STAY CONNECTED@hiclubvacations

It’s certainly been a crazy winter for many parts of the country. Although some members visiting our Vermont resort will enjoy the extended ski season, others are just

as happy to feel the return of the warm spring sun. For you, we’ve got a great 25% savings deal to our sunniest escapes. And what better way to start the season than with a quick getaway and a few extra Club Points remaining in your pocket?

For you summer travelers, Orlando theme parks are going all out this year with bold, new family attractions! See inside for a closer look at Disney’s New Fantasyland—the largest expansion to the Magic Kingdom Park in its history. Plus, get a peek at Universal Studios, SeaWorld and even Fun Spot America, which all have new rides opening this summer.

I’m also excited to announce our newest Club Partner Amtrak. To mark the occasion, eViewpoints is bringing you an “ode to Americana” series that begins this issue. Each installment will take a fun look at some of the more unusual oddities you can find when you take the route less traveled. Plus, our Club Lounge members have asked and we’re listening. Be sure to see our answers to their top questions about the Club, resort availability, discount tickets and more.

One thing I have to say is what’s great about spring is it gets everyone in a vacation mood. In fact, we see a big upsurge in reservations right now. So if you haven’t planned your next vacation yet, get those 2013 travel plans locked in so you get your first choice of resorts and villas. We’ve got plenty of new experiences waiting for you.

See you soon.

From the Movies to the Magic KingdomNew Fantasyland features familiar faces and family fun

Walt Disney World® Theme Parks have always brought classic animated characters to life through enchanting, detailed creations. So it’s fitting the Magic Kingdom® Park has launched its newest (and largest) expansion ever—New Fantasyland—which adds many new characters from their beloved films.

The young and young at heart will find memorable experiences reliving moments from Beauty and the Beast (1991) and The Little Mermaid (1989) in the Enchanted Forest and remember the charm of Dumbo (1941) in the Storybook Circus. During your next visit to Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Orange Lake Resort, be sure to make time for magic.

Explore the Enchanted ForestTwo new royal castles grace the skyline of the Enchanted Forest, a beautiful landscape of trees, rocks and waterfalls where fairy tales come true and love conquers all.

Step into the “tale as old as time” with an incredible feast in one of three themed dining areas at Be Our Guest Restaurant in the heart of Beast’s Castle. Or for more casual food and beverages, saunter into the manly Gaston’s Tavern nearby.

And don’t miss Enchanted Tales with Belle—an intimate, interactive storytelling experience hosted by everyone’s favorite well-read princess. Featuring Lumière the candelabra, the Magic Mirror and other surprises, it’s a chance for you to become part of the story.

Meanwhile, you won’t feel like a fish out of water when you head next door to Prince Eric’s Castle. You’ll admire a detailed shipwreck scene outside and enjoy the interactive queue before boarding a giant clamshell for a musical ride through Under the Sea—Journey of the Little Mermaid.

And when the journey is over, head over to Ariel’s Grotto. It’s a special place where the mermaid herself greets guests, signs autographs and poses for photos to mark the occasion.

Soar through the

Storybook CircusThe classic American circus comes alive in theme park glory! The Storybook Circus is a nostalgic area that captures the spirit of the little elephant that could. Stroll among multicolored tents, fun characters, movie details and more. But of course, the star of the show is the re-imagined classic ride

Dumbo the Flying Elephant—a longtime favorite that has doubled in size!

Other big-top-style attractions are waiting to bring smiles to the faces of your little ones. The Barnstormer is a perfect first roller coaster that features Goofy as “The Great Goofini.” Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station is a fun way to cool off on hot afternoons, and it’s right next to Fantasyland Station—the newest addition to the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Above: Be Our Guest offers casual dining by day and fine dining in the evenings by reservation. Right: Gaston shows off his ample shoulders.

Film Fact Beauty and the Beast was the first animated movie to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It would not happen again until almost 20 years later, when the field was widened from five films to 10 and Pixar’s UP (2009) received a nomination.

Film FactThe song “Be Our Guest,” after which the restaurant was named, was

one of three songs from Beauty and the Beast to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song—along with “Belle” and eventual winner “Beauty and the Beast.” The film also won for Best Original Score.

Above: Kids love LeFou’s Brew, Gaston Tavern’s signature non-alcoholic drink.

Page 5: eViewpoints Spring 2013

More fun to be minedOf course, one of the best parts of New Fantasyland is there’s more to come! In all, Fantasyland will nearly double in size—for the largest expansion in the history of Magic Kingdom Park.

Later in 2013, your favorite Disney princesses will greet their subjects in the new royal court known as the Princess Fairytale Hall. Then in 2014, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will offer an exhilarating roller coaster journey through the world of Snow White’s memorable septet of friends.

Immerse yourself in the magicFor a special look inside New Fantasyland, be sure to visit revealfantasyland.com. This interactive experience lets you be part of the story and help break the curse that has kept the area hidden until now (as the legend goes). It’s a great way to learn more about this magical new world—and inspire you to “earmark” time to experience it yourself the next time you’re in Orlando.

Film FactThe Little Mermaid was the first Disney animated film to receive

Academy Award nominations since The Rescuers (1977). It went on to win the awards for Best Original Song (“Under the Sea”) and Best Original Score, to go with a second nomination for the song “Kiss the Girl.”

Opposite: Ariel meets new friends “under the sea.” Above: Families can drop in for a quick bite at Gaston’s Tavern.

Film FactReleased in 1941, Dumbo was Disney’s

fourth full-length animated feature after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940) and Fantasia (1940). At only 64 minutes, it’s one of the shortest of all the company’s animated features.

Optimus is the buff robot leader of the good guys, and Megatron is the equally stoked leader of the bad guys. As you can imagine, they never liked each other!

Riding on the success of the Transformers franchise, Universal Orlando is bringing TRANSFORMERS The Ride: 3D to town. Michael Bay, director of the movies and consultant for the project, promises, “We broke the mold and have taken this ride to a new technological level in terms of blending seamless 3D.”

From all accounts, it looks like they did. The “ultra-immersive story experience” marries hi-def 3D and flight simulation technology with 14 screens and real-world set features. Think if it as the next generation of technology used on Universal’s award-winning The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride.

New Coasters

from a Surprising Source

Fun Spot America, a local, family-owned attraction with a can-do spirit is stepping up its game by tripling the size of its Orlando location. What’s really exciting is two theme-park-quality roller coasters (check out CGI of rides here) will be among its new offerings. White Lighting, only the third wooden coaster to come to Florida and Freedom Flyer, a steel suspension coaster will open this spring in phase two of their expansion.

Add in a huge, 250-foot SkyCoaster suspension ride, double carousel and more kiddie rides, and you’ve got a great value for family fun. In fact, Fun Spot was recently named the “Best Family Entertainment Center in America” by IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions).

Plenty of Attraction Action Coming to Orlando

What about that Harry Potter thing? Although it may feel like the worst-kept secret in Orlando, Universal hasn’t officially announced a second village coming to the incredibly popular The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™—no matter what you’ve heard. The demise of Amityville and the jaws ride to make way for well…something…has everyone speculating. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Disney’s not the only one making moves, as theme parks throughout the area step up their game in 2013!

Square Off with

Megatron at Universal Studios

Optimus Prime interrupted Universal Studios’ nightly Cinematic Spectacular show last November to warn of impending doom: Decepticons are coming to Orlando…this summer. Before running for the hills, know that

The “Coolest” Attraction to Come to SeaWorld®

A crisp 30 degrees to be exact! SeaWorld is unveiling its biggest expansion in history with the opening of Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin this spring. It’s a one-of-a-kind attraction that includes a colony of over 200 penguins. You’ll be immersed in up-close encounters with its cuddly inhabitants and take an all-family adventure ride, exploring the thrills and chills of Antarctica through the eyes of one very special penguin.

How long have you been providing guest advice at the Center?I’ve been with Disney since 2007, but I started almost two years ago at the desk here and stepped up to my current role as leader last June. We really are the experts at keeping up with everything new going on at Disney. With so much to see and do, we’re happy to share tips and inside information we know from working there, attending previews and making personal visits so we can tell guests what it’s really like.

Tember, tell us more about your personalized itinerary service. We sell a wide variety of Walt Disney World Resort tickets, from 1- to 10-day theme park tickets to annual passes—pretty close to everything they offer. And like concierges, we can help plan your day, make dining reservations and more. For Club members who return here every year, we frequently advise the 10-day Magic Your Way® Base Ticket with the No-Expiration Option so they can save money in the long run and can get as much out of their experiences as they can.

With Orange Lake Resort located adjacent to Walt Disney World® Theme Parks, it’s only natural that many visiting Club members drop in to see Mickey and his friends. That’s why right in the check-in lobby we have Disney Cast Members ready to help plan your visit. With tickets, advice and the “inside scoop” on the best ways to visit their wide variety of entertainment options, it’s one stop you want to make soon after arrival.

How can your team help them plan a nice dining experience at your resort? We have access to book dining and dinner-show reservations throughout the theme parks and across Disney property. And you don’t have to be staying at a Disney resort to enjoy these restaurants—you can book as far out as six months or right up to the same day by calling our Disney Planning Center desk at (407) 239-8008 or by dropping by.

What are some other fun entertainment options outside your theme parks you can help arrange? We have add-ons to our theme park tickets, such as the Water Park Fun & More option. This gives you access to our two water parks and DisneyQuest®, plus our mini golf courses were just added to it. There’s the Downtown Disney® Area, where we can also make dining reservations for them, and its new Splitsville® - Downtown Disney bowling attraction is very popular right now.

Any last bit of advice? Please see us after check-in! We’ll help plan a great visit to the Walt Disney World Resort and purchasing tickets here will save you a ton of time from having to stand in line at the theme parks.

Onsite Disney experts right at your fingertips

On your next visit, say “hi” to Tember, manager of the Disney Planning Center at Orange Lake Resort!

With the holiday and New Year’s season now a memory, it’s time to move our eating and fun outdoors! Head over to the east coast just north of the Grand Strand to Little River for its 32nd Annual Blue Crab Festival. It’s only about 45 minutes north of Holiday Inn Club Vacations South Beach Resort—and the seafood is as superb and fresh as it comes. Plus, there are plenty of other activities like arts, crafts, music and more to make a great day in the springtime sun. While there, don’t forget the La Belle Amie Vineyard festivals (see schedule) featuring great wines and fun music of different genres every two weeks now through November. And the thunder returns with the Myrtle Beach Spring Bike Week May 10–18.

Down in Orlando, Mardi Gras hits Universal Studios at the “biggest bash this side of the Bayou” Saturdays and select nights through April 20. Enjoy authentic Cajun foods (for purchase), dazzling parades, live bands direct from New Orleans and all the beads you can handle!

Spend Easter in Galveston, TX with two free Easter egg hunts scheduled at the always fun Moody Gardens March 31 for the kiddies 12 years and younger. Then head into the Garden Restaurant and Moody Gardens hotel for big holiday buffets. Best of all—no cooking for you!

plan toWith snow giving way to the bright colors of spring

experiences

The snow may be giving way to green where you are, but you can turn the clock back with Vermont spring skiing. Bright sun, light gear, t-shirts and après skiing are usually the order of the day. Spring skiing is a great vibe and fun activities are all around. Killington kicks off the season on March 22 with Nor’Beaster, a series of spring parties, competitions and events that run over two weeks. On April 6, hit the Slush Cup at both Mt. Sunapee and Okemo Mountain, or Pond Skimming April 20 at Killington. This is a cross between snow and water skiing to see if you can make it across a “loooong” stretch of snowmelt waters (most don’t, but that’s the fun!).

Later in the month down in the valley, the working Billings Farm & Museum has its Opening Day Celebration on April 27. It kicks off its 30th year with horse-drawn carriages, free ice cream and

Sail over a 100-acre adventure park filled with rugged topography, mature forest and a wide variety of wildlife. The thrilling Lake Geneva Canopy Tours offers eight zip line courses, five sky bridges, a circular stairway in the trees and the 1,200-foot Dual Racing Zip Line. Then step it up at the Gladiator Assault Challenge April 13 or 14, which comes to Grand Geneva Resort, home to Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Lake Geneva Resort. The race combines mud pits, cargo nets, endurance challenges and more on a 6-7 mi. course. Of course, it’s all followed by a great party celebrating your “survival!” Registration is open until April 10, 2013.

Farther south in Galveston, feel like an old-world explorer on a two- or four-hour kayak tour in Galveston Island State Park. On March 24, trek through this pristine 1,200-acre ecological jewel among habitats of heron, pelican and other wildlife that make Galveston Island their winter home.

A Step Back in Time…

Page 9: eViewpoints Spring 2013

Although reminiscing about playing with toy tracks may take you back, playing in the sandbox was never like this! Use real, colossal, earth-moving equipment to push, dig and gouge the ground on a stretch of Vegas dirt at Dig This. First a little training and fun activities, then you are let loose to dig at your heart’s content. Whether driving a powerful and thrilling bulldozer or backhoe, you’ll never have as much fun—or laughs—digging in the dirt.

And over at Panama City Beach, the high season of Spring Break is March when the college crowd descends onto its famous shores and nightlife. The

scene is definitely livelier and busier in the venues and beaches right in the middle of downtown. However, our own Bay Point Resort, Panama City Beach Resort and outlying areas along the shore do not see the heavier crowds that downtown does—so we’re a great place for both excitement and relaxation to put those winter doldrums behind you!

hands-on programs. And May 4-5, it features a full weekend devoted to Sheep Shearing & Border Collies herding, plus a children’s art show. It all happens not far from Ascutney Mountain Resort.

As the valley wakes from its winter slumber, so do our favorite old-time towns of Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Pigeon Forge to celebrate the annual Smoky Mountain Springfest. Bright flowers, fun outdoor events and festivals return to the area beginning March 12. Dollywood’s Festival of Nations features art, dance, music and food from 20 nations from March 23 – April 20, and the Great Smoky Easter Arts & Crafts Show comes to Gatlinburg from March 28–30 showcasing

renowned, local artisans. From April 23–27, the 63rd Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage, a popular event for the National Park, returns with more than 150 programs including tours, experts, seminars and more.

See Americafrom a Different Point of View

Ride the rails with Amtrak®, our newest Club PartnerRemember that old saying “one if by land, two if by sea?” We’ll, you may want to add three if by rail! In our quest to give you more options to travel to your favorite vacation places, you can now use your Club Points to redeem for travel on Amtrak, America’s national railway system.

Hit the Tracks Each day, Amtrak operates more than 300 trains on over 21,000 miles of tracks to 500 destinations across the U.S. To celebrate our new partnership, we’re taking you on a journey to uncover the weird and wonderful at places both big and small that Amtrak travels through.

And what better way to start our rail trip than right here in Kissimmee, FL heading north on the Amtrak Silver Service/Palmetto line. But before we do, let’s take a look around the area before hopping on board!

“Sweet!” Driving along Rt. 192 toward the Kissimmee station, you can’t miss the famous 60-foot orange orb—or at least half of one. Now in its 40th year, the wonderfully tacky kitsch is a nostalgic touch for any Florida visit. It even appeared in a 2004 PBS documentary, so it’s a star…of sorts…

A Bigfoot Sighting! No, not that one (but how cool would that be?)—but the truck affectionately known as Bigfoot. Its daddy was born in 1974 and is considered to be the first “monster truck” in the world. It was only as a lark that its owner videotaped himself running over a couple of parked cars that led to…well…the most famous name in steroid-infused trucks! It spawned a new sport and it lives on through its almost two-dozen offspring. Lucky #7 now lives at the Kissimmee Fun Spot USA.

Recyclasouras Rex Terrorizes Tampa Like a scene from a B-movie, a life-sized, 40’-long “Trashasaurus” Rex stands guard in front of the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) passing judgment on passing commuters. His eerie red eyes, when they work, even glow at night. The environmentally conscious bipod’s belly is filled with aluminum cans and plastic bottles as a statement that we must take care of the world or perish. Apparently, all the other dinosaurs missed the memo.

The Cure for a Giant Thirst It can get hot up in Jacksonville, FL. So teasing you, all 62 feet of it, is a big can of 7-Up in front of the local bottler. It’s in the exact proportional dimensions to that wimpy 12-oz. version you can get at the gas station—but not nearly as tasty! This modern art is actually a 65,000-gallon water tower used to make those sweet concoctions that fuel our days…and inevitable workouts that follow.

Your quest for odd attractions has left you sleepy, so now it’s time to find a place to rest your head. Lucky for you, you’ve got a bunch of Club Points for an IHG hotel stay.

Just a few miles away from the downtown Amtrak station is the brand-new Holiday Inn Express-Savannah in the Historic District. It has a great rooftop pool and observation deck overlooking the Savannah River, plus the neighborhood offers unique places to hang out that fit the old-time vibe of the city. Just call a Club Counselor to transfer your Club Points to your Priority Club Rewards account, have them make a reservation for you, and you’re good to go!

Making a Statement Dubbed “Monument to the States,” a local doctor began constructing his vision in 1942 following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He wrote letters to every governor in the U.S. asking to send him local rocks to represent each state—all 48 of ‘em. They came in from all corners, including one from President Franklin D. Roosevelt (and even a human skull, but that one didn’t make the cut). After his death, rocks still came in from companies and others. These made their way into the area around the garish, but well-meaning, 50-ft. sculpture in downtown Kissimmee.

In 1919, before the “Curse of the Bambino” even began, Babe Ruth hit his longest home run ever—an amazing 587 feet (it only takes a measly 300 feet in some baseball parks today). It all happened in a spring training game with the New York Giants in the long-gone Plant Field stadium, now home to University of Tampa. A plaque memorializing the feat sits at the very spot where the ball eventually came back to earth. Unfortunately, Babe never quite hit one like that again. Maybe he should’ve stayed with the Sox.

Life is Like a Box of Chocolates… Now we move north into Georgia, a state that gives Florida a run for its money in oddities. Pretend history becomes real with “Forrest Gump’s” favorite bench from the Oscar-winning movie. The Savannah History Museum contends the famous bench seen throughout the movie stayed for years where the actual filming took place downtown. That was before they moved it indoors to shield it from the rigors of a life of fame. Well, you gotta give them props for taking care of their own. Paramount says no, they have the original—and the battle rages on.

Questions from our Facebook Club Lounge

Where is the best place to buy area attraction tickets when visiting resorts?

Our Orlando and Las Vegas properties are best known for their area attractions. The Transportation and Ticket Desk and Disney Planning Center at Orange Lake Resort can help with tickets to many local theme parks and attractions. At Desert Club Resort in Las Vegas, you’ll want to talk to the Concierge Team.

Tickets for many shows and area excursions are available through them and can cost less than they do at the box office. If not, they still can give you valuable tips on the best ways to save on the shows that interest you. At our other resorts, always check with the Front Desk when visiting to see if any deals may be available.

5

Why is availability limited at new Holiday Inn Club Vacations resorts?

Making a reservation at a brand-new resort can require patience and flexibility. When we acquire a new resort, we purchase the unsold inventory from the previous developer, not the villas already owned and in use by existing owners. (These units only become available to you when their owners choose to join

the Club.) Often, the villas need to be renovated and brought up to Orange Lake Resorts and Holiday Inn Club Vacations standards, which can further limit availability. However, as renovations are completed and existing owners decide to upgrade to the Club, more villas become available for your reservation requests. New resort availability can be further limited based on the demand from our 80,000+ members, so it’s important to make your requests as early as possible.

4

What is the “Owner Update Meeting” and do I have to attend?

The Owner Update Meeting is your opportunity to learn more about Holiday Inn Club, its destinations and improved member benefits available to you since your last visit. Although you are not required to attend, many people want to know how to make the most of their vacation ownerships. Also, we are constantly improving the Club and the feedback we receive from you

plays a key role in what we offer in the future. So, at the end of the day, it’s an opportunity to learn more about your membership. At the same time, you can play an active part in creating better vacations with additional resort destinations, Club Partner experiences and flexibility.

1

What is a Club Partner and how do I use my Holiday Inn Club Points to book with them?

A Club Partner is a third-party provider that we partner with to offer more fun things for you to do. Some examples are IHG’s Priority Club Rewards, cruise lines, airlines, Hertz®, Amtrak and attractions like the Blue Man Group. To make a Club Partner reservation, call a Vacation Counselor to redeem your current

or following year’s Club Points at (877) 606-CLUB before October 1. To learn about the experiences available to you, click here.

Booking a cruiseYou can also use your Club Points to book a cruise on almost two-dozen cruise lines including Carnival, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America and more by speaking to a Vacation Counselor. You can use current or future use year Club Points, or even combine them with cash to make your reservations.

2

How do I convert my Club Points into Priority Club® Rewards points?

Just call a Vacation Counselor and tell them how many you’d like to transfer into your Priority Club account—it’s that easy! Once your Holiday Inn Club Points are converted, they never expire and can only be used for Priority Club Rewards from that point forward. So, it’s important to understand the point

values and options before converting your Club Points.

On November 7, Condos I–IV of Orange Lake Resorts’ Associations, Orange Lake Country Club Villas Condominium Association, Inc., met for their final Board meeting of 2012. The Condo V Board met on December 12. At both meetings, Directors reviewed Association financials, assessment collections and strong guest satisfaction scores. They provided an operations update noting the new landscaping in the North Village and around Building 81000, which was also painted, plus the new-style floors installed in the West Village, East Village and River Island fitness centers. The Board also adopted the 2013 Reserve Study that analyzes reserve funds. This ensures that sufficient funds are set aside to repair and replace items in the units, exterior painting, roofs, elevators, etc. They also

adopted the 2013 Operating and Reserve Budgets and approved several resolutions and agreements necessary to operate the resort.

The Annual Owners’ Meeting for Condos I–IV was held on November 8. Condo V’s annual meeting was held after the December 12 Board meeting. These meetings marked the first time owners voted their proxies online. The meetings included election of Board members and detailed financial reports with an explanation of the operating and reserve assessments that comprise the maintenance fee. The meetings concluded with a question-and-answer session.

The Condo V Board is scheduled to meet next on March 7 and the others will meet the following day.
