Indie Magazine Adverts

Above are Indie music adverts I

analysed and based my codes and conventions research on.

Codes & Conventions

The indie adverts I adverted tended to have numerous elements on each theses included the artists name this was usually in the largest font, the artists album name, a mid shot of the artist (from the waist upwards) and soft/pastel colours were also used throughout. Five of seven of the adverts I looked at also included the release date as well or just stated that “the album is out now”. In order to create a successful magazine advert I knew that it was important to follow most of these conventions so the target audience would be able to establish a relationship between the magazine advert and the artist as well as her music and I though that I did this sucessfully.

Relevant information

Close up of the artist. Although this shot does not follow the codes and conventions of a typical Indie magazine advert we thought it was important for the audience to establish a relationship with the artist as on the digipack the album cover does not have a image of the artist

I challenged the codes and conventions as I showed the artist from two sides which helps to relate to the indie genre as we they consider themselves as “different”

We challenged the codes and convention by putting the record label rough trade in the corner of the advert. This is not common in Indie magazine adverts however we thought it was vital as they currently sign a lot of Indie artist which shows that the artist is not mainstream and fits with the genre.

Simple font used which can also be associated with the digipack this demonstrates that the artist is more focused on her music rather than her brand image

Follows the motif that appears it the debut single youth
