Hi, I was surprised to receive your letter on 28 February. I was very excited

after reading it. Well, for your information, I am now studying in year five in SK

Sultan Ahmad in Besut. I was born on 21 June 1996 and I was a Friday baby. I

am the eldest and I have a younger brother who is eight years old.

I am about 145 cm tall and weigh about 40 kg. I am a very friendly

person. In school, I am a member of the English Language Society. At the

moment, I am practising very hard for the coming inter-school Public Speaking

Competition.

My hobbies are reading and watching television. I enjoy reading books

by Enid Blyton. As we both enjoy reading, I hope we will be able to share our

opinions about the books we have read.

Read the following story and underline the correct words. One morning, a lion ate a bone and it got stuck in his throat. The

lion promised to reward anyone who could get the bone out of his throat

but everybody was afraid of him. He struggled in pain until noon.

Later in the evening, a crane came and he was willing to help the

Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.

Bamboo can be found mostly in

many countries in Asia. It is a tall tropical

plant with hollow stems and small narrow

leaves. The bamboo stems can be used for

making tools and furniture. In some places

they are used to build houses, decoration

materials, rafts, bridges and gates.

Long ago, people used bamboo

sticks as weapons to protect themselves

from their enemies. They also used them

for hunting.

In Malaysia, people use bamboo for

cooking a popular food called ‘lemang’. They also cook and eat the young

bamboo shoot which is called ‘rebung’. The Japanese use bamboo to

make chopsticks, clothes, to build houses and to make many other tools.

In China, pandas eat bamboo leaves and live in the bamboo forest.

A Read the process carefully.

How Pottery is Made

1. First, the potter chooses and prepares the clay by pressing and squeezing the clay with his hands to make it soft and

smooth. It also gets rid of air bubbles that could crack the

clay during the firing process.

2. Then, he shapes the clay. He can do this by using one of the

methods such as the coil method, slab method, mould method

and wheel method.

3. After the clay dries up, it is decorated and glazed. Simple

decorations can be made by pressing fingers into the soft clay. Glazing smoothens and waterproofs pottery.

4. Finally, the pottery is baked in an oven called kiln to make it

hard and strong.
