Extra-Curricular Activities
We are very grateful to all the staff who have volunteered to run a wide range of extra-curricular activities for our students. The brochure outlining the offer is attached to the newsletter and will also be placed on the school website. Please click here to access the brochure. We are especially grateful to Jasemin Fettan (parent) for her tireless work in putting together the brochure for us. This is very much the first phase of a piece of work around extra-curricular provision, as outlined at the Parents’ Forum on Tuesday evening. Jasemin has also volunteered to investigate possibilities of working with external agencies and providers to add an additional “specialist” layer to the offer. We are hoping to be able to add this to the current offer in the Spring term. Please do go through the brochure with your children and identify any opportunities you think they would enjoy. They should approach the named member of school staff listed about participation. We are also very welcoming of offers of support from parents, so please email [email protected] should you feel in a position to be able to offer support for this initiative. Parents’ Forum Thank you to everyone who attended the Parents’ Forum on Tuesday evening (6 October 2015). We looked at the feedback from the visioning exercise which had been undertaken across all stakeholders in the final term of the last academic year. Jasemin Fettan (parent) also presented the extra-curricular brochure which is attached to this newsletter and will appear on the school’s website. Please click here to access the brochure. The final part of the forum was spent in groups with post-its to raise issues and questions. These will be collated and taken to the senior leadership team for discussion. The next forum will take place on Tuesday 15 December at 7.00 pm in room 106 and will focus on Sixth Form provision. Rebecca Poole Deputy Headteacher

German Exchange
Last month, our German Exchanges arrived at the school for their return trip. Having not seen them for
weeks, we greeted them with open arms and a table of food (already slightly nibbled). After giving
them a tour of the school, we returned to our homes for the first night. Until Friday, we saw very little of
our exchanges, as they went up into London, seeing the Greenwich Observatory and Madame
Tussauds, as well as going to the London Eye. On the weekend, we had time to spare and have fun
with our new friends. Unfortunately, everything comes to an end and our exchanges had to leave.

Cucina News
In the Cucina restaurant this week, we held our Rugby World Cup Theme Day. As England are out of the competition now, it was a very international day. The students enjoyed dishes like Romanian apple cake and springbok burgers. The new deli fridge has been met will great interest and popularity. Favourites include honey and spelt bloomer with Parma ham, roasted vegetable and pesto as well as British goat cheese, rocket leaves and Tomato and red onion chutney. Students are enjoying the food being served in the street kitchen with dishes like Ash Mair’s chicken teriyaki don, made with authentic Japanese ingredients. We are also offering Texan BBQ pulled beef with crunchy salad in a folded wrap. Chef Phil Wilkins

Spending the Money
At the PTA meeting on 28 September we voted to spend lots of the money in our coffers as we want to make sure that money donated now is spent on the students currently in school. We voted to give £5000 to Mr Wilkinson as a discretionary fund to enable him progress ideas quickly and we approved £5000 as a school fund to support new initiatives in teaching. In the current economic climate there is simply no spare cash for schools to use and every little we can give the school makes a huge difference.
Raffle
Our back-to-school raffle was a great success. More than 30 people won a prize and we raised over £1,000. Thanks to everyone who took the time to buy the tickets and take part and thanks to Amanda for organising. A list of winners can be seen on the PTA section of the school website
Covenant Scheme
We have had a great start to the covenant scheme. People have set up direct debits and more than £500 has been donated in one off gifts varying from £20 to £100. The great thing about donating via the PTA is that for every £1 you donate we get an extra 25p from the government. This means that the £500 becomes £625. You can make a donation either as a one-off payment or set up a direct debit. Every amount is gratefully received and nothing is too small. A monthly direct debit of £5 would be great and £10 would be amazing. Please click here to access the letter or alternatively follow the link below.
