London Youth Games 2015

On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July, the London Youth Games 2015 came to a close and the overall standings announced. Team Richmond came second overall, staying on the podium for the second year in a row having come third last year. This is an amazing achievement for a borough of our size. London Youth Games is the largest annual youth sporting event in Europe where the 33 London boroughs compete against each other in 30 different sports and 54 events. Team Richmond had 40 events score top 10 results this year which is an incredible result and 113 individual medals were won by our talented athletes. Team Richmond won the Regatta trophy again this year which combine the results from the Canoe Slalom, Canoe Sprint, Rowing and Sailing results. Team Richmond placed in 6th position in the overall Para Games Trophy results, the highest we‟ve ever placed in this. Curriculum Enhancement Days

Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 July marked two other great Curriculum Enhancement Days for our Teddington School students. Many activities and trips took place on these days. Please read below for an accounts of the Year 8 Docklands Trip.

Year 8 Docklands Trip

On Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 July, all of the Year 8 students went to visit the Docklands in London. Each of us were put into groups and we went around in them with our assigned teachers. We started the trip with a long coach trip that nevertheless was still good fun. We all got to listen to some music and talk. After we arrived at the entrance of the museum, we all split into our groups. My group walked through the Docklands area along the river Thames. Everyone was very impressed by the modern buildings that were made from glass. After our little tour was finished, we had lunch on a garden bridge. It was very beautiful there because we were surrounded by cared for plants and pretty pathways. After lunch, we walked back to the museum. There, we each got given a worksheet to complete as we set off to explore. In the museum there were a lot of interesting facts and things to look at. There was a realistic bomb shelter and my whole group managed to squeeze in. There was also a dark street full of old fashioned shops that would have been there during the old times. After we had completed our worksheets and went though the museum the coach brought us back to school. I found the trip very interesting and I especially liked how beautiful all the buildings looked. They seemed very sleek and modern and we all took a lot of pictures. In the future I would like to come back as I was so impressed at how such a old and dirty place could grow to become sleek, beautiful and interesting to every generation living in London. By Arla Marshall-Johnson, 8BW; Florence McDowell, 8BW and Anastasia Solovieva, 8BY.

House Drama Review

On Thursday 9 July, we had House Drama here in our Theatre. It was such a fun experience and my

whole cast loved it. We started our preparations about 6 weeks ago when each house had an

auditioning process. My best friend Demitris and me tried out together and we both got a part. My

house is York so we had a play called “Triple Negative”. The other plays were „”In her place” by Stuart,

“How to survive a zombie apocalypse” by Tudor and “Animal Farm” by Windsor. I really enjoyed all our

rehearsals as we had amazing directors and an amazing cast. It was so much fun as we blocked all of

our scenes and I made so many new friends. There was a lot of preparation to be done so the tight

time limit was always on our minds, but we still managed to get a great show planned.

The competition itself took place on Thursday and it was fantastic. All houses had brought in incredible

costumes and make up. We all dressed up and it‟s in these moments when you truly value what

fantastic opportunities we get here at Teddington School. We were all a little nervous before

performing our play but all our hard work paid off as we performed our piece. Our play went really well

and the audience was very happy.

In the end of the evening the winners were announced. Prizes were given out to the best Year 7

newcomers, the best supporting actor and the best actress. Well done to all the winners. In the end

York House won overall, defending their title from last year, but when I got a chance to watch the other

Houses performances on Monday I was very impressed. Each house managed to put together a

creative, original and unique show and I think that is something worth being proud of.

Overall my experience with House Drama was amazing and I loved it so much. I would really

encourage everyone to try out for it next year as it remains with you forever and you can be really

proud of your achievements regardless if you won something or not.
