOLUTION

    It was only in the 1990s that the Internet became a popular means ofcommunication.

    Different surveys today suggest that thirty-sevenpercentof people

    worldwide are using the Internet, or simply the Net.

    The Web, as it stands today, has allowed global interpersonalexchange. People separated by vast distances, can use the Web toexchange, or even mutually develop, their most intimate and extensivethoughts, or alternately their most casual attitudes and spirits.

    Emotional experiences,political ideas,cultural customs,musical idioms, businessadvice,artwork,photographs,literature,can all be shared and disseminated digitally with lessindividual investment than ever before in human history.

    EMPLOYEES- new product launches, feedback etc. SUPPLIERS - new product set-ups, or to get feedback on

    existing products. The Internet tools include email, interactivewebsites, Supplier Relationship Management etc.

    a company can communicate financial information toshareholders, provide disclosure documents to regulatoryauthorities , and help to analyze their stock.
