Independent Public School Expression ofInterest
The Education Department is currently calling for Expressionsof Interest (EOI) for 70 schools across the state to join theIndependent Public Schools Initiative in 2017.
Like all state schools, IPS are an integral part of the educationsystem. They partner closely with their school community tocreate and pursue a shared strategic direction which focuseson enhancing school / community relationships, studentwellbeing and improved student outcomes across thecurriculum. Independent Public Schools are required to operatein line with the same legislation, industrial instruments, directives, whole of government policy and national agreementsas other schools.
IPS schools are high potential schools, selected on the basisof their ability to clearly demonstrate and maintain improvedstudent outcomes for all students who attend the school ineach year of their operation. While this affords the school someoperational flexibility to test new ways of working it comeswith an expectation that the school is fully accountable to theircommunity and the department by sharing innovative practicewhich lifts not only the performance of the school as anindividual but also supports positive change across the entirestate school system.
Schools interested in becoming an IPS in 2017 are to discusstheir intention to apply for the initiative with their AssistantRegional Director or Regional Director in relation to the schoolscapacity to assume greater autonomy. In the applicationinterested schools must also demonstrate extensiveconsultation has occurred with the school community via theParents and Citizens Association, Local ConsultativeCommittee and the QTU.

At last week’s P&C meeting I raised awareness of the membersto the consideration of Eumundi becoming an IPS school.Further discussion and consideration will be given at the nextmeeting.
I feel that the IPS initiative is an exciting opportunity for usas a school community. Should you have any questions orconcerns relating to this please feel free to contact me [email protected] or call the office on 54726333.
QParents is coming to Eumundi State School2017
What is QParents?
QParents is an online portal that provides a convenient newway for parents to communicate with their child’s school. As aparent, you can view your child’s student information and alsosubmit changes to some of their details. The information thatcan be viewed includes timetables, report cards, attendancerecords, behaviour information and timely access to invoicesand payment details. Parents will also be able to update theirchild’s details, pay invoices online, and let the school know ofchanges to normal routine, such as when their child is unwell orhas to leave early.
Why is it being introduced?
QParents has been designed to offer an online hub whereparents can access essential information about their students, their activities and their performance at school. It should savetime and costs for both parents and staff, and will provideanytime, anywhere accessibility using a PC, smart phone ortablet.
For more information follow the link below.
https://qparents.qld.edu.au/
Finally this week I will be taking some leave for three weeks atthe commencement of Term 4 to work in district office. Duringthis time Mark Kross will be in charge of the school.
Wishing everyone a relaxing September break and I lookforward to seeing you all in Week 4 of next term.

Grandparents Day
Making Memories in Prep
What a wonderful day we had to celebrate the important roleour Grandparents play in our young lives! Many of ourGrandparents had travelled far and wide so we wanted to makeit worth their while! At 9am we sang some fun songs to ourGrandparents like, 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, My Gran boughtan Electric Guitar', etc. Then we did some fun activities withthem such as; chalkboard drawing, frenchknitting, playdough, paper craft, chatterbox making, grandparent stories, puzzles, mobilo, blocks and gardening. After that, we played Bingo andhad a slideshow to the music, 'You are my Sunshine'. We tookthem out for a very special shared morning tea. We gave ourGrandparents a special memory keepsake of their visit to ourschool; a thank you card and a footprint bookmark. What aspecial day we had with our Grandparents and Grandfriends. Itis a day we will never forget!

Prep C Special Visitor
We were so excited to have Lennox Freeman's Grandfatherjoin us in Prep C for Grandparents Day. Poppy Jim actuallyattended Eumundi State School in the 1940's. This is whatPoppy Jim recalled..."I started school at a young age. I rodea horse to school. The school had a horse paddock and ashed to put the bridles and saddles in. Because of WW2, therewas very little petrol so most children walked to school. Weused to have air raid drill each week. The trenches were dugunder the trees. The school consisted of three classrooms, aheadmaster's house, a shelter shed and a tennis court." PoppyJim is 81 years young and we were in awe as he shared somestories from his childhood. We felt so inspired that we called MrConnors to come and meet Poppy Jim, a past pupil from yearslong ago.

2016 BILLY MOORE SHIELD RUGBY LEAGUECARNIVAL
On Wednesday 7 September two rugby league teams fromEumundi competed in the Billy Moore Shield ‘8-a-side’ RugbyLeague Gala Day at Maroochydore JRL. The carnival was oneof the largest held in recent years. Thirty schools were involvedwith nearly ninety teams competing!
Our year 5/6 Eumundi team played a total four games. The firstwas against Buderim Mountain SS, the second against CoolumSS, the third against Talara SS and the fourth and final gameagainst Tewantin SS.
The boys improved considerably each game in attack anddefence. After only being defeated narrowly by BuderimMountain and Coolum, the team hung in there - with the finaltwo games ending in draws. Some positive feedback for theseguys centred on their impressive teamwork and solid defencethat was put on display throughout the carnival.
