THE FILM – “ECSTASY”

ECSTASY is a dark romantic comedy, based on the controversial book, "Ecstasy", by Irvine Welsh. "Ecstasy", has been translated into 20 languages and was a number one bestseller in over 20 countries. Mr. Welsh’s first book, "Trainspotting", published in 1993, (and voted by Waterstone, Europe’s largest bookstore chain, as one of the Ten Best Books of the Century), sold over 1 million copies in the UK alone, and has its own Cinematic Cinderella success story. The film, produced on a budget of USD$3.5 Million, grossed over USD$72 Million worldwide, making it the most profitable film in 1996.

Ecstasy is a dark romantic comedy. The story arc is the transformation from the love of Ecstasy to the ecstasy of Love. The final revelation is, “It all comes from within.”

Lloyd, the anti-hero, the fallen hero and main protagonist, is out of control with drugs and left unchecked, he must fulfill his “karmic” debt with Solo. Lloyd represents a young man with a, “Peter Pan” complex, who refuses to grow and face his harsh reality. Lloyd wants to change, but first must deal with Solo and wake up in the, “Hell”, he has created.

He falls in love with Heather, who changes his life and causes him to come to terms with drugs.

Ecstasy is a Canada/UK Co-production.

THE CAST

The cast for Ecstasy includes: Erica Durance (from TV Hit Smallville) as Marie; Richard E Grant (from Gosford Park, Withnail and I, Dracula) as Father Brian, the priest who questions his faith and joins the young people at a dance in the basement of his church; Billy Boyd (from Lord of the Rings, The Flying Scotsman and Master and Commander) as Woodsy, who after consuming too much drugs ends up in the hospital; Bill Paterson (From the hit TV show Sea of Souls as well as films including: The Killing Fields, Miss Potter and Kingdom of Heaven) as Lloyd’s father Jim Buist; And most importantly Adam Sinclair (who plays the star of the upcoming TV mini-series The Summit, as well as the films leads in the films To End All Wars, Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj, Nina's Heavenly Delights and a number of TV series Mile High, As If, and Painkiller Jane) as our lead, Lloyd, the anti-hero. In addition, we have some of the best actors in Scotland and the entire UK as our supporting cast: Stephen Campbell Moore (from the award-winning play and film, The History Boys, starring alongside Jason Statham in the The Bank Job, and the upcoming films The Blackening, Burlesque Fairytales as well as leads in Amazing Grace, Normal for Norfolk, A Good Woman and Bright Young Things); Colin McCredie, (the nerd in Shallow Grave as well as the hit TV show Taggart); Gary Lewis (the father from the film Billy Elliot).
