Chart Verbiage• 1. Closed syllable- A vowel in a closed syllable is short, code it with a
breve.• 2. Open syllable- A vowel in an open, unaccented syllable is long, code it
with a macron.• Open unaccented syllable-
a in an open, unaccented syllable says (u) code it with a tittle.i says (i) code it with a brevee, o, and u are half long, code them with a modified macron.
Verbiage continued• 3. Vowel team- underline digraphs and arc diphthongs• 4. Vowel consonant e- The vowel will be long, code it with a
macron, the e will be silent, cross it out.• 5. Final, Stable Syllable- Bracket the final, stable syllable.
Accent the syllable before it.• 6. R controlled syllable- Arc the vowel r combination.
