■ Prescription drug costs are expected to rise by >18% this year in the US, reports Marketletter.According to the 2000 Segal Health Plan Cost TrendSurvey, these drug cost increases will contributesubstantially to increased total health plan costs thisyear. Prescription drug claim expenses may reach 15%of active health plan costs and > 40% of retiree plancosts by 2001, predicts the report. The survey notesthat over the next few years managed-care plans willhave difficulty controlling costs in the way that theyhave been able to during the last six years.US Rx drug costs will rise 18%-plus this year.
