Position Summary: Supervisesall phases of district line work,assuring quality and continuity ofservice. Under Vice President ofOperations, ensures that crewsare provided with proper equip-ment, training, and tools to per-form their jobs safely and effect-ively. Some overtime requiredand called out for major outages.

Reporting Relationships: Re-ports to: Vice President of Oper-ations Directs: Service, ConstructionForeman and associated Crews

Internal Relationships: DistrictManager, Vice President of En-gineering, Other District Super-visors, and Other Employees

External Relationships: Mem-bers, Contractors, and GeneralPublic

Responsibilities, Authorities,and Essential Functions of theJob: Responsible for Construc-tion and Maintenance of theelectric system. Drafts daily andweekly work schedules. En-sures work performed by crewsis done safely, effectively, andstandards are met. Communic-ates with members about jobscheduling and progress. Re-sponsible for maintaining propersystem voltage, balance andminimal line loss. Survey, stake,and document line constructionand changes. Determines loadrequirements to ensure qualityservice. Secures right-of-wayeasements, contracts, and per-mits as required. Investigatesconsumer service complaintsand outage reports. Assists indevelopment of departmentalbudget and work plan prepara-tion. Ensures crews adhere tosafety rules and regulations. Re-views staking sheets, service or-ders, connects, disconnects,etc., and other paperwork as re-quired, and reviews paperworkcompleted by crew. Respons-ible for proper operation of sys-tem sectionalizing equipmentand Substations, recommendsadditions/changes for sectional-izing and substation mainten-ance; including special equip-ment such as metering, regulat-ors, capacitors, sectionalizers.Helps develop long-range main-tenance plans in terms of pro-grams, personnel, facilities,equipment, and supplies, opera-tions, maintenance, and serviceof BCEC. Stimulates high stand-ard of morale among depart-ment employees by the creationand use of team spirit and enthu-siasm throughout the depart-ment and by determining theemployees’ attitudes on organiz-ation goals. Encourage sugges-tions, constructive criticisms, andexpressions of viewpoints fromemployees. Regular attendanceduring normal business hours.

Job Requirements(Experience, Knowledge, andAbilities and Skills):

Training and Experience: Tenyears of related work experi-ence and training required andprevious position of Crew Fore-man.

Knowledge: Thorough know-ledge and understanding of allphases of construction, mainten-ance, and line equipment. Mustbe familiar with the considerablehazards of electric shock, elec-tric flash, falls, falling objects,and traffic. Working knowledgeof the Cooperative’s transmis-sion and distribution system andof electrical line equipment to bemaintained. Knowledge of linework – how lines feed, how toback feed lines, etc. Must knowthe overall service area of thecooperative well. Must knowRUS specifications and NESCcodes concerning power lines.Has current knowledge of irriga-tion, industrial and commercialload requirements. Understandconstruction drawings, systemmaps, manuals, and stakingsheets. Knowledge of Cooperat-ive’s tariff, policies, rules, pro-cedures and practices. Must beable to understand and use elec-tronic spreadsheets, word pro-cessing and otherprograms/equipment, includingcomputer programs, provided bythe employer now or in the fu-ture.

Abilities and Skills: Above aver-age problem solving andtroubleshooting abilities neces-sary to locate line trouble and re-commend to members the bestpossible electric service. Experi-ence in performing related workfrom bucket trucks and from thetops of poles. UnderstandNESC, NEC, and has the abilityto construct Cooperative’s distri-bution system to meet thesecodes. Must be able to make im-mediate decisions in situationsthat are dangerous to a cowork-er or the public anytime a prob-lem arises. The ability to com-municate effectively with cooper-ative members, employees, andvendors. Should be able to pro-mote continuous good memberand public relations. On call 24hours a day – helps answerphones in emergency situations.Has and maintains a driver’s li-cense with a good driving re-cord and be insurable under thestandard rate of the current carri-er. Depth/distance visual abilityand eye-hand coordination ne-cessary. Must pass a physicalexam initially, and drug/con-trolled substance screening testsrandomly. Can be counted on tomeet goals successfully; is con-sistently a quality performer.

Education Requirements: Highschool diploma or equivalent toprovide fundamental technicalknowledge.
