Manager/Coaches:

Dick Schofield is in his first season with the Dragons and third year as a manager in the Reds organization. He served as the manager of the Billings Mustangs in 2014-’15, leading the team to the Pioneer League title in 2014 and a playoff berth in ’15. As a player, Schofield spent 14 years as a player in the Major Leagues as a shortstop from 1983-1996, leading his league in fielding percentage four times. His MLB debut came with the California Angels at the age of 20 in 1983 and he remained with the club for 10 seasons. He also played for the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers before returning to the Angels to close out his big league career. He was known as one of baseball's best bunters, finishing in the top 10 in sacrifices seven times. Schofield finished 22nd in the American League Most Valuable Player voting in 1986 with the Angels as the club advanced to the A.L. Championship Series. Schofield was the Angels first round draft pick and the third overall selection in the draft in 1981. He is part of a third-generation Major League family, one of only five known in baseball history. His father, Dick (Ducky) Schofield, and nephew, Jayson Werth, have also enjoyed long Major League careers. He is a native of Springfield, Missouri who now makes his home in St. Louis. Pitching coach Derrin Ebert joins the Dragons as pitching coach in 2016. Ebert spent the last two seasons as the pitching coach with the Billings Mustangs. Billings pitchers led the Pioneer League in ERA both seasons. Ebert pitched professionally from 1994- 2005, appearing briefly in the Major Leagues with the Atlanta Braves in 1999. He also pitched in the Royals, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Brewers, and Red Sox organizations. Hitting coach Luis Bolivar is in his third season with the Dragons and fourth year as a minor league coach with the Reds. He played for the Dragons in 2003-’04, representing the club in the Midwest League All-Star Game in 2004. Bolivar played professionally for nine seasons from 2002-2010. Catching coach Corky Miller is in his second year as a coach with the Dragons in 2016 after a 17-year professional playing career that included parts of 11 seasons in the Major Leagues. He will be with the Dragons for most home games and selected road games. He will also serve as a roving catching instructor with other Reds affiliates.

The Dragons MVP Program The Dragons expanded elementary school MVP Program reaches five counties and more than 1,100 classrooms. Schools in Montgomery, Greene, Clark, Miami and Warren counties are part of the program that includes 1,116 fourth and fifth grade classrooms in 183 schools over 48 school districts. About 34,000 children will participate. The program is in its 11th year in 2016. Due to the support of the participating sponsors, the program is completely free of charge to the schools. How does the Dragons School MVP Program work? The teacher in each of the 1,116 classrooms over the five-county area will select five MVP’s based on the teacher’s judgment of performance, effort, citizenship, and improvement. The five MVPs selected by their teacher in each classroom will get four tickets to a Dragons game, tickets to a special Field Day event at the stadium during the season, an MVP certificate and a Dragons MVP hat. Dragons players and mascots visit selected classrooms over the course of the season. Additionally, 12 Dragons games during the season are designated as “MVP Game Nights.” On those nights, one MVP gets to throw out the ceremonial first pitch to the game, another does an on-air interview during the Dragons game broadcast on Fox Sports 980, and another participates in an entertainment skit during the Dragons game. Two times each season, all classroom MVP’s are invited to attend the Dragons MVP Field Day at Fifth Third Field and interact with Dragons players. The Dragons MVP Program presented by Bob Evans is also made possible by the generous support of Sinclair Community College, WDTN TV and Dayton’s CW Television. Dragons Kids Club is Back For the fourth year in a row, young Dragons fans can join the Frisch’s Dragons Kids Club. For just $15, members receive four Dragons tickets, a Dragons t-shirt, a Dragons hat, a Dragons backpack, a free kids meal at Frisch’s Big Boy, and an invite to an exclusive Kids Club Movie Night.
