Giáo xứ xin mời gọi tất cả mọi người đến cùng hoan hỉ hiệp thông trong việc thờ phượng Chúa và phục vụ tha nhân.
Drive Out Evil
In the Old Testament Joshua led the Israelites across the Jordan River
into the Promised Land. However, the land was occupied by people of
other nations. Those inhabiting the land had to be driven out or de-
stroyed. God did not allow for the possibility of the foreign nations living
alongside the Israelites.
A primary reason for this was God did not want the religious and cultural
practices of those living in Canaan to seep into the daily lives and the
minds of His Chosen People. We need only to look back into the time
when they were enslaved in Egypt. The Hebrews lost not only their free-
dom; they were losing their identity as God’s chose people. They were beginning to adopt some of the religious and cultural practices of Egypt.
The 40 years spent in the wilderness before entering the Promised Land
was a time of purification, a time in which God had to drive out of their
hearts the desire to return to Egypt.
Jesus begins His ministry in Galilee. He does so by curing a demoniac in
the synagogue in Capernaum. This sets the stage for a ministry of heal-
ing, driving out demons and teaching. As we look ahead to the coming of
Lent we should look within ourselves and determine what we need Jesus
to do for us. Where do we need healing? Maybe we are carrying some
wounds to our hearts. Perhaps the words or actions of others have pierced
our flesh, leaving agonizing wounds of pain and suffering. Maybe we are
possessed by a legion of doubts, fears and anxieties that enslave us.
Thereby we are kept from living in freedom. Are we lacking in the wis-
dom of God? Do we know what He has promised us and how we must
cooperate with Him for our salvation?
Now is the time to ask Jesus to heal us. Now is the time to ask Jesus to
drive out the demons that plague us. Now is the time to ask Jesus to teach
us so we may come to an understanding of God’s wisdom. Now is the time to ask Jesus to show us how to apply God’s wisdom in our lives in a manner that is pleasing to Him. The time for our fulfillment is here.

The Moms and Dads Club has always been a vital and vibrant min-
istry here at St. Cletus, now Our Lady of Grace. The Moms and
Dads are one of the longest continuing organizations in the par-
ish. Their activities have brought many parishioners and non-
parishioner together to enjoy good fellowship and share a hearty
meal through their monthly card parties. The parish extends its
sincere thanks and appreciation of the $600 gift given to the
parish by the Moms and Dads Club at Christmas. May the Lord
continue to bless this wonderful group of parishioners.

Words on the Word Jan. 28, 2018 – Dispelling Demons
All of us, in one form or another, have “demons” that need to be dis-
pelled. They may be demons of sinfulness. Or demons of addiction. Or
of depression. Or of some other habit or behavior that needs to be
ended. One of the more high-profile legal cases to dominate headlines
over the last year has concerned the actions of a local physician who
was working with prominent gymnasts for many years.
As most who have followed the story are aware, the physician has
been accused by dozens of former patients of horrible assaults that
took place while he was supposed to have been treating them for vari-
ous physical ailments. A few weeks ago, the story became especially
prominent when several of his victims had the opportunity to address
him in court prior to his sentence being handed down.
One can only hope that this opportunity to directly address the perpe-
trator of so many assaults served, in a way, to help dispel the demons
with which the victims and their families have been faced in the after-
math of the incidents. Likewise, we pray that, going forward, the vari-
ous communities involved will also be able to begin to exorcise the
demons associated with these terrible actions.
None of which is to say there will not continue to be pain for many,
many years to come for everyone involved.
But, God willing, the Holy Spirit will provide strength and healing for all,
enabling them to pick up the pieces and move forward.
Today’s gospel passage from St. Mark describes Jesus’ ability to provide
such healing, when he orders an unclean spirit out of a man.
“All were amazed and asked one another, ‘What is this? A new teach-
ing with authority,’” St. Mark writes. “’He commands even the unclean
spirits and they obey him.’”

Dear Our Lady of Grace Parish,
Thank you for including Mary’s Children Family Center in your Giving Tree this year. We are extremely
thankful with how many gifts your church blessed our organization with. We appreciate all of your time and
hard work that your committee has done.
Mary’s Children Family Center was created for one reason – to improve functional independence and enhance
the quality of life for persons overcoming brain injuries within our community. Generous gifts from donors
like you provide the financial and moral support needed to continue our mission. We received craft supplies,
items for the personal care of our students, and gift cards to purchase food, supplies and other necessary items
to keep Mary’s Children running.
Mary’s Children Family Center cannot thank you and your church enough for your help this year. We would
like to invite you to come and tour our Center, we would be more than happy to arrange an appointment. If
you should hear of anyone who would like to share a talent with our students, whether it is musical, artsy,
cooking or reading, we would be most receptive.
May God bless your New Year with health and peace.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Wichmann and the staff and students at Mary’s Children Family Center

Every child ‘a precious gift from God,’ Trump tells March for Life by Catholic News Service • January 19, 2018
WASHINGTON — In remarks broadcast to the March for Life from the White House Rose Garden, President Donald Trump said
that his administration “will always defend the very first right in the Declaration of Independence, and that is the right to life.”He
invoked the theme of this year’s march, “Love Saves Lives,” and praised the crowd as being very special and “such great citizens
gathered in our nation’s capital from many places for one beautiful cause” — celebrating and cherishing life.“Every unborn child is a
precious gift from God,” he said, his remarks interrupted several times by applause from the crowd gathered on the National Mall.
He praised the pro-lifers for having “such big hearts and tireless devotion to make sure parents have the support they need to choose
life.”“You’re living witnesses of this year’s March for Life theme, ‘Love Saves Lives,'” His remarks were broadcast to the crowd
live via satellite to a Jumbotron above the speakers’ stage, a first for any U.S. president, according to March for Life.During their
tenure in office, President Ronald Reagan, President George H.W. Bush and President George W. Bush all addressed the march via
telephone or a radio hookup from the Oval Office, with their remarks broadcast to the crowd.
Trump spoke with a crowd surrounding him in the Rose Garden, including 20 students from the University of Mary in Bismarck,
North Dakota. One of those standing next to the president was a Marianne Donadio, a top official with Room at the Inn, a nationally
accredited Catholic ministry based in North Carolina that serves homeless, pregnant women and single mothers with children. Vice
President Mike Pence, who addressed last year’s March for Life in person at Trump’s request, introduced the president as the “most
pro-life president in American history,” for among other things issuing an executive memorandum shortly after his inauguration to
reinstate the “Mexico City Policy.” The policy bans all foreign nongovernmental organizations receiving U.S. funds from perform-
ing or promoting abortion as a method of family planning in other countries.
Trump also has nominated pro-life judges to fill several court vacancies and a day before the March for Life the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services announced formation of a new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division in the HHS Office for Civil
Rights. Its aim is to protect the conscience rights of doctors and other health care workers who do not want to perform procedures
they consider morally objectionable. For the first time in a recent memory, the weather in Washington was more than tolerable for
March for Life participants as they gathered on the National Mall to mark the anniversary of the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision
legalizing abortion. The sun was shining and the blue sky was cloudless. By the time the speeches ended and the march to the Su-
preme Court started, the temperature had reached 50 degrees. Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life, opened the rally by call-
ing on everyone in the crowd to text the word “March” to 7305 and to show their commitment to ending abortion and join their
voices in calling on Congress to defund Planned Parenthood. “Do you agree that’s important?” she asked the crowd. “Yes!” they
shouted. March for Life, she said, is about educating people about abortion and mobilizing to end it and to love all those women and
families who are facing a troubled pregnancy and other needs. ‘Love Saves Lives’ is this year’s theme,” she added. “Love and sacri-
fice go hand in hand It is not easy. No one ever said it was, but it is the right choice … the self-sacrificial option.”
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, was among several others who addressed the crowd. “Thank God for giving us a pro-life
president in the White House,” the Catholic congressman said. “Your energy is so infectious,” he told the crowd, praising them for
being “the vigor and enthusiasm of the pro-life movement.” Seeing so many young people “is so inspiring because it tells us this a
movement on the rise,” he said. “Why is the pro-life movement on the rise? Because truth is on our side. Life begins at conception.
Science is on our side.” Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Washington, gave an emotional speech about the troubled pregnancy she
faced about four years ago. She and her husband, Dan, were told their unborn child had severe defects, that the baby’s kidneys would
never develop and the lungs were undeveloped because of a rare condition. Abortion was their only option, they were told. Today,
that baby is 4-year-old Abigail. She and her younger brother and their father stood on the stage with the congresswoman. “Dan and I
prayer and we cried (at the news of their unborn child’s condition) … and in that devastation we saw hope. What if God would do a
miracle? What if a doctor was willing to try something new? Like saline infusions to mimic amniotic fluid so kidneys could de-
velop?” she recalled. With “true divine intervention and some very courageous doctors willing to take a risk we get to experience our
daughter, Abigail,” Herrera Beutler said. She is a very “healthy, happy 4-year-old big sister who some day is going to be ‘the boss of
mommy’s work,'” she said.
Herrera Beutler asked the crowd to imagine that 45 years of legal abortion had not existed and that 60 million babies had not been
lost to abortion, and if out of those people had come those who could cure cancer and correct all manner of disabling conditions,
including those that exist in utero, and eradicate poverty. “What richness we would we get to see instead of two generations miss-
ing,” she added. Another Catholic member of Congress and longtime pro-life advocate, Rep. Chris Smith, R-New Jersey, described
the last 45 years of legal abortion as Orwellian.
“Every one of you here today” and millions of others throughout the country and world, he said, “are an integral part of the greatest
human rights struggle on earth. Because we pray, because we fast, we will win. Babies will be protected.”
