School Hall

At last week’s P&C meeting the topic of cooling the hall wason the agenda and how we can best reduce the heat andconditions experienced by staff and students during thesummer months. After a range of discussions / ideas andsuggestions including refrigerated air conditioning and cardiffair type systems and taking into account the costs associatedwith both of these solutions the school has opted to explore thesuggestion to better insulate the hall before going any furtherwith cooling solutions. To best cool the hall in an economicallyand environmentally responsible way is a particularly complexissue and as such we continue to look for suitable alternatives. If you have any questions or concerns in relation to this matterplease call the school on 54 726333 and ask to speak with thePrincipal.

Have a great week.

DEPUTY News – Prep to 2This Newsmundi we look at and celebrate the ‘Super ReadingPowers’ of Prep students. The images were taken on the lastday of Book Week and our dress-up day after their fabulousBook Week Parade!

Students in Prep F can be seen in their reading group activitiespractising vocabulary skills with card games from theirdecodable readers. These specialised texts are designed withspecific sound (phonic) focuses and give students anopportunity to practice their phonic knowledge in the context ofa story. Card games are played with the words to help boosttheir ability and confidence to decode (or sound out as we oftensay).

Prep J and Prep O students show how well they can do theirreading stamina practice for a whole 9 and 11 minutes! Boxesof reading texts are given to each reading group to share, with

a variety of non-fiction, fiction and decodable readers for thestudents to choose from. These Prep students really amazewith their super reading power - maintaining their focus andattention for this entire period of time without distraction. Agreat skill being developed! While students read, Miss Molloyand Miss O listen to and assess individual students with theirreading skills. Kai and Lucy in Prep J both told me very clearlyabout their reading goal and how they are practising their goals.

Prep M students were also busy at reading group activities, working with a variety of decodable readers and non-fictiontexts, and practising their sequencing skills. Sequencing thebeginning, middle and end of a story or text is a core foundationreading skill and Australian Curriculum expectation. Malani andElliot also explained very clearly as other students did, whattheir specific reading goal is. A great achievement for our youngreaders.

Good to hear also that our Year 2 students, teachers andparents had an excellent excursion to Australia Zoo. Manyparents were there on the day, and we thank you for yoursupport. Students will now be busy working on the designs oftheir Crocodile enclosures in their related STEM unit.

Year 1 students have been thoroughly engaged this fortnightwith their STEM unit – designing and making their own musicalinstruments! Some highly interesting, clever and colourfuldesigns being made!

On another note... regarding items of interest children mightlike to bring to school from home....please note that usuallywe tell students that any items they bring to school (these areusually for some form of show and tell) should be kept with theirteacher and not taken out to play. We do try and allow someflexibility for students who like to play with a toy during playtimeto help keep them and their friends engaged, but this is alsorecommended to be negotiated with their teacher. With thisapproach, we hope to minimise any troubles that have potentialto arise with distraction from learning, or damage to preciousitems and toys. If your child is asking to bring an item or toy toschool for show and tell or play, please remind them they mustspeak with their teacher and keep their item secure with theteacher or in their school bag for the day they bring it along, andtry not to encourage items of great value of importance beingbrought to school.

Thank you to all the Grandparents that came to the PrepGrandparents Day! The classrooms were filled withGrandparents enjoying the singing, activities, morning tea andgifts prepared by Prep students and teachers. Thank you tothe Prep teaching team and all staff who helped contributeto the day and opportunity to connect families to our schoolcommunity.

A reminder to all - and please spread the word - we do havecapacity in 2020 to enrol Prep students from out of ourcatchment. We have posted information on our school'sFacebook page and contacted our local Kindies, but weencourage our families to help share this information. Pleasecall our office to arrange an enrolment interview, and sendenrolment forms in as soon as possible.

The program is professionally designedand is based on extensive research. Sessions are presented byeducators who are fully qualified teachers and have undergoneadditional training in the area of drug education.

Life Education Programs

Middle School programs focus on: Basic physiology; Safe andunsafe use of medicines; Bullying and communication skills;Cyber safety; Making informed choices.

Grandparents Day in Prep

A Day to Remember

What a gorgeous day celebrating our wonderful Grandparents! Our day started with singing some fun welcome songs. Nextwe asked our Grandparents to share some stories of whatschool was like when they were young. Some Grandparentsrode their horses to school and had milk delivered in little bottlesfor morning tea each day. Then we all went off together to enjoya range of fun activities, which included; finger knitting, Frenchknitting, chatterbox making, paper plane modelling, gardening, woodwork, playdough modelling, watercolour painting, chalkboard drawing, reading, and more. After that we playeda funny game of BINGO! Then the children gave theirGrandparents a card and a book mark each that they madefor them. And finally, it was time for morning tea! We took lotsof photos with our Grandparents for our photo memory board.Grandparents are very important in our lives and we wantedthem to know how much we value them and treasure spendingtime with them!

ITALIAN NEWSCongratulazioni Pip e Lexie!

Buongiorno a tutti.

Today I would like to share with you the good news that twoof our Year 6 students have succeeded at the highest level in astatewide Italian art competition.

Every year the Italian Language Centre in Brisbane runs aCalligram competition, receiving thousands of entries from allaround Queensland. A Calligram is a word or piece of text inwhich the letters create a visual image related to the meaningof the words. This year’s theme was ‘In gelateria’, so everydrawing had to be made completely of Italian words to do withice-cream – no lines or colouring-in at all.

After several nail-biting months awaiting results I can announcethat Lexie S in 6B has received a Highly Commended awardand Pip W in 6M has been awarded 1st place – the GOLDMEDAL. Wow.

These girls’ artworks will be on display at the Italian Languageand Culture Centre in Brisbane until October.

Congratulazioni ragazze!

A prestoBen Bleechmore

On Friday 23 August a team of 9 keen Eumundi cricketersarrived at the Tewantin Noosa Cricket Club ready to participatein a day of T20 Blast Cricket. The draw for the competition had Eumundi playing a total offour games. The boys got off to a good start defeating SunshineBeach SS in Round 1. However, the team suffered a heavy lossduring Round 2, against one of the St Thomas More teams (thisSt Thomas More team went on to finish as overall winners forthe day). Eumundi made up for this performance in Round 3by aiming up and winning very convincingly over Noosaville SSwith some superb batting and bowling efforts exhibited by theteam.

At the conclusion of the first 3 rounds, Eumundi was sitting in5th place out of 12 other competing teams (only missing outon fourth place by the barest of margins.) This now meant theyentered the Round 4 ‘cross pool playoff’ against Coolum SS.Another strong victory in this match had our team place fifthoverall at the conclusion of the day. Not a bad achievement atall!

It is also worth highlighting that the positive attitudes shown bythe boys was exceptional, as was the high level of playing skillon display.

Lastly, thank you to all parents for your assistance in getting theteam to and from the venue as well as supporting them so wellthroughout their matches.

The team was made up of the following students:

Kipp B, Nathan H, Sandy B, Royce R, Zach L, Harper W,Brodie C, Archie W and Zach H.

Well done guys!

I can’t believe I’m about to talk about what’s happening inTerm 4! Our first week back we have our National MentalHealth Week. Encouraging mental wellbeing every day from ayoung age is incredibly important. I want young children to getinto the habit of caring for their metal, emotional and socialwellbeing as much as they care about their physical wellbeing.Every morning before school we will be running a free eventthat promotes mental wellbeing - you will receive an email verysoon with all the details. Parents and siblings are welcome andencouraged to attend all events.
