According to the 2000 Segal Health Plan Cost Trend Survey, these drug cost increases will contribute substantially to increased total health plan costs this year. Prescription drug claim expenses may reach 15% of active health plan costs and > 40% of retiree plan costs by 2001, predicts the report. The survey notes that over the next few years managed-care plans will have difficulty controlling costs in the way that they have been able to during the last six years.
