speedy completion with deviations from the standard.

• Example: – Task completed with 5 out of 6 standards complete in 30

seconds– Task completed with 6 out of 6 standards complete in 31

seconds– 31 seconds is the fastest time for the event completed to

standard

Cavalry Skills Written Test

TASK: Conduct a Cavalry Knowledge Test as a Scout Squad

CONDITIONS: In a classroom setting, a Scout Squad will be given a map,

number 2 pencil, and test booklet.

STANDARDS: You will have one hour to work together as a Scout Squad to

answer 70 multiple choice questions correctly. Any questions not answered

correctly or left blank will be counted as wrong at the completion of the testing

hour. To receive credit for your answer you must circle the correct answer in

your test booklet. You can use no outside materials, the only authorized

materials to be used is what has been provided to you by the event OIC and

your personal protractor.

TASK: Adjust Indirect Fire (061-283-6003)

CONDITIONS: In teams of two; given a pair of binoculars, a simulated compass, map markers, a coordinate scale, a map of the target area, a target to engage within the area, and grid location of friendly troops.

STANDARDS: Determine the target location to within 250 meters of its actual location. Transmit the initial call for fire within three minutes. Send adjustments within 45 seconds after each round impacts. Enter the fire-for-effect phase using no more than six rounds (initial round plus five for adjustment). Fire for effect within 50 meters of the target using successive bracketing procedures (or creeping fire if danger close).

TASK: Conduct Overwatch

CONDITIONS: Given an operations order with displacement criteria, an

observation post (OP) on a live fire range, assigned weapons with

ammunition, optics, communications equipment. Scout Squads observe,

report, and react to enemy contact as required.

STANDARDS: Scout Squads tactically occupy OP, observe and report on

assigned Named Area of Interest, react to contact as required, break contact

when displacement criteria is met, and react to casualties as required. Squads

are ranked and awarded overall weighted points based on their Troop Leading

Procedures, reporting, the accuracy of their direct fires, accuracy of their call

for fire in support of their break contact, ability to appropriately treat a casualty,

and their ability to tactically displace.

TASK: Vehicle Identification

CONDITIONS: Given a sketch and squad equipment, identify the nomenclature and location of all 10 vehicles located in the designated area without going forward of the OP position.

STANDARDS: As a team, determine and identify the nomenclature of all 10 vehicles located in the designated area within 5 minutes or less.

TASK: Execute Obstacle Course

CONDITIONS: Participating Scout Squads will execute an obstacle course in

ACU (or service equivalent) and boots. Given a planned route and a number of

obstacles to complete. A walkthrough demonstration will occur prior to

execution.

STANDARDS: All squad members complete all obstacles to standard. Time

will serve as the tie breaker. Penalties will be assessed for skipping an obstacle

or failure to properly negotiate an obstacle.

Obstacle Course

TASK: Conduct an unknown distance run

CONDITIONS: Given an unknown route and distance of no more than four

miles, Scout Squads run in Army Combat Uniform with patrol cap, load

bearing equipment (FLC, TAP), and personal weapon. Upon completion of

the run, the Scout Squads will complete a 10 question written exam

designed to test their observation and memory skills.

STANDARDS: Scout Squads complete the run and exam together as a unit.

The Squad run time is stopped when the last member of the Squad crosses

the finish line. Squads are ranked and awarded overall weighted points based

on the run time as adjusted by the written exam score.

Reconnaissance Run

Final Charge

TASK: Conduct physically oriented culminating team event

CONDITIONS: Given a 2.5 mile run route, Brave Rifles Field, all necessary equipment for

the Scout Squad to complete seven common 19D10 tasks.

STANDARDS: Scout Squads will be given a FRAGORD at Camp Cornett prior to the

execution of the event. The Squad leader will have no more than 10 minutes to task

organize his squad based upon instructions provided from the lane NCOIC in the

FRAGORD. Scout Squads must start and finish as a team wearing ACU (or service

equivalent), Rifle, load bearing equipment (FLC or TAP); teams will be placed on the

competition field based upon their rank at the completion of the run, before a team is

allowed to start the tasks on the field, all team members must be present. The first six

tasks are completed at an individual level, physical activities are performed prior to task

execution. Penalties are assessed for incorrect performance of the tasks, or failure to

complete the task in the allotted time. The event is executed as a relay race, with the 7th

and final task being executed as a Squad. Squads are ranked and awarded overall

weighted points based on their course completion time.

TASK: Conduct a day/night Land Navigation

CONDITIONS: Given a Land Navigation course with 9 possible points, an

RSLC Special Land Nav map, a protractor, a lensatic compass, and NVG’s,

Scout Squads plan routes and navigate dismounted to 4 points.

STANDARDS: Scout Squads locate 4 total points within 6 hours under limited

visibility conditions without the aid of any electronic or GPS devices, without

using any existing roads, and without using any visible light. Squads will

complete the course as a team. Squads are ranked and awarded overall

weighted points based on their course completion time.

TASK: React to chemical agent

CONDITIONS: Given a FRAGORD highlighting chemical risk, appropriate

protective gear, individual decontamination capability, and GTA 03-06-008

(reporting) Squads encounter and react to a chemical casualty

STANDARDS: Squads don protective gear within 8 minutes IAW SMCT1 031-

COM-1035, conduct personal decontamination IAW SMCT1 031-COM-1013,

and report to higher headquarters with CBRN Report IAW SMCT2 031-503-

1005. Squads are ranked and awarded overall weighted points based on task

execution to standard and overall time to send reports higher.

TASK: Evaluate and Treat a Casualty / Evacuate a Casualty

CONDITIONS: Given a casualty (simulator mannequin) with urgent

wounds, in a non-chemical environment, Squads assess, stabilize, and

evacuate the wounded Soldier utilizing rotary wing aircraft.

STANDARDS: Squads will assess the casualty in the proper sequence.

Once the wound is identified, utilize on-hand medical supplies to bandage

the wound, prepare the casualty for evacuation. Squads will use the NATO

9-line MEDEVAC to request rotary wing aircraft. Once the aircraft is

confirmed, Scouts will establish a hasty landing zone for casualty transfer.

TASK: Conduct Dismounted Route Reconnaissance

CONDITIONS: Given a Tactical Environment with threat forces present, a

mission context, a time limit, optics, radio communication equipment,

weapons, and CCIR, Scout Squads conduct Route Reconnaissance IAW STP

17-19D3-SM task 171-123-1300 to provide higher headquarters with

information and situational awareness.

STANDARDS: Scout Squad plans mission, identifies all threat activity in the

area, reports all information in proper format IAW ATP 3-20.98, APNDX A,

and produces a route overlay IAW STP 17-D3-SM task 052-196-3065.

Squads are ranked and awarded overall weighted points based on the

accuracy of their reporting and the completeness of their route overlay.

TASK: Conduct Dismounted Area Reconnaissance

CONDITIONS: Given a tactical environment with threat forces present, a

mission context, a time limit, optics, radio communication equipment,

weapons, and Commander’s Critical Information Requirement (CCIR), Scout

Squads conduct Area Reconnaissance IAW STP 17-19D3-SM task 171-123-

1301 to provide higher headquarters with information and situational

awareness.

STANDARDS: Scout Squad plans mission, identifies all threat activity in the

area, reports all information in proper format IAW ATP 3-20.98, APDX A, and

exfiltrates to assigned pick-up point within the allotted time, all without being

compromised. Squads are ranked and awarded overall weighted points based

on the accuracy of their reporting and remaining uncompromised.

TASK: Establish an Observation Post and report enemy activity

CONDITIONS: Given a tactical environment, communications equipment

and optics, Squads establish Observation Post IAW STP 17-19D3-SM task

171-121-3037 during hours of darkness without being compromised and

reports all enemy activity within their assigned NAI.

STANDARDS: Scout Squad conducts appropriate planning, moves

dismounted to, and occupies OP without being compromised in order to

report enemy activity over a six hour period. Squads are ranked and

awarded overall weighted points based on their ability to establish the OP

without being compromised and the accuracy of their reporting.

TASK: Engage targets with personal weapons

CONDITIONS: Given a range, physically exerting events, ammunition, and

personal weapons

STANDARDS: Under physically stressful conditions, competitors will

engage targets with their personal weapons at the direction of the Range

OIC and lane safeties. Points are awarded for number of targets

successfully engaged with the competitors personal weapons and

completion of the course in the shortest time.

TASK: Program an AN/PRC 119 or AN/PRC 119A, and operate (send spot

report).

CONDITIONS: Given an AN/PRC 119 or AN/PRC 119A, an SOI, and a

requirement to prepare the radio for operation, program, and send a spot

report

STANDARDS: Load the SINCGARS radio with the required single-channel

frequency(ies), and conduct a doctrinal radio check within five minutes IAW

TM 11-5820-890-10 8.

TASK: Program a Harris AN/PRC 150, operate (request confirmation code

word and send spot report).

CONDITIONS: Given an Harris AN/PRC 150 , SKL and scenario to request

from the distant end

STANDARDS: Assemble an Harris AN/PRC 150, program and send the

request via spot report. Report the confirmation code word from the distant

end. Competitors will have three separate antennas to choose from. Each

antenna represents the ability to communicate at increasingly greater

distances. Points are awarded for proper assembly, and completing a

doctrinal radio check with the distant end. NOTE: points are awarded for

the radio check based upon the distance to the distant end.
