Cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma

TODAY’S GOSPEL

John 9:1, 6-7

As Jesus passed by he saw a man blind from birth. He spat on the

ground and made clay with the saliva, and

smeared the clay on his eyes, and said to him,

“Go wash in the Pool of Siloam” — which

means Sent —. So he went and washed, and came back able to see.

FR. ADRIAN’S CORNER

I would like to ask for your prayers today and during the week for some people in our parish who are prepar-ing for sacraments. We have a retreat coming up for young people ge ng ready for Confirma on in June. They will be at Green Oaks Ranch in Vista on April 5 and 6. A great amount of prepara on has gone into this re-treat, and so again I want to thank our wonderful RE Teachers and Youth Leaders for their commitment and dedica on. Vince Nims who works with the Franciscan School of Theology will lead some reflec ons during the retreat and there will be Mass as well as the Sacrament of Reconcilia on during the course of the weekend. Another group that has asked for your prayers are those who are preparing for Bap sm and Confirma on at the Easter Vigil. They will be joined by others who will receive First Eucharist and Confirma on and become full members of the Church during the same liturgy. For many of them it has been a long road with ups and downs along the way. Thankfully, they have had the friendship and guidance of good mentors and teachers in the RCIA and RE Programs and they are ready for the big step on Holy Saturday Night. I have no ced in the last number of weeks that people have been calling us to anoint the sick and dying, o en at the last minute. I had an unfortunate situa on a few weeks ago when I found myself with five sick calls, all of them urgent, and was not able to make it in me to the last person who passed away before I arrived at her home. The Sacrament is the Anoin ng of the Sick and is for anyone who is unwell, infirm or elderly. It is no long-er Extreme Unc on as we understood it in former mes. Please don’t wait ll the last minute to have us come and anoint your loved ones – call us and we will come with Holy Communion and the Holy Oils, but don’t wait ll the person is in a coma or in the last stages of life before you contact us. Naturally, some people will become gravely ill unexpectedly and of course we are always ready to a end to them and to be with them and their loved ones. Most of all though we priests wish you to know that we do our utmost to care for the sick and that we depend on your co-opera on so that our most vulnera-ble sisters and brothers may have the comfort and grace of the sacraments when they need them most. The Parish Reconcilia on Services with Confession are coming up soon. Lent is a good me to go to confession and receive the sacrament of the Lord’s mercy. Our first Sacrament of Reconcilia on Service is on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 pm and the other on Saturday, April 12 at 10:00 am. Both are in the Serra Center. Friars from the

Mission and Parish as well as priests from neighboring parishes will be on hand to hear confessions. Bring your young people and your children, and as a parish family let us celebrate the forgiveness and mercy of God in the Sacrament of Reconcilia on. I don’t know about you but I definitely need it – confession keeps me on track and honest in my rela onship with God and with my fellow human beings. I thank God for it! The grace of the Sac-rament of Reconcilia on is a beau ful thing. Our Young Adult Program is up and running on Thurs-days at 7:00 p.m. in the Mission. Trying to get them out of the building at the end of the evening is the problem!! They have some food together and then just hang out and chat – I’m not there so I can’t say much more. But there is a lot of laughter and talking going on and every-one seems to be having a great me. If you are interest-ed just show up on Thursday, bring a friend. Go through the big gate into the Mission that is between the Wel-come Center and the Mission Gi Shop and make a right to the Peyri Room…follow the noise! Marcus Cabrera is the organizer and he will give you a big welcome. The Parish Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi in October is totally full. We have 47 people traveling. So as not to disappoint those who are on the wai ng list and others who have shown some interest we are running another in 2015, from the 6 – 16 April. It will be the same pil-grimage to the same places. So…you have a year to get ready. Contact Wendy Brophy at 858-756-4174 x1702 or [email protected], if you are interested and get your name on her list. On this Laetare (Rejoicing) Sunday the liturgy tells: Re-joice, O Jerusalem: and come together all you that love her: rejoice with joy, you that have been in sorrow: that you may exult, and be filled from the breasts of your con-sola on. And the Psalm: I rejoiced when they said to me: "We shall go into God's House!" This joy comes from faith in God, who in Jesus, has shown us His face and revealed His truth to our hearts. Wishing you joy in the week ahead. Fr. Adrian.

CARIDAD

—San Vicente Ferrer
